Just reading some quotes from the Braves it seems they have all but conceded that it's Wild Card or bust at this point. Gotta think they won't win EVERY series from the Mets and we are playing some damn good ball right now. If we can survive these next 12 games 7-5 or better than that is all she wrote for the division...

Like I've been saying throughout this thread, the Braves need to focus on the wild card and not worry about the Mets. It is almost impossible to overcome a 5.5 game lead this late in the season against a team with the lineup the Mets trot out.

I am starting to get pissed that the Braves had to play the hardest interleague schedule in the NL this year and teams like the Cubs, SD, LA, Rockies, the Phillies, etc. all had easier schedules especially since the Braves could lose the wild card by just a game or two. If maybe they had a couple of games against shithole teams like the As, Royals, etc instead of playing the Tigers, Indians, Red Sox, they'd be leading the wild card.

Also what the fuck is up with us running into hot teams. D-Backs this past weekend, Cubs a few weeks ago, Tigers when they were rolling, Red Sox when they were rolling, etc.

what exactly does that mean. its not like there's a different method to winning the wild card than the division. you just try to win games, and whatever happens, happens

I think what he means is this.. When we play the mets we should just roll over, but we should try to beat the Padres and Phillies. LoL

It means that the Braves do not have to get all desperate and try to worry about making up 5 games (ala the Cardinals this year) in the last 1.5 months of the season. Of course they need to make sure they keep winning, but one two game losing streak to the D-backs is not the end of the world.

On a different note, Chuck James will miss his start tonight with a "dead arm". More like "Chuck James will miss his start tonight because he has a girl's arm". Not good news because Jo Jo "14.50 ERA" Reyes will be filling in. Adam Dunn will probably hit three bombs tonight.

The Braves starting pitching outside of Smoltz/Huddy makes me

James is officially on the DL, but he'll miss only one more start. The Braves have got to have someone better than Reyes who can give them 4 innings. They keep running that kid out there and he keeps giving up 4 or 5 runs in 3 or less innings.

Mets are hot now and starting to walk away with the divison. I'm torn whether I should root for the Mess to beat the Padres tonight

^It's tough... But I am pulling for the Mets to take the Padres. That's our chance now... we've completely plundered our chances. We were 2.5 games out a week or so ago...

Why the hell do we suck so bad against the freaking Reds. We've now lost 4 out of the last five to that shithole AAA team.

Hey Ernie, mind posting the 3 year ERA+ averages again? I'd like to piss on them...

Also, what is Jo Jo Reyes' ERA+ this year?

I'm blaming AOL for not giving Leo Mazzone anything he wanted, which has led to the Braves pitching well to run dry.

Yes I realize that the Braves probably could not have kept Mazzone regardless because he wanted to coach with Perlazzo.

Good God the Reds play like the fucking Big Red Machine when they see the Braves. This team is set up so well for the playoffs with the Smoltz-Hudson one-two punch, but they'll never make it because of the joke that is their 3-4-5 starters.

Moylan has a rubber arm - they should give him a shot at starting.

dayum, Chipper with 5 RBI on the night so far. Ok serious question here. If the Braves make the playoffs will Bobby win Manager of the year? And will Chipper get MVP?

Serious question? Are you high? A lot of people think the Braves had more talent than the Mets until very recently (healthy Mets team). If anything, they've underperformed...

You can thank Marlon Anderson anytime now..

yeah i was wondering that, because the runner at 2nd was already standing there. one of them would've been automatically out i think

oh great, bob "i can't pitch without giving up 2 earned" wickman is on the hill

Nail on the head.

If Wickman's fatass could have covered first, the Braves might have won that game. Holy fuck the Braves suck ass against the Reds. 6 losses in 7 games in the past month or so. Way to blow the season against possibly the worst team in the NL outside of DC.

Time to show Roger McDowell the door. Other than Hudson pitching better this year and Moylan coming out of nowhere, the Braves have made zero progress in the pitching department and all of the young guys look like shit.

^^ oh come on... dont blame roger... blame cox for overusing the arms and scheurholz for acquiring guys who have never thrown 60+ IP in the bigs before..

designating big bob was probably overkill

oh well, i guess wickmania is over

[Edited on August 24, 2007 at 6:32 PM. Reason : apparently he was unwilling to pitch in the 7th or 8th, so i guess this makes sense ]
