ive put in about 20hrs on zelda and wii sports
my opinion: if they don't do something to fine tune the responsiveness/accuracy of the controllers, the entire system will be a huge fucking disaster.
nothing but quirks and "oh it's not the controller, i guess I just didn't move it right" excuses from the instant it got plugged in 12/6/2006 4:33:43 AM |

zelda works great for me, trauma center (another really pointer intensive game) also works great..the only game I've had trouble with was Red steel but after sitting down and forcing myself to play for about an hour, I'm really enjoying it now, got used to the controller 12/6/2006 10:20:28 AM |

^8 i sort of agree. granted i have only played a little zelda and wii sports at my friend's place, but i got pretty frustrated playing golf. most of the times the controller worked fine but it is definitely not consistent enough for me to be blown away. 12/6/2006 11:13:23 AM |

i agree that the wii sports game needs a bit of work with the accuracy of the controllers, but for a free demo game to help you get used to the motion sensing, it does well enough. 12/6/2006 11:19:55 AM |

I will probably be getting some gamecube games and controllers to play on my Wii here pretty soon. Will I need to purchase a gamecube memory card too or can I store gamecube game info on the Wii's internal system memory?

The GCN controllers actually have build in wireless capabilities and can contact the Wii automatically with no configuration. The ones with cables will actually work without batteries, so they are much better than the Wavebirds.
Actually, you just pop off one of the sides and their are 4 controller ports and a port for a card . 12/7/2006 11:50:56 AM |

^According to my sources Target, Circuit City, and Toys R Us will have them available Sunday morning. Wal-mart will have them again the 17th.
Now, humandrive and I have our hearts set on getting a Wii, it'll be our xmas present to each other. We'll be in Wilmington for this weekend's shipment, and I'm wondering if any store will be more likely than the other? The people I babysit just got one and said they were only there about 30 minutes before opening, but that was a shipment of 40+, I don't know if this weekend's will be that big. Suggestions? 12/7/2006 2:06:44 PM |

wiis actually priced around 215 or so, so we paid basically $35 more for wii sports. japanese nunchucks and wiimotes are also cheaper, but their games are more expensive so there is a balance in there12/7/2006 2:15:34 PM |

Quote : | "The success of the games stands and falls on the ability to truly control the on-screen action with the Wiimote and in this regard the Wii is a mixed success.
There is a learning curve with all new games and control systems but I had the distinct impression that often the action on the screen was only loosely connected to how I used the controller.
For a game bundled with the console, Wii Sports does a great job of introducing people to the concept of using the new controller without ever really pushing the envelope.
Certainly it will prove to be an entertaining party game - and it has the distinction of being the first videogame I have ever managed to persuade my wife to play.
She was impressed with the simplicity of the controller but often frustrated that a swipe of the remote did not always translate into a stunning backhand or long, straight drive. " |
Looks like Fermat and I aren't the only ones not doing backflips over the lackluster controls.12/8/2006 10:30:32 AM |

Fixed .
You can complain about the power in golf or the responsiveness of boxing, but complaining about Tennis? Tennis is damned responsive. Since she is mentioning that game (as opposed to the others), I can't take a thing she says seriously.12/8/2006 11:11:38 AM |

that article fails in the fact that the only game it is basing its opinion of the wii on is the FREE game that comes bundled with it. of course wii sports is going to be unpolished, its more a demo version for things to come.

they announced earlier on in the year that they were going to sell it for less than 250. so even without wii sports, they still probably would have charged 249.99 for it 12/8/2006 12:41:31 PM |

You're saying it's ok to have the one game that you know everyone will play not be perfect?
If anything that game should be the only game that's flawless. Something that shows off everything that the system can do and just how well it can be done. And all we get is something that's nothing more than a glorified demo?
I mean maybe other games will end up getting better. Lord knows it can't get much worse than Wii golf.12/8/2006 12:46:52 PM |
ussjbroli All American 4518 Posts user info edit post |
^^^ the console itself is cheaper in japan, but the games are more expensive. there is a tradeoff. you also have to account that prices are just different based on what part of the world something is being sold in. eurpean prices for the wii are going to be around $300 USD, and prices for xbox 360 launch in britain were almost 100 USD more.
^its a demo for using the controller in the form of 5 mini-games and is meant to allow you start customizing your own miis, etc. Wii play and Wii music won't look any different, and i doubt the controls will be more refined. The game doesn't have to look great. And i don't have any problems with the wii sports controls. I know i see people having problems with golf, but if you use your other hand as a stop for the remote we've dsicovered you can be very precise with your swing. especially in putting, just tap the remote against the palm of your other hand and you can do very light strokes that the wii picks up every time. I'll admit Wii Sports isn't flawlessly executed, but it gets the job done, meaning that it's fun and intuitive. The system would've still flown off the shelves at $250 due to Zelda. Wii Sports is more about selling a new control scheme to the general public than making an ultra-high polished game. 12/8/2006 12:52:02 PM |

jeez fanboys+girls, don't get so defensive.
I love the Wii, I think Wii Sports is a fun game.
I'm in the same came as Nacho on this one though. Wii Sports should be THE MOST POLISHED Wii game, as far as controls are concerned. If it's meant to showcase the capabilities of the controller, and everyone is guaranteed to play it, why not make it flawless??
Some of you are saying that it's ok if the game is not perfect, since it's free. I was just pointing out that no, it's not free. You paid more than someone who buys the system w/o Wii Sports. 12/8/2006 3:15:20 PM |

and we pointed out that that is not because their system comes with out wii sports, but because their consoles are just cheaper (see PS3). europe pays $50 more for their systems than we do, just like we pay $50 more for ours than the japanese do. 12/8/2006 4:23:33 PM |
