There is always a built in advantage for newer coaches and coaches who turn a bad team around...

No telling how it turns out. Everyone was pumped about Sid after that first tournament win in Orlando and the NIT run. I'd say that Gottfried is just happy to have a job at a major program again after the way his time at his alma mater ended.

^^^you could say that about every coach in america though, even some of the ones who are coaching at their alma mater. I HOPE he stays around for awhile, but I'd be ecstatic just to have him do god enough to get calls form ucla

and I don't think it's fake at all, I feel like he wants to be here or why else would he be here? he was making a good chunk of money doing a lot less the past few years

Yeah, but alabama is no longer paying him. I think that's the whole reason he was doing the espn thing for a couple years. If he had gotten another coaching gig he wouldn't get diddly squat from them.

Need to win all of our home games against the non-Duke, non-UNC teams.

Might be able to steal one against UNC since they aren't as awesome as Duke from 3 point land, and we are rebounding better. Lorenzo will need to embarrass Kendall, and Leslie has to somehow hold his own against Zeller and Henson.

Until we get a legit BIG, Henson will own us every time. Leslie and crew couldn't do squat against them last year. Just too much of a length differential.

But here's to hoping that we do respectably against them at the least, and win out against most of our ACC foe.

^^Looking too far ahead here, but whatever ... Against UNC, we basically need to forget trying to score from the post. Henson and Zeller will murder us down there. We can hold our own defensively on the interior, but I don't want Howell, Leslie, etc getting embarrassed on the offensive end.

Just like last year, Zo will need to break Marshall down off the dribble and look to score or kick it out for a jumper. Seems like last time we played, Lowe basically let Zo drive and dish at-will in the 2nd half. He was basically unstoppable ... just too bad we had dug ourselves into a giant hole for it to make a difference.

My only real issue with him is his refusal to break momentum with timeouts. We're just not good enough to let teams pull way ahead with huge uninterrupted runs. It cost us a chance to beat Syracuse, and it killed us tonight.

Still credible, but I have no idea why our perimeter defense is so terrible. Our guys are getting sucked too far under the basket and leaving shooters wide open. Also, going under every screen doesn't help.

We're not the quickest team defensively, but we sure as hell aren't the slowest. Something's really wrong there.

He's obviously not going to get a top tier job if he can't win big at NC State.

NC State is a destination job. If you can't win here you can't win anywhere (see: Arizona State).

NC state is a tough job because there are high expectations and it's not an easy to win place like UNC, Kentucky, etc...

But a good coach will win here. We've just been very unfortuate in not having a good coach the last 20 years.

Gottfried is showing high level recruiting ability but so far he hasn't been able to communicate the "winning" attitude with our players.

Maybe this changes when he "gets his own players" blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

But it hasn't happened yet. That is inarguable. Very disappointing season for the Wolfpack again...

You are a fucking retard. That is as simple as it can get. How on earth can you call this season "very disappointing"? So far we have had one unexpected meltdown loss and that was the one last night. From the beginning of the season I am pretty sure everyone but the most insane knew that this team was likely an NIT team at best. Rally and his mouth breathing rabble rousing ITT
Our defense sucks because we have absolutely NO speed at guard (with the possible exception of Zo). Our guards can get drawn out on the perimeter and beaten off the dribble which is why we tend to play off of people and contest late.
