I couldn't watch the film without thinking of this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sY0fPhgLAcM

The Joker was perfect. In fact, I'm rather pissed because Ledger ruined the franchise by topping any possible follow-up villain.

"The 2008 Hulk movie didn't have a higher opening weekend than the 2003 Hulk movie--even with five years of inflation adjustment. In addition, movie ticket prices are rising at less than the rate of inflation: "

So you cherry pick two movies and compare their opening weekend totals. I don't think it works that way.

"On average movie tickets cost about $7 -- the price is rising less than the rate of inflation. Since 1991, the price of movie tickets has risen 67 percent. While that may seem like a significant increase, by comparison, the cost of baseball tickets has more than tripled."

But it is rising. Plus, I don't think inflation is determined by the price of baseball tickets. Another case of cherry picking two things and trying to draw a comparison.

In any event, I'm going to bow out gracefully now, because I am, in fact, not trolling.

"Proving that there truly is no such thing as bad publicity, The Dark Knight added $75.6 million to its Batcoffers this weekend, bringing its total-to-date to $314,245,000. That superquick crossing of the $300 million threshold bests the record set by Pirates of the Caribbean 3, which in 2006 needed 16 days to achieve the feat.

Next in the Bat's sights is Shrek 2's record for hitting the $400 mil mark: 43 days. Dark Knight, by some projections, could get there in, um, 18 days.

Beyond that, of course, is the all-time box-office gross — $600,788,188 — garnered by Titanic. "It's a tall order," Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media By Numbers, tells the AP, "but if any film has a chance to [do it], it's got to be Dark Knight.""

So I see where you are coming from. I assume you're arguing the point all recent movies have the advantage. I hope you can see the point others are trying to make.

I kind of wanted to believe the joker's first story about those scars, and he did comment on hating his father later in the movie

No way would Daniel Day-Lewis play the Joker.

He's been in like 4 movies in the past decade, I seriously doubt he would consider a comic book movie.

If DDL decided to play the role of the Joker, he would get arrested during filming for robbing banks and killing folks - b/c we know he's a method actor.

He played a cripple in another movie and didnt leave his wheelchair for the filming

"'The Dark Knight' has performed so well at the box office that producers are already working on casting the next instalment of the Batman story, once again to be directed by Christopher Nolan. In a frankly inspired piece of casting it is rumoured that they will be approaching Johnny Depp to play the role of the Riddler and attempt to breathe life into a character hammed to death by Jim Carrey in the truly awful 'Batman Forever'.

Johnny's a lovely man so hopefully he won't prepare for the role in the same way as Heath Ledger did for the Joker (by seemingly going a bit dotty then dying). If this comes off it might be the first time the audience is cheering for the Riddler to give Batman a truly historic hammering.

Depp is no stranger to odd characters. He played Willy Wonka, Edward Scissorhands and used to knob Kate Moss, but there's another fine piece of casting in the wings. The Penguin (last played by Danny DeVito – and looking more like a dead dinner lady than a super-villain) is going to be played by Philip Seymour Hoffman, so goes the rumour.

Who else in the world could bring the awkwardness, the air of menace and the gallons of sweat to the role better than Hoffman? All it needs now is Angelina Jolie as a naked Catwoman and I'll start camping outside the cinema now."

thought nolan did not like the penguin

that could be pretty cool. johnny depp is a fantastic actor, and even though i hate penguin, philip seymour hoffman is a good choice as well (if you believe the "rumours")

i don't think i'd want to see more than 2 villains though. not unless they're planning on making it a 4 hour movie, because you know nolan will want to be thorough

worst $15 i have ever spent.

the joker was the only good thing. otherwise the movie sucked and it was 90% full of supremely childish scenes and dialogues which were trying hard to be passed off as philosophical debates.

batman begins was awesome.

Hoffman and Depp are really good actors and could pull off those roles.

Maybe Nolan's Penguin will be better than any before.

Forgive my hiatus over the past couple of weeks but after seeing TDK premiere, I left within hours for Mexico and I just got back. I saw the movie for a second time down there, dubbed! Absolutely rotten!! After watching Heath's portrayal, I felt so cheated!!!
Now, as far as the movie here in it's spoken language goes, it was incredible. I must admit though, it wasn't what I was expecting plot wise but that is not a complaint. I really thought we'd have more of a "joker card" type moment with a direct allusion to the upcoming villain in the next film. I also didn't expect Two-Face to die as I thought he was being set up for next film. Good riddance to the Rachel Dawes character. She was a waste of screen time. Looking at Maggie Gyllenhaal was painful. She has a hog snout for a nose. At least Katie Holmes wasn't bad on the eyes!! Christian Bale is by far the best Bruce Wayne. Just the right ammount of arrogance and yet he is not soooo brooding as Bruce Wayne as he cracks jokes and smiles from time to time. The only other even remotely negative thing I will say is that I felt like Batman's voice was a little extreme. He was hard to understand at times and I'm not digging all of the black around the eyes and his eyes were straight black. Looked lifeless, like a great white shark.
I loved Alred's analogy to how he took out the bad guys in Burma. "We burnt the forest." Ultimately, that was the only way to stop the Joker. Almost lower yourself to his terrorist level but without crossin the line.
What can I say about Heath Ledger? HE IS THE JOKER! No longer do I have the images of that prankster but rather now the image of an anarchist. Just burning and blowing shit up left and right. The interrogation scene in prison I think is going to rank right up there with all of the historic moments in cinema history. The dialogue and the two "freaks" feeling each other out was incredible. Loved how the harder he got hit the harder he laughed. Nothing scarier than someone who fears nothing!
As far as future villains. I don't want Catwoman. I hate that character! I do want the Riddler to be done because he would only continue to challenge Batman and push him to the brink. He will play mind games. Plus, can you imagine the virals that they would put online for us to complete to play the Riddler's games?! It would be incredible. I also want the Penguin. Jack Black I say but none of that stupid Tim Burton mutant shit. Just make him a mobster like Maroni who has a pointy noise with diminutive stature and a slight affliction for cigarettes. Also don't forget the monacle! But if they want to really turn heads, do the Mad Hatter. A gritty version that uses the mind manipulation like Jervis Tech in Batman the Animated Serious. I would love to see that. Here's to another 3 years of hype and speculation! WHY SO SERIOUS?!
