Gotta give props to Chipper for having the balls to call out the shitty umpiring lately. Most of these guys have the Eric Gregg disease when they see a Brave batter step in the batter's box. Too bad Chipper will only get more shitty calls now that he expressed his frustration. 9/5/2007 6:40:05 PM |

I went back and watched the at bat he was referring. The first strike is absolutely horrendous. From the point where it begins to break, it's a ball, and it ends up a foot or more inside. He had a point at least with that one. 9/5/2007 8:01:13 PM |

^ Agreed. I have never seen a team as frustrating as this one. Some games they look like world beaters and other games, they couldn't beat the Nationals AAA team.
I do believe that if Renteria hadn't got hurt and then hurt again, they'd be right there with the Padres. That is a mute point now, but God this team is so frustrating to watch. You never know if they are going to win 10-2 or lose 5-1.
I'm just glad that the Andruw Jones horror show will be over soon and we won't have to watch his ass hack away at balls that land 5 ft in front of the plate or balls that are three ft outside anymore. I do hope he lands in the AL and plays well though because he still can be a HOFer. 9/12/2007 12:12:32 PM |

Good God the umpiring sucked huge balls last night for both sides. Bruce fatass Froemming was so fucking inconsistent I wanted to punch the TV. One inning he wouldn't call shit for Maine and then later in the game he is calling strikes against Andruw that are basically in the dirt. What sucked was that the Andruw AB was in the top of the 8th with two on and the score tied.
Oh well the Braves season is fucking over. I still feel bad for Smoltz because the rest of the team has basically quit caring, but he continues to deliver quality start after quality start. 9/13/2007 12:40:20 PM |

BTT for the 81st win meaning we'll finish no worse than .500 this year. Go Phillies until the Braves arrive next week.
Smoltz with another gem today - one hitter into the 8th (granted it was a two run bomb by Hardy). He gave up another hit in the 8th. You could tell he was hurting too, but he still made it through 8.
Too bad the Braves couldn't get him his 15th W. Oh well I am glad they won and that Devine got a W. Despite the disappointment in the season, the Braves do have some positives at the end of the season.
1. The young pitchers like Jo Jo Reyes, Devine, Ascencio, Acosta have pitched relatively well recently and the Braves are going to keep Mahay for next year so the bullpen should be better next year assuming Gonzalez is ready and Soriano, Villareal, and Moylan all are back.
2. The lineup will be strong in '08 (Frenchy = sleeper MVP) and it's looking more and more like Andruw is going to sign a one year deal with the Braves in hopes of improving his FA value for 2009. Andruw has got to play better next year - right? Please God???
3. Renteria will likely be trade bait for a SP. Garland's name keeps getting thrown around. That'll make RoyalFlush happier than a pig in shit. Escobar needs a place to play and the Braves obviously need SPing.
4. Hampton's rehab is going well, but we've heard this story before.
The only thing I worry about in 2008 is that the Mets and Phillies will both be as strong, if not stronger, baring any injuries.

^ Yeah the Braves pretty much clinched it for the Cubbies with the two comeback wins this weekend. If the Braves can't win it all this year, I'll be rooting for the Cubs.
BTTT
for the surprisingly big series starting tonight against the Phillies. Braves only 3 out in the wild card now being led by the Phils and the fading Padres. Rockies are obviously still ahead of the Braves as well.
Braves pretty much have to sweep the Phils and go 5-1 or better this week. Stranger things have happened so I'm keeping the faith. I am pleased that if nothing else, they get a chance to play spoiler this year. Please keep losing Mets.... 9/25/2007 11:29:16 AM |

If the Braves somehow (please God) make the playoffs, they are actually suited well for a three game set with the new day in between each game rules. Both Smoltz and Hudson could in theory pitch two games each in a 5 game series.
As for a seven game series, they'd obviously need James or Cormier or someone to pull out a victory. Their lineup, especially with Chipper, Tex, and Renteria wearing down pitchers, should do well. 9/25/2007 5:20:45 PM |

i'm torn really
if the braves win tonight, i'll be pulling for them to sweep the phils and finish strong even though we have basically no chance
if the phils win tonight, it will officially kill any chance the braves have at the wild card, so i'll pull for the bad guys
basically i just want to see the mets collapse 9/25/2007 5:29:30 PM |
rflong All American 11472 Posts user info edit post |
^ I agree. But if the Braves do somehow sweep the Phils, it sets up well for them to possibly overtake the Padres too since SD closes the season against the Brewers. The Rockies would have to have a bad week as well though.
Either way I hope the Mets go 0-6 to end the season and that all of their pitchers except Glavine, hurt themselves and need Tommy John surgey. Well all except Pelfry. He can keep giving up 6 runs in 3 innings each start.
Oh yeah, word is the Braves are going to try and get Glavine this offseason. Hopefully he declines his player option, signs with the Braves for atleast 08, and retires with his true team.

^^ Shut up. You are still going to the playoffs even though you deserve a playoff spot about as much as the fucking Cardinals did last year.
I cannot believe the Giants blew that four run lead last night
Braves should only be two games out, but fuck you Brian Giles and your lucky bullshit homerun.
Braves need the Padres to lose the rest of the season now and pretty much have to go undefeated. Last night was almost a perfect night = Braves win, Mets lose, Phils lose, Padres should have lost, Rockies almost lost.
I hate having to root for shit teams like the Nats and Giants. 9/26/2007 10:02:13 AM |
