I know you guys hate when I post Technician stories up here, but I figure I'd do it anyways.
A different angle than the ones that have already been covered on Russell Wilson's past experiences:

^^haha, i almost think its dumber that this guy had to explain the obvious to everyone...whats that? Wilson's marketability depends on how good of a football player he is?????
Quote : | "However, according to Ralph Cindrich, the chief operating officer of Debartolo Sports and Entertainment, a name can only go so far.
"While the name can help, the key is whether the athlete is a top player and person," Cindrich said. "That matters most and pulls in the advertisers."
Al Lerner of Lerner Sports Marketing said until Wilson is a star NFL quarterback, his name is not worth much money.
"To tell you the truth, unless he is as good as Peyton Manning, it doesn't mean much," Lerner said. "I got four quarters and one nickel, and I'm willing to give him that if he's willing to endorse."" |

Just read the Technician article. I've got to say that the top half of it, where the writer talks to his former football coach, was actually very decent journalism.
But then I read the side bar. And then I remembered that the Technician is a student-run paper. Kinda clever I guess, but if you're going to write something like that, it's got to be tongue in cheek -- not serious.
Good job Josh Harrell. Bad job other guy...

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/ncfnation?tag=toughest%20schedules
Ranking the ACC schedules August 25, 2008 12:12 PM Posted by ESPN.com's Heather Dinich
Who's got it the hardest this year? Start with No. 1. The more breaks in the schedule, the farther down the list you go.
1. Georgia Tech -- Paul Johnson has back-to-back road games in the ACC against Boston College and Virginia Tech in the first three weeks, plus road trips to Clemson, UNC and rival Georgia. Yikes. The only breaks are the fact Wake and Maryland aren't on there. And Duke is.
2. NC State -- For a young team, starting the season with trips to South Carolina and Clemson in the first three weeks isn't ideal -- especially with a new quarterback. And East Carolina isn't a team to be taken lightly. South Florida? Good luck. The Wolfpack are lucky they miss Virginia Tech.
3. Boston College -- The three conference games the Eagles miss are against Miami, Virginia and Duke -- not exactly threats this year. Instead, the Eagles face Clemson and Virginia Tech, the teams favored to win their respective divisions. Road trips to FSU and Wake Forest aren't weeks off, either.
4. Virginia -- It's possible nobody in the league has it tougher in Week 1 than the Cavaliers, who open with USC, and a road trip to UConn will be tough, too. Virginia misses FSU, BC and NCSU, but more than compensates with Clemson and road trips to Wake Forest and Virginia Tech.
5. Miami -- The Hurricanes don't have to play Clemson, Boston College or Maryland, but road trips to Florida and Texas A&M make up for it. North Carolina is suddenly a game, as are Wake Forest and Virginia Tech.
6. Florida State -- Wake Forest, Clemson, Florida, Virginia Tech, Maryland -- not exactly the schedule you want if you're shooting for a 10-win season like Bobby Bowden. The Seminoles "escaped" North Carolina, Virginia and Duke.
7. Maryland -- The Terps get road trips to Clemson and Virginia Tech, plus a tough nonconference home game against Cal and a visit from Wake Forest. By the time these guys play Duke again, the Blue Devils just might win.
8. Clemson -- The fact the Tigers don't play Virginia Tech, North Carolina or Miami should make life a little easier. A little. The Tigers still have Alabama, Wake Forest, Florida State, Maryland and South Carolina. There's room in there somewhere for a big whoops.
9. Duke -- Opening the season with four straight home games could do wonders for a team in dire need of some confidence. The earlier the better if the Blue Devils are going to win multiple games, considering their consecutive road trips to Clemson and Virginia Tech in November.
10. Wake Forest -- If these guys can get through the first half of their schedule, look out. Virginia Tech, North Carolina and Georgia Tech are off the schedule. A road trip to Baylor, followed by a home game against Ole Miss and a trip to FSU make for a tough start to the season.
11. Virginia Tech -- Considering the Hokies don't play Clemson or Wake Forest, their odds to be in the title game just increased. We already know they can beat East Carolina (albeit barely), so back-to-back road trips to North Carolina and Nebraska should reveal more about this team.
12. North Carolina -- The Tar Heels don't play Clemson, Wake Forest or Florida State -- three of the top teams in the Atlantic Division. And they've got Virginia Tech early (Sept. 20). If there was ever a year for Butch Davis to take advantage of his schedule and a watered-down division, this would be it. 8/25/2008 10:47:11 PM |

Well at least it was a few weeks ago and not yesterday. seems like there is a chance for a full recovery for his dad so that's good. really sounds like a good family.
only thing i worry about is he might get a case of the brackmans and end up just playing baseball since his prospects sounds better there. 8/26/2008 8:37:54 AM |

If Wilson led us to a win it would seem all to story book. I could see it now, the game ends and Erin Andrews begins interviewing him. Russell, fighting back tears, talks about how much his dad means to him. How he learned so much from him, etc. 8/26/2008 9:36:19 AM |

everyone keeps saying that wilson's future is in pro baseball, which i guess is probably true since baseball drafts so many players, but it's not like wilson is a baseball star. 8/26/2008 9:59:52 AM |

If he is a 5'11" quarterback, his future is with baseball. I'm not saying he's a first round pick, but he's already been drafted, his stock will improve, and he has 2 more opportunities to be drafted in baseball. All he has to do is keep playing both sports, get some name recognition, and be above average on the diamond, and he makes a big contract in baseball. If he's drafted above the 5th round I wouldnt be surprised to see him quit football to go pro or to improve his senior season with the pack's baseball team. I think the point everyone is making is that he ain't playing pro football as a QB.8/26/2008 10:59:38 AM |

ok well my point is that there is no way he's drafted in the first five rounds.

and mine is that he has 2 more baseball seasons before his next draft, and possibly a 3rd. Who is to say he doesn't improve? He played damn well in limited time as a frosh last year.
I did read your post. I disagree that his situation isn't comparable to brackman's, and I disagree that Wilson isn't (or it sound more like you're saying he wont be) a star. I think he has as much potential to be a 2-5 round draft pick as anyone at this point.
