Very true. Plus it's a lot easier for one or two recruits to change around an entire program in basketball compared to football. That's why I don't really give a shit who TOB pulls in anymore ... sure getting a few of the high-star guys would be nice, but I don't find myself obsessing over it like I did when Amato was here. Basketball is a different story though.12/16/2008 11:45:46 AM |

"Pack Lands NJ Safety"
See I don't like the title to that article. Coleman grew up in Michigan and just happened to do his post grad in Jersey. That would be like an article for Sam Jones saying "State gets commitment from Virginia lineman". 12/16/2008 9:20:41 PM |

Nice to get Coleman. He's a prep guy, so he's already had one year post-graduation and should come in even more ready to play. If we RS him, he'll be ~20 y/o as a RS-FR. 12/16/2008 9:43:55 PM |

He softens the blow of missing out on Meeks and Harrison some. I think it shows how good of talent evaluators this staff is when this guy gets an offer from us and two weeks later Minnesota and Iowa offer. Delaware also offered. Coleman probably knew he could play D-IA football, but needed another year to get noticed, kind of like Meeks. Of course Meeks played for Hargrave, which gets probably the most attention amongst all the prep schools with post graduate programs out there.
Besides getting offers from Iowa, Minnesota, and Delaware, Coleman had at some point been recruited by North Carolina, Wake Forest, Connecticut, Miami (Ohio), South Florida, Army and Duke.

Pahokee cornerback Jarvis Byrd is emerging in the recruiting process.
Byrd is a 5-foot-10, 180-pound senior who has verbally committed to North Carolina State. Since his commitment, he has picked up offers from fellow ACC schools Florida State and Wake Forest. Prior to N.C. State getting involved with Byrd, he had offers from Troy and Southern Miss.
"I'm real surprised everybody started paying attention to me after I committed," Byrd said.
Byrd helped lead Pahokee to its third straight Class 2B state championship Saturday and is one of Pahokee's top playmakers. He is a physical cornerback with 4.5 speed in the 40-yard dash. This season, Byrd racked up more than 60 tackles along with an interception, 15 pass breakups, three sacks, three blocked punts, two blocked fields goals, four forced fumbles and two recoveries.
"A lot of teams show me a lot of respect," Byrd said.
"I usually only get thrown at once or twice a game."
Florida State recently offered Byrd, which will make his decision tough, considering FSU was the school he grew up rooting for.
"That is going to make it hard for me," Byrd said. "N.C. State is still my No. 1 team right now because they are the first big school that offered me so I'm still committed to them. But I'm telling you, it's going to be a big decision for me."
Byrd, who has visited Wake Forest and Alabama State, will visit N.C. State Jan. 9 and FSU on Jan. 16.
Two of Byrd's teammates are looking to take visits in January as well. Safety Carlos Lammons is considering taking an official visit to Middle Tennessee State, Buffalo, Pittsburgh and Indiana. Cornerback Willie Hickman said he will take official visits to Indiana, FAU and Minnesota.
Atlantic cornerback Jayron Hosley is another prospect in Palm Beach County who has seen his stock rise in the last couple of months.
Hosley, the fourth-ranked prospect in the county, took an official visit to Louisville in September and appeared to be the front-runner.
However, since then, Hosley has picked up offers from Ohio State and Michigan.
He is scheduled to visit Michigan on Jan. 16, South Florida on Jan. 23 and Clemson on Jan. 30.
He will have one visit remaining, which he could keep open for Ohio State, Vanderbilt or another school that gets on him late.
Boynton Beach wide receiver Eddie Weal is a prospect to keep an eye on in as he is likely headed to East Mississippi Community College.
Weal, a 5-11, 165-pound speedster, was among the top receivers in Palm Beach this year as he caught 41 passes for 589 yards and seven touchdowns.
Weal, who will be participating in the FACA North-South game Dec. 23 in Sebring, had interest from a number of big-time colleges, but is headed to the junior college route." |

Quote : | "Busy N.C. State added another player to its 2009 recruiting class yesterday when safety Donald Coleman of Detroit committed. Coleman (6-0, 210) is currently a post-graduate student at the Hun School in Princeton, N.J.
Coleman also had scholarship offers from Minnesota, Iowa and Delaware but said one reason he picked N.C. State was because he sees a championship program developing under Coach Tom O'Brien.
"I truly believe with Coach O'Brien's track record we're going to have a national program soon," Coleman said. "I believe we're going to win the national championship in my time at N.C. State."
Coleman, the Wolfpack's 22nd commitment, had 75 tackles and one interception this season, forced five fumbles and recovered them all and returned one of the recoveries for a touchdown. He also rushed for 800 yards and scored seven touchdowns at running back and has been timed at 4.46 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
"When I get to N.C. State I'm going to bring hitting ability," Coleman said. "It's my strength as a player. I want to get out there as fast as I can and help the team."" |

While it's still early in the week at the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas, one player who has caught the eye of Rivals.com recruiting analysts is tight end Asa Watson of Rock Hill (S.C.). Watson is the brother of New England Patriot tight end Ben Watson.
Watson (6-4/210 pounds) has a good frame to work with, and he believes he brings a lot of positives to the table.
"I would say my speed; it is around a 4.6, but I practice at full speed all the time," he said. "If I'm being a critic, then I'd say I need to work on my blocking. I need to put weight on in order to have more power."
While he's only a two-star prospect, schools from the ACC and SEC have been working him hard.
"I have narrowed it down to three schools — Duke, N.C. State and Maryland," Watson said. "They have all offered. I have January visits set up to N.C. State, and I'm working on a visit to Maryland. I already visited Duke on Dec. 5."" |
Picking up Watson would be great. I wonder if that's a typo or if that's true when it says visits, as in he'd visit us multiple times.12/18/2008 5:03:28 PM |

Some of our current guys will probably enroll early and go against last year's total.
I don't really see us having a shot with any 4 or 5 star players left. Our best shot are some quality 3-star OL.
X. Nixon has narrowed his list to Miami, Florida, and LSU. Just glad to see UNC off that list.
I think we're just trying to round out the class with a few OL now(namely Wentz at C).
Now I'm just ready to wrap up this class and start looking at next year's class. I'm pretty comfortable with what we have right now. 12/19/2008 11:04:07 AM |

I'd like to land Christophe. Dude is physically similar to Xavier Nixon. I think right now we are top 2 with Louisville. Getting a true center and not a converted guard or tackle would be great. Wentz seems like he'd be a good pickup. I also think we'll take a commitment from Jairus Jones. It seems the staff is pretty high on him. 12/19/2008 11:12:37 AM |

Don't think this is really going to happen. Based on what's been said on the premium boards, TOB likes to have recruiting wrapped up and not go into NSD with questions.
I think the potential defectors are Jarvis Byrd (FSU) and someone mentioned that AJ Ferguson is open but I haven't seen that article. Ferguson may not qualify, but I think he's the only ? mark right now.12/19/2008 11:14:40 AM |
