^ I hope that was all it was. I hope he is not the next Jerome Walton or Bob Hamelin.

Quote :
"Dudes on MLBN last night said Hamels wasn't going to pitch at all"

I heard on the radio this morning that they were going to work him in relief some. MLBN is a more reliable source and I hope they're right. Not that it really matters as the Braves could not hit little league pitching right now.

I hope Fredi goes with this lineup tonight just to mix it up:
1. Bourne
2. Constanza
3. Chipper
4. McCann
5. Uggla
6. Freeman
7. Prado
8. Wilson
9. Hudson

Maybe the speed at the top can add a new element. Can Hinske play SS?

Is that a serious question?

Hinske shouldn't even own a glove

^^You guys really need SS help after that superstar Escobar for Gonzalez swap last year?

^^ Come on man you know that was a joke. Yes I realize Hinske has the defensive ability of Big Papi or Travis Hafner.

^ What was so wrong about that trade? Gonzalez had a good season for the Blue Jays before the Braves got him and has been what the Braves could have expected - a .240 hitter with 20 HR power. His defense this year has been for the most part exceptional. Escobar was a whiny douche that Cox got tired of dealing with.

Is that directed at me or ndmetcal? If me, yeah I'm pretty at the Braves.

Who had a leaping catch at the wall to rob a homer this year: Hinske or Ortiz?

You traded a 27 year old SS having an off year for a 33 year old SS having a career year (career year = .793 OPS)

This year, Escobar is back to being a 4+ WAR SS in his prime while Gonzalez is back to being a 1 WAR SS. On the defensive side, they've been pretty much equivalent. If Escobar wasn't in the Braves' plans, I have to think they could have got back more for him than a downgrade at the same position

You're overlooking Gonzalez's defense and the fact that no one in the clubhouse liked Escobar.

[Edited on September 28, 2011 at 5:51 PM. Reason : Escobar's line at the trade: .238/.334/.284 ]

Lineup

ajcbraves David O'Brien
#Braves lineup: 1. Bourn CF, 2. Prado LF, 3. Jones 3B, 4. Uggla 2B, 5. Freeman 1B, 6. McCann C, 7. Diaz RF, 8. Wilson SS, 9. Hudson RH

Also said the braves are giving away tomahawks to the first 25,000....hopefully we get a chance to use them.

They'll have enough tomahawks to give 2 to each fan that shows up tonight.

No I'm not. According to UZR, Yunel has been better defensively. According to bWAR, Gonzalez has been better by a very narrow margin

Quote :
"and the fact that no one in the clubhouse liked Escobar"

I can appreciate that fact, but again, if he didn't fit in the Braves' plans (for whatever reason), they couldn't have got more for him than a downgrade at the position?

Quote :
"Escobar's line at the trade: .238/.334/.284"

As I already noted, yes he was having a down year. As also stated, he is back to being the far superior SS of the 2, while being 5 years younger. Good thing Matt Kemp wasn't a Brave, or he would have been shipped out last year as well after his sub-par 2010 season

I just don't see why Braves fans are continuing to back that atrocious trade that has bit them in the ass this season. Who knows though, maybe Pastornicky becomes the Braves' SS of the future

This is such a weird fucking thing to be talking about. Yunel didn't cost the Braves the playoffs this year. He might have cost them the playoffs last year had they hung on to him. He was a pouty cunt that wasn't contributing on either side of the ball.

Quote :
"they couldn't have got more for him than a downgrade at the position?"

No, they couldn't have. Pastornicky might be ready by the break next year and there are no other SS prospects in the system. They had a shit SS they needed to replace and Gonzalez was the best straight-up trade (Braves also got Pastornicky in that trade, so it might end up being a really good deal).

You want to talk about bad SS deals for the Braves in recent years, talk about trading Elvis Andrus.

[Edited on September 28, 2011 at 6:12 PM. Reason : Kemp's numbers murder Escobar's last year. And it had as much to do with his attitude as his numbers]

^ /argument.

Also LOL at that lineup. I guess since Blanton is a lefty, the Braves had to put Diaz in the lineup.

You'll never convince me that a trade that shipped out Jo Jo Reyes was a bad deal. Braves could have played with 8 in the field all season and no shortstop and I'd have called that a great trade.

hah st. louis up 5-0 in the first already. if we hold onto this game and have to go play in st. louis tomorrow, as much as i love this team I would give us a 25% chance at best to win that game
