i wasn't aware anyone really cared about the hire. it doesn't seem like a very big deal to me. i will save concern until after the guy coaches a season.

it's a solid b, b- hire with potential to exceed or fall short of that. probably comparable to gottfried where you need a year or two to make a real determination. either way you are trading a coach who was responsible for 9 major ncaa violations to one who is only responsible for some minor violations so that's a plus.

I wouldnt compare it to Gottfriend at all.

Gottfriend went to an elite 8 and a #1 ranking.

Fedora hasnt done either, no BCS games and sub-par record against <.500 teams with no #1 ranking.

Listened to about 20 minutes of the UNC press conference for Fedora on the DG show at lunch. Dude sounds like a douchebag that is trying to hard to be a good ole Southern ball coach. Talked about how he was going to use the great NFL football talent that UNC has produced to help recruit.

He specifically mentioned Peppers, Saturday, Brandon Tate, and Bruce Carter. LOL. Left off their best current alum in Hakeem Nicks and then did not bother to mention Lawrence Taylor.

Wilbon just called out UNC when discussing Ohio State being able to have two coaching staffs working at the same time. Said that "Ohio State as well as North Carolina ran afoul of the NCAA rules," as well as some other stuff. He said it was unfair to the rest of the schools.

I don't think it's a terrible hire, he certainly has potential, but he didn't do anything really impressive at USM. If it were State, I'd rather take a chance on Malzahn or Calhoun or hopefully have not missed out on Summlin and Franklin first.

Why do people keep saying this? He's 11-2 this year. 7-6, 7-6, 8-5, 11-2. Pretty steady up trend.

I know they are in a weak conference, but they won at Virginia as well as Houston.

I thought UNC's program was pretty much in shambles and the NCAA isn't even finished with them yet...

I wouldn't say they were in "shambles". In fact, given the circumstances, they're doing pretty well. They somehow continue to get quality commits, and attrition has been relatively minor. And who knows how harsh or soft the penalties are gonna be.

I just don't think one good season in the awful CUSA makes for a great coach, I did say he has potential. Would have been interesting to see how well Fedora did the next year at USM.

Bower also won 4 conference championships, and was 119-83-1 there with only one season having less than 7 wins and 6 of his 12 seasons having 8 or 9 wins. So outside of this year Fedora hasn't done anything at USM better than Bower, so this one season doesn't really do it for me.
