any advice on holsters for cc?

I tried on a IWB holster today - seems like a pain really.
I'm also concerned about what I can use during summer months, when I won't have so many clothes on...

I'm a bigger guy and I don't think a should holster will work

try a small of back leather holster like the ones that PDHS has on the wall. They sit well for me even under a teeshirt, and a lot more comfortable than a kydex one.

Google these brands/ models
C-tac, m-tac, crossbreed supertuck, or a good quality leather holster

SOB or MOB can be comfortable, but you should carry closer to your kidney and not directly behind your spine. There is also IWB and OWB for SOB carry.

Just be careful carrying in the small of your back. If you fall on your gun you can get messed up pretty bad.

maybe if you carry a massive gun and do extreme sports. My P11 barely pokes above the waistband of jeans enough to snag it for a draw. And I feel safer and more comfortable with a small of back carry, even with the print through shirt when you bend over issue, as opposed to a front tuck carry. I sit down enough that a pocket carry/small of back/side tuck more or less works, however the ever popular front of pants/pointed at your groin carry does NOT work well for me.

You can also look into crossdraw setups. This allows a lot of comfort when sitting, as well as easy access

Agreed. If you're dead set on it, do it. But there are a lot of disadvantages to SOB that don't exist elsewhere.

most of the time, it is a pain. depends on what you are used to. if you are used to carrying all the time, then it becomes second nature. if not, IWB is a pain. OWB is easier, but not as concealable.

yeah that and if someone knocks you down, it's hard to reach your back trying to fight someone off.

mines a crossbreed IWB holster, and the leather backing makes it plenty comfortable. The only thing I don't like is that I can't wear a couple pairs of pants (it does push out the waist line a little)

shot the glock 21sf in 45 today... I was very surprised with the consistency of it



a guy we had there who had never fired a gun (no less a pistol) was even getting good groupings with it





I might have to rethink my whole hesitancy towards Glocks....

why the belt?

all my belts work fine (I haven't looked at them- do they offer any special features?)

i just feel like that 60 bucks could be spent better on more magazines or some defense ammo or something

the one belt I have is pretty much worn out. I've been wearing it for 10+ years, it's pretty cheap and flimsy, and curls up on the sides.

I figured a thicker, sturdier belt would do well.

It doesn't even do well with my belt holster.

i tried the glock SF 45 today too.. i just don't like the trigger. i'd be more inclined to switch to a easy DA tigger than a glock trigger. personal pref.

a sturdy belt makes all the difference. a good belt will be two layers of bull hide or horse hide leather. double stitched. the buckle can be changed to your preference.

it supports you and your pistol. a thin flimsy belt will not hold up for very long and will stretch. that's NOT what you want in a carry belt. think about police officers, they carry all day everyday. do they use a dress belt?

if you get the kydex clips that don't show, you can get velcro tabs put on and velcro sewn on your belt to make it even easier to use.

check out crossbreed or thebeltman. i'd recommend the 7 hole.

a cheaper option would be a wilderness nylon belt.

try it, you'll see.

added info about clipsgo get a bore snake. I use a Hoppes rod kit with my pistols, aluminum rod, and just change ends, but have started using a bore snake on my 9mm stuff, esp on the Calico, as for that i have to use a rifle length rod. If you plan tog et other guns in 40, its a good investment. Otherwise, go buy a cheap kit and a 40 cal bore jag.

On another note, I found a bag of stripper clips the size i wanted for cheap online, used them to bulk out an order to minimum size on a parts site.

If anyone is looking for a CCH Class/Instructor, I highly recommend Chuck Gentry. I (and at least one other TWW'er) took the course with him yesterday (1/17/09).

I thoroughly enjoyed the class, the entire time. It did take a whole day, but Chuck kept things interesting. He's a dynamic, entertaining, and comical speaker, with lots of interest and experience. He's a LEO and knows his stuff.

It was $65 (cash only) for our class, though this may change slightly, depending on the venue. We were at the Durham at a Ruritan Club. The course included instruction, booklet, written test, and shooting demonstration. They also had coffee and doughnuts for a morning snack. For lunch they grilled out (while we were in class); had BBQ chicken, beans, potatoes, etc. There's a break about every hour or so.

All we had to take was a NCDL, cost in cash, gun, box of ammo, eyes & ears.

He did have a few guns & ammo you could use (buy the ammo though) as well as some eyes & ears.

yeh, I was surprised that it included lunch. And it wasn't some crappy lunch either, two guys were literally grilling out all morning, right outside of the building.

I'm not sure if this happens for every class, but I'm pretty sure he does something worthwhile for lunch. It was truly an awesome deal considering other guys were $75+ with no meal, etc. and PDHSC is like $120.

yeah, I took the class with him yesterday too and it was definitely worth the $65 just for the comedic value alone. the dude is pretty funny and there were a bunch of people in the class from the mebane/efland area that asked about some totally ridiculous what if scenarios/questions. the material could have been covered in 3-4 hours easy but the state requirement is 8 hrs + range time.
