beverly was the man in the first half, and not just shooting the ball. He made some great passes and was playing some good d. He still didn't dribble to break the press though (he passed it to daniels or markell when they were pressing). For a moment I wasn't worrying about a PG for next year, but it was only for a moment. Felt really good when he was hitting his shots, man what a different season this would be if he played like this in other games.

I bet some of you were shitting when andree, dixon, and beverly were in together. They didn't blow the lead!

Great win. Even better that clemson lost.

One day I will no longer feel nervous when we are up by 15+, but today is not that day.

Post game the announcers were gushing over Markell. Maybe I am spoiled, but it seemed to me that he kept getting stopped in the lane and making really risky passes (some that led to turnovers). Hoping he carries us for a long run in the ACC tourney.

I enjoyed dixon getting his rebounds and making shots. When he was going 1-on-1, it was no, no, no, no...yes!

I think you are being sarcastic, but saw on Twitterworld Statefan was upset about this. Bates doesn't rebound for shit (4.0 per game!) and DD is not one of the five best defenders in the league.

I don’t watch enough of the rest of the acc to pretend to know if anybody from State got robbed. But yeah it feels like Bates has a strong case for all defensive team. And Daniels and Funderburk seem way better than, say, Steffon Mitchell who was honorable mention.

I wasn't being sarcastic. I think Daniels should have at least gotten honorable mention all-acc with the way he played in conference games. Not arguing he should be on the all-defensive team (although he was a better defender than Jones this year)

And Bates led the conference in blocks. As a freshman. That should be enough to get on the all-defensive team

Blocked shots aren't always good defensive plays. Bates isn't a good one one one defender and gave up a lot of rebounds because he sold out for blocks on other guys. Also, blocking shots out of bounds as a second defender isn't always the best play. especially if you could have just gotten the rebound or blocked it inbounds.

Yes, instead of blocking shots as a help defender Bates should have let them attempt the shot. Because most of his blocks were of guys who had beaten their man initially, do they definitely wouldn't make what would then become an uncontested shot at the rim.

Manny averages 2.9 blocks per game. Per https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/awards/acc-all-defense.html, no one (since 99-00 season) has averaged at least 2.9 blocks but 4 rebounds or less and made the all-defense team.

Closest comparisons I could find that made the team are:
- Tyrelle Blair '08 - 3.4 blocks/4.8 rebounds
- Anas Mahmoud '18 - 2.9/5.0
- BeeJay Anya '15 - 2.5/4.3 (lol)

Love Anya, but he was a non-factor his senior year, which really clouded my memory of him. Dude also won sixth man of the year in 2015!

Bates also only plays 18 minutes a game. He's averaging 8.6 per 40 minutes, DJ is averaging 9.4 -- not a huge disparity.

Bates is averaging 6.3 blocks per 40. The next closest guy is James Bank at 3.3 per 40

I agree blocking shots hurts rebounding somewhat. But having an elite shotblocking threat in the post changes the whole mindset of the other team when they drive the lane.

Wouldn't be surprised if Manny was punished for playing so much less. Hard to be all defense from the bench. His foul rate in conf play was also really high.

Their foul rates are awful too. Bates gives up more uncontested layups than he prevents. He's only a freshman so hopefully he can improve his footwork and become a good defender but right now he's a poor defender who is a good shot blocker.
