Bob Gibbons thinks that Wall will end up with us.
http://blogs.newsobserver.com/accnow/pack-hoops-recruiting-creates-buzz
Quote : | "Gibbons said he has a “gut feeling” that Wall will choose N.C. State rather than Memphis or Baylor. But he said even if Lowe doesn’t get either of those marquee players, he will have a solid class.
“It’s a very good class,” Gibbons said. “It doesn’t have that star power, but Richard Howell is very underrated nationally. He could have a major impact as a freshman.” " |

According to NC State tradition, Wall and Favors will both go to Memphis, and half of our team will go down with injuries.

Yeah, Favors dropped Memphis off his list
Quote : | "Derrick Favors could decide on a school “any day now,” according to Hulio Smith, one of Favors’ AAU coaches with the Atlanta Celtics. “Looks like he may go in the early period now,” Smith wrote in a text message Tuesday morning. “Hopefully any day now. Everyone will find out at the same time as he will do it live on ESPNU.”
The 6-foot-9, 270-pound Favors out of South Atlanta High is the No. 1 center in the Class of 2009. He will choose from among Georgia, Georgia Tech and N.C. State, Smith said.
Memphis and Florida State are apparently no longer in the mix. Favors had planned to visit Memphis but that visit did not take place. " " |

I'd say Wall isnt going to Baylor. Why would he? For a kid that wants to showcase talent as a potential one and done what does he get out of going to Waco?
at least coming to State he would be playing in the best basketball conference (top-bottom) in the nation, he would be working with 2 champion point guards as well as become a immediate star.
memphis and NCSU are the top 2 in this battle but with Favors now crossing Memphis off his list then it could mean something good is about to happen to us
memphis was the only school left recruiting both of them and they seemed to have gelled while visiting here. 11/4/2008 9:47:57 AM |

I think once Duke starting going for Wall, Memphis was no longer in the top 2, but duke and ncsu were.

why would you say that? Memphis has been in this race, strong, for over a year.

i guess it's good that he's undecided about exactly when he'll announce... b/c maybe he's not as solid on GT as people think? i don't know. fuck. 11/4/2008 11:14:42 AM |

simonn best gottfriend 28968 Posts user info edit post |
that all depends. i don't think we have to really be good (at least to persuade john wall), but i think we have to commit to playing a flavor of basketball that suits him. with the guys we have coming in next year, this team will be totally different. if he can see that the system is good, but missing really skilled players (which i think is a fair assessment), i think that'd go a long way.
then again, i have no idea what the fuck i'm talking about. 11/4/2008 11:52:37 AM |

We'll have to wait for Wall to take all of his visits before he announces. If anyone is going to decide soon it would be Favors. 11/4/2008 11:53:49 AM |

It sounded like Wall would announce early but he's changed his stance some, kinda disappointing because I thought we got him if he announced early. It seems like Favors' coach is pushing him to sign before the season though, just wish his coach was a big State fan, haha. 11/4/2008 11:57:33 AM |

Why wouldn't he? Same thing that happened to Michael Beasley: he followed his high school coach out to Kansas State, and ended up being the feature player at not only K State, but the entire Big 12. I hope Wall picks State, but if the team plays poorly over the season, his draft stock/image could suffer as a result.11/4/2008 1:31:52 PM |

Well the difference between a top 5 pick and #19 overall could be $10-$20 million, or more. So I would say that hurt him pretty good.11/4/2008 2:52:53 PM |

i guess we'll never know how high hickson would have gone. i mean, what if we would have made it to the acc title game again, hickson was selected first team all-confernece, AND we had made it to the elite 8 in the tourney? Would he have been drafted higher? 11/4/2008 4:14:43 PM |
wolfAApack All American 9980 Posts user info edit post |
no doubt he would have more exposure, but he was also the best player on the team last year. I think if that scenario unfolded, we would have needed Brandon to be the star, and good point guard play, so who knows how Hickson's stats would have turned out. 11/4/2008 5:31:26 PM |
