PS3 will allow you to upgrade to 2.0.
Also, now I see why blu ray discs have a 50gb capacity....so they can fit 100 fucking previews on the disc before the feature movie starts. Just got 3:10 to Yuma and I've been watching the disc for almost 30 minutes and have yet to actually get to the Menu or the actual movie.
^^whine? he makes good points...i wouldn't call that whining.

Well i don't know if you consider trailers ads but i never said ads. They are all blu ray trailers for various movies. To me an ad would be for coke or some shit.
out of the blu ray movies i have pretty much the majority have a shit ton of trailers on them.
and these aren't like the "everything you knew about DVD just got a whole lot better..." trailers either.

I'm with El Nacho on this:
Quote : | "I really don't see downloads ever completely taking over physical media just because of people like me that have 400+ DVD collections. I just think there are too many people that want the actual discs to go along with their movies. Sure it's old fashioned, but I still think there's always gonna be a market for non-downloadable movies. At least for the next 20 years or so." |
And let's say a HD video download is 2 gigs. The average broadband connection is about 2 megabits, yielding a download rate of about 200 KBps. That'll still take three hours to download. Or maybe a half hour to download the first part and partly stream the rest. I'd much prefer to pop a physical disc I own into a blu-ray player and watch it straight away. Plus having the piece of mind of knowing that if my broadband connection goes down (which is infrequent, but a common enough problem), I can still watch it.1/10/2008 6:56:06 AM |

Uh, I've had Blu-ray's with trailers before, but the real question is why are you watching them? Just hit the skip scene button on the remote until you get to the menu. 1/10/2008 7:21:52 AM |

^ if you have all the packaging...go for it...say you don't have your receipt, and get store credit...also, rather than saying you don't want it or making it clear that you're up on the HDM scene, say it doesn't work with your TV or something so that there's no restocking fee
failing that, go buy another one and return the old (open) one on that receipt a day later with the same excuse (it'll be a bit more believable)...then, return the unopened one for store credit saying you paid cash (they'll take it back with minimal fuss if it's unopened) 1/10/2008 1:23:37 PM |

Basically just pisses me off even more that Blu-Ray won.
Quote : | "And while Beeks seemed like he had solid command over the finer points of the movie industry, I was interested to see why his studio chose Blu-ray over the alternative.
Expecting the canned answer like, "Well, we thought it was the superior format and I'm happy to say that we were right," you could imagine my surprise when the very first reason he gave was Blu-ray's piracy controls.
For those of you who don't know, Blu-ray's piracy controls--largely based on AACS, BD+, and BD-ROM Mark--are easily the most stringent format to date and have only partially been circumvented to this point.
Regardless, I was utterly appalled at the thought that with all of its benefits--high-capacity, interesting new features to employ while playing movies, major industry backing--Beeks chose piracy as the first talking point." |

Quote : | "Report: Universal opts out of HD DVD exclusivity Variety says major Toshiba high-def video player supporter will not renew its sole support of the format when it expires in May. By Tom Magrino, GameSpot Posted Jan 10, 2008 2:15 pm PT
Last week, Warner Bros. shook up the next-gen format war with a seemingly impromptu announcement that it would be abandoning Toshiba's HD DVD high-definition video playback format in favor of Sony's Blu-ray standard beginning in May. The blow to HD DVD was followed by a vicious left hook, when the Financial Times revealed that fellow HD DVD supporter Paramount may capitalize on an out clause in its exclusivity contract with Toshiba that specifically pertained to Warner Bros.' defection.
Though the Viacom-owned Paramount officially continues to stand by its HD DVD exclusivity decision--as does format supporter Microsoft, despite recent reports that Blu-ray support for the Xbox 360 wasn't out of the question--Universal Studios would be the sole major-studio standard bearer for the HD DVD format. However, it now appears Universal may be readying the haymaker that will down Toshiba's video playback standard for the count.
Variety reports that Universal Studios has ended its HD DVD exclusivity deal, though it will continue to only support the format until its current arrangement with Toshiba ends May 31. The report did not indicate whether Universal will exclusively support Sony's Blu-ray format after that date. Speaking to GameSpot, a Universal Studios representative confirmed that, for the time being, the studio will continue to support HD DVD, though they would not say whether Blu-ray support is also on the agenda.
Sony's Blu-ray high-def video player, which is prominently advertised as one of the primary draws of the PlayStation 3, enjoys the lion's share of support from major motion picture studios. In addition to Warner Bros., the Walt Disney Company, 20th Century Fox, and Lionsgate all support the format exclusively. New Line Cinema and HBO, both subsidiaries of Time Warner, also reportedly revealed during the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show that they would follow Warner Bros. as Blu-ray exclusive studios. " |

In this case, my issue isn't the fact that they released players that are now going to be lacking functionality. Even though, god knows, that if anyone wanted that functionality it'd be those same early adopters.
It's more that they knowingly and willingly fucked over their consumers and are now taking the attitude "LOL SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER THAN TO BUY OUR PRODUCT" to anyone that doesn't want a gaming console as their main DVD player.
