Nominating Santorum is a big gamble. One possibility is that he gets devastated and forces the Republican party to reform and expel the fundamentalist factions. The other, however remote, possibility is that he wins and attempts to make the events in the book of Revelation a reality.

I think I read somewhere that in the states that he's actually winning, there have been absurdly low turnouts (like < 5%) 2/14/2012 10:34:34 AM |

I will be absolutely astonished if Santorum gets the nod.
If he does, there is no chance in hell he will win. It will probably be the most lopsided landslide ever recorded.
I like to think the Christian Fundamental Right lives in a bubble where they think they majority of Americans are of like mind... But maybe I am the one living in a bubble, ignorantly believing that the plurality of people can reason and critically think. 2/14/2012 10:37:08 AM |

Arizona is winner take all. Mitt is heavily favored there. Michigan is proportional. Mitt's is playing smart. It's all about delegates. If he wins winner take all states and splits proportional states, he can't lose. Santorum is only trying to win proportional Midwest states. He can't garner enough delegates this way. I would bet anything Romney wins the nomination. He is doing it the smart way.
Also Romney will pick somebody ultra 'conservative' to get that vote nailed down. He already has the latino and women vote in his base (2 voting blocs McCain couldn't touch with 100ft pole)
redacted. he needs the libertarians and pauls support. agreed V

this is precisely the choice.
consolidate the libertarian vote and force the evangelicals to pick between a mormon and a muslim. lol2/14/2012 10:57:28 AM |

I'd be willing to wager that evangelicals are much more likely to vote down the party line, especially against a "black muslim", than independents and libertarians. 2/14/2012 12:02:04 PM |

I'm not saying it isn't. I'm saying that a GOP nominee won't win without the young, libertarian-ish voters than tend to choose Ron Paul.2/14/2012 12:08:04 PM |

If they have to choose between courting young libertarians and courting evangelicals they are going to choose evangelicals, sry.

Quote : | ""There is income inequality in America. There always has been and hopefully, and I do say that, there always will be," said the former Pennsylvania Senator. "Why? Because people rise to different levels of success based on what they contribute to society and to the marketplace and that's as it should be."
Santorum explained himself this way, "We shouldn't have a society that has a President who envies or creates class warfare or envy between one group of people and another," said Santorum.
"We should celebrate like we do in the small towns all across American _ as you do here in Detroit. You celebrate success. You build statues and monuments. Buildings, you name after them. Why? Because in their greatness and innovation, yes, they created wealth, but they created wealth for everybody else. And that's a good thing, not something to be condemned in America."

We think, well, you know it’ll get better. Yeah, he’s a nice guy. I mean, it won’t be near as bad as what we think. This will be okay. I mean, yeah, maybe he’s not the best guy after a while, after a while you find out some things about this guy over in Europe who’s not so good of a guy after all. You know what … we’ll just take care of our own problems. We’ll just get our families off to work and our kids off to school and we’ll be okay.
