what is the strategy for that? snipe things that are about to end at a low price and resell? any easy way to do this? I am not sure where to start really.6/4/2012 1:52:49 PM |

I normally put in highly desirable stat combinations and put a max buyout that is low. If something pops up i can buy it and re-sell it.
For instance I found this ring:
+19 Max Damage +45 Strength +74 Dexterity +75 Vitality +42 Lightning Resist +176 Armor +1 Socket
for 80k buyout. I bought it right away. It wasnt an upgrade for me but I can put it back up for several hundred thousand and make a profit.

so is it pretty much impossible to get adequate gear for inferno without the auction house? i'm really not trying to just up and buy all my shit. 6/4/2012 3:14:35 PM |

All the gear on the AH dropped for someone. Its not impossible, it will just take a really long time.
The AH is like another game within D3 entirely. Enjoyable but I just use it as a tool to improve my character so I can progress.
Also, found these on the AH for 9k.

I think they are trying to avoid everyone putting everything up on the AH and flooding things out since the AH appears to just be one entity. Its pretty absurd as it is. I have to get really specific in my queries for weapons just to weed out anything below 300 DPS. Really, who would put a lvl 60 item up with less than 300 DPS (2 handed no-less).
Imagine the commodity business as well. It will be just like WoW where someone has a stack of 500 objects for a rep grind and list each individually. D3 is new, so multiply that by a hajillion. 6/4/2012 3:57:48 PM |

Armor only reduces damage from enemies the SAME level as you or less; in inferno ALL enemies are ABOVE level 60. This is why resistances helps the most in Inferno since they are not level dependant. By watching Kungen's stream you need at least 200 resistances to be able to play and have fun in Inferno. Also, yuo should look into upping your Dex since it will make you have more Dodge chances. 6/4/2012 7:15:11 PM |

i can definitely see how people like the auction house, but i will probably eschew it entirely. i just think it's more of a game finding your own stuff. that being said, i doubt i'm a serious enough gamer to try to complete inferno anyway.
i'm also a little put off by the RMAH. I can't say anything that hasn't been said a million times before, but i feel like with the profit aspect put in to play, blizzard will shape the game to produce the most profit for them from the auction house, as opposed to shaping it to be as fun as possible. 6/4/2012 7:26:40 PM |

Yeah I got my barb up to act 1 inferno, cleared that no problem, then inferno was a bitch. So I went to the auction house with 300k to see what upgrades I could get. And then I found an item I thought was worth a little more... so after selling it for like a 200k profit I started buying and selling. Now I'm up to 17 million with probably another 2-3 million in items to sell.
Mostly stick to what you know. I've been focusing on barbarian gear (str/vit/all resists). Worst case scenario is you buy an item that you either A) don't profit from, or B) sits in your auction house for all 36 hours. So far I've had maybe 3 items go all the way through the timer, and I've had I think 2 losses. I'm pretty careful about what I buy. General rule of thumb is to check the timer. I typically don't buy an item that isn't at 1d 11/12 hours. If an item can't sell at its current price then it surely isn't going to sell at a higher price. Also - I've purchased maybe 2-3 items that are more then 500k. Typically I buy stuff for 100k that I resell for 500k+. I don't like taking big risks. 6/4/2012 7:35:47 PM |

My luck in this game has been so bad when it comes to drops. If it weren't for the AH I'd still be stuck in hell with shit gear(and Zags giving me stuff).
On the plus side resists are now up over 500 each and it really makes a difference. I felt like 500 was the magic number for act 2 inferno and now act 1 is a joke with that resist. Also moved away from so much attack speed items. They are expensive and I think it artificially inflates your DPS. Not sure it really mattered how fast I was shooting if I was always running for my life like that kid in the chicken video or dead. My dps looks less impressive with my current setup on paper, only 20k, but I think without all the AS gear I'm better off than when I was at 30-35ish. My crits go anywhere from 60-100k damage. Maybe that is the wrong mentality.
Also, as far as set gear goes, if you wear 2 rings from a set will it count it as wearing 2 pieces or can you only get credit for 1 ring? 6/5/2012 1:57:35 PM |

Not to sound like a dick but if you are struggling in act 1 of Hell w/ a Wizard you have something just setup wrong or are completely geared out wrong. It shouldn't be that tough. Probably a few little gear upgrades that won't cost to much will make all the difference. For Hell all it was for me was a bit extra vitality for some more HP.
On another note, I'm putting together one of the end legendary WD sets. The first 2 bonuses are great, 130 extra int, 50 extra all resist. Good stuff. The final set bonus for getting 4 very expensive/rare pieces of armor? 10 mana per kill. I regain mana at a rate of 50 per second and have 850 mana. What does 10 mana per kill gain me? How does that help against elite mobs throwing fireballs and shooting laser beams at you? I don't get that one bit. Someone at Blizzard was just fucking around and was like, "let me see if I can slip this into the game." 6/5/2012 9:49:02 PM |

Quote : | "It’s no secret that our goal for the end-game item hunt is players hunting monsters packs, building to five stacks of Nephalem Valor, and then killing a boss. While we’re seeing a lot of that occurring, what we’re missing is people feeling like it’s worthwhile to continue onward after killing a boss. To help hit that goal we’re lowering the number of guaranteed Rare items on bosses when you have your full five stacks of Nephalem Valor from two guaranteed Rares to one guaranteed Rare (you still have a very good chance at multiple rares, it's just no longer guaranteed). In exchange, all champion and rare packs will now drop a bonus guaranteed Rare item when you have your full five stacks of Nephalem Valor. The change benefits players with more overall drops, and a reason to push to continue progressing." |
Quote : | "Inferno balance right now has a difficulty gap in which Act I feels about right, but Act II feels like trying to bust through a brick wall. In patch 1.0.3 we’re going to be lowering that wall by adjusting the damage and health of monsters in Inferno Act II, III and IV. We feel like Act I Inferno is in a pretty good place. Our design goal with Acts II, III and IV is to keep them challenging, but smooth the difficulty ramp out a bit. If a monk or barbarian is geared well enough that they can use a heavily offensive build and murder everything in Act I, they should be able to swap to a more defensive build and do okay in Act II. As they gear up they can begin adjusting back to becoming offensive in Act II, at which point they can jump into Act III with a focus on defense, and so on. Difficulty certainly ties into itemization, encounter and enemy tuning, and class balance, and all of these things together are going to paint a more reasonable difficulty curve as you hit Inferno in 1.0.3." |
Quote : | "Current repair costs at level 60 are barely noticeable, and because of that we see a lot of people wonder if “graveyard zerging” tough enemies or “chain rezzing allies on a boss” is intended gameplay – it definitely is not. To help solve the issue we evaluated a number of new death mechanics, such as just allowing the resurrection timer to increase even higher, disallowing resurrection during boss fights, or putting a debuff on you when you resurrect (such as reduced combat effectiveness). Ultimately we felt that increasing repair costs was the best solution that preserves the fast paced style of the game. Repair costs on level 60 items are going to go up a lot. Our goal is the next time a player is graveyard zerging a boss, it should occur to them that “this is probably not an efficient way to go about things”. We’re currently evaluating repair costs between 4x and 6x their current values. In the face of increasing costs, we recommend listening to the Hardcore players out there as they probably have some helpful advice on how to minimize repair costs. Following this change zerging a boss will still be possible, but our intent is that it won’t be optimal, and players who are seeking to be as efficient as possible will adjust their item hunting routes accordingly." |

Liking the changes. I can mow through Act 1 like a boss. I think I'm 20k dps short of being able to mow through Act 3. Hate the repair bill change - that could be something like 50k. 6/6/2012 11:26:31 AM |

That canyon was fucking stupid on every difficulty really. You've got these lacuni who are essentially immune while they're leaping and they just appear from nothing and then you've got these wasps whose projectiles are nearly impossible to see, do a shit ton of damage, and then you've got zero running room to avoid either. And the wasps and lacuni can just leave the area you can go and still shoot crap at you.
Maybe I just really hate lacuni. 6/6/2012 11:59:01 AM |

Frenzy - Manic Rend - Blood Lust Revenge - Provocation War Cry - Impunity Ignore Pain - Iron Hide Wrath of the Berserker - Insanity
Nerves of Steel Superstition Tough as Nails
Get a 550+ dps one hand and a good shield. Armor should be: +all resist > +vit > +str Aim for 500+ to all resists, that seems to be the sweet spot
Wade into packs of mobs: Rend -> Frenzy -> Rend as needed to keep it up -> Revenge when it procs
The more mobs Rend/Revenge is hitting, the better your heals work
Ignore Pain as needed
Wrath on all elites
Running/Avoiding damage is a huge priority. Don't expect to spank & tank and soak up shit-tons of damage. You have to do a fair amount of moving around.
---
As you approach and exceed these gear goals, you have a lot more flexibility with what you can do, and even explore ditching the shield for a 2H.

Skills are based on raw weapon damage, and 2h have values much higher than a 1h. So you're either trying to maximize at one end of the spectrum with a 1H + Sheild (defensive) or the other end with a 2H (offensive). I'm not saying that dual wielding isn't viable in inferno, but I haven't seen anyone doing it or talking about it. 6/6/2012 2:47:52 PM |

2hd skill dmg (like revenge) does more, whereas DW does more white dmg (and procs more shit like axes/stuns).
in inferno, i have to do a lot more hit and run with the barb (to be fair I don't buy AH gear and I JUST got to inferno, so this is likely to change). as a result the quick skill dmg bursts based on weapon dmg works better for me than the quick frenzy rampup and white dmg of DW.
at least this is what it feels like to me. my build is almost the same as the one noted except i use ground stomp and furious charge instead of ignore pain / berserker. This gives me some additional stuns/health regen options at the expense of damage. works better for hit and run i find.
i might swap to more dmg build though since we usually run a 4 man group and have the monk tank now. 6/6/2012 2:57:23 PM |
