I still believe that this team, more properly conditioned and managed (coaching/conditioning) could be in the upper half of the ACC right now...

I should get my dick sucked for starting a 100 page thread in sports talk.

The first two pages is idiot fest. People trying to bash me for seeing the future.

Sid is a shitty coach, the quicker this clownfest alumni realizes that the better.

Oh no I'm predicting the future again. This thread is only 37 pages not 100.....

Kinda like we were 4-4. And kinda like we only lost on a fluke bank shot.

NC State is a homo school.

i can't think of any coaches out there that would jump at a job where they'll be expected to compete with duke and unc in under 2 years with another coach's players.

if we still look like this in 2-3 years, then shit i'll be right there with you calling for sidney's head. but right now i still think it's too early to give up on him. i'm not saying give him 10 years w/no results, just give him more than 2.

he'll get two, if you ask me.

especially if he has a decent 09 class coming in. 09 class will define his tenure.

I think 5 years is the perfect amount of time for the situation to extend or terminate sid's contract. After 5 years he'll have all his own recruited players and should have senior leadership with his players. If he cant get the job done after that then he's out the door. Like it was said, if we jump the gun and fire him after next year or possibly the year after, no coach is going to want to try their luck here with all that pressure

although if next season continues the way this one did i would want him gone. but i know it will never happen, especially if the 09 class is touted as our savior

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, we just blown out by UVA and FSU. We're the worst team in the ACC. Compete with UNC and Duke? We're not even competing with bottom feeders right now.

Wait for Sid to get his own players?

One moment..

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

Have you seen next years recruiting class?

As for the "nobody wants to coach here" argument. Shut the fuck up. Seriously. There's a fuckton of mid tier and div II coaches that want to come coach Div I ACC basketball and we only offered the job to clown shoes because Fowler got emo about being publicly rejected by nigs he didn't have the skill to land.

"SG: We saw this happen to Rick Pitino in Boston. It's VERY easy to figure out when an NBA team has quit on its coach. You know right away. The players have no energy and no connection to each other. The coach sits there listlessly on the bench and looking like he's undergoing a chemo treatment every game. Guys are arguing in huddles and on the court. The team gets blown out at home a disproportionate amount of time. Everyone sitting in the stands is asking questions about their best guys like, "Wait, is he stoned?" and "You don't think he's shaving points, right?" The coach starts clinging to that "We didn't compete tonight" rhetoric, which sounds like a great excuse until you remember he's the guy who's supposed to get everyone competing. I mean, you know when the wheels come off with an NBA coach."

Now, replace "Rick Pitino in Boston" with "Sidney Lowe at NC State" and "NBA" with "NCAA". This is exactly the situation we're in, right down to the excuses after the game.

Maryland hasn't gotten past the 2nd round of the NCAA tourney in 5 years and hasn't made the tourney 2 out of the last 3 years.

Duke leads overall series against Maryland 101-58.

UNC leads overall series against Maryland 113-53.

From a neutral perspective, I find it comical Herb got NCSU to the tourney consistently and was hated because he couldnt beat UNC, but Lowe is a hero for beating UNC once while his team sits in last place.

Priorities ftw

^^The sad part is some people are still going to use that "logic" and declare the season not being a bust if we by some miracle beat Duke on Saturday.

(in honesty, this could be the worst blowout of the year, even worse than the first UNC game. i don't care of the spread is 30 points, I would take the over)

gary williams has won the last five of eight against duke.

i don't know maryland's record against unc in the past five-ten years but i think it's pretty competetive.

oh and gary williams won a national championship not too long ago, guy.

phried: I was referring to what State was expected to do this season. Obviously a win over unc/duke is welcome, but no one expects us to compete with them regularly yet. The preseason expectation was to play hard and make it into the NCAA tournament (putting aside gavin's zany claims). The expectations would be higher for beating duke/unc further on down the road once Sidney builds the program.

We had higher expectations with Herb because he was here so long. He got to the NCAA's regularly but didn't improve on that success. People hope that Sidney will get us there eventually and take it even further than Herb did...

of course now, who knows what to expect... but talking about Herb is kinda moot & stupid at this point.

The blame game begins.
Quote :
"Chip Alexander, Staff Writer
RALEIGH - N.C. State coach Sidney Lowe had a ready explanation for why the Pack got off to such a terrible start against Florida State, eventually losing 72-62 Wednesday night.
"I thought our starters were just awful," Lowe said.

Saying that meant Lowe was pointing the finger at J.J. Hickson, Courtney Fells, Javi Gonzalez, Gavin Grant and Ben McCauley. That was the starting group when the Seminoles scored the game's first 10 points, seizing a lead they would never lose at the RBC Center.

Even after Lowe substituted Brandon Costner and Marques Johnson for McCauley and Gonzalez, the Seminoles (17-12, 6-8 ACC) scored the next basket for a 12-0 lead. Hickson converted a three-point play with 14:53 left in the half for State's first points, but FSU raced on to a 25-6 lead, leaving a partisan crowd of 14,109 stunned and silent.

"I thought they were awful," Lowe said again. "We came out and missed a couple of wide-open shots and really didn't pick it up on the defensive end.

"We're back at home, in our building, [with] a chance to get us a win. And we didn't have that thing we were looking for -- that group. As a group they were bad, so we had to go to the bench.

"You've got to kind of call it the way you see it. That's the way it was."

As for Lowe's assessment of himself and the Wolfpack coaching staff, there wasn't the same degree of criticism, even after State (15-13, 4-10) lost its sixth straight game, looking more and more like a team ready to put away the balls and call it a season.

"We do everything we can to have these guys ready to play," Lowe said of the staff. "We prepare. We have strategies.

"We can't rebound. We can't make the shots. We can't get in front of a guy to defend them. So, strategy-wise, I think we prepare 'em pretty good."

Lowe talked of how the staff worked with the players on how to defend FSU guards Toney Douglas and Jason Rich coming off high ball screens. Instead, Douglas worked off the screens well enough to score 20, and Rich had 21.

Lowe said it was no different than when he played at State and his coach, the late Jim Valvano, gave them the game plan.

"Then we had to go out and do it," he said. "This is not something where I'm calling out my players or anything like that. I'm just saying this was a bad game for us."

A bad game for the players, or for the coaches and players?

"It was a bad game for our players," Lowe said. "We're the team. It was a bad game for us.

"But you're asking what happened out there, we missed a couple of open shots early, we didn't get stops defensively, they got offensive rebounds and that was it. ... It's a team effort, and we just didn't have it."

Johnson said Lowe gave the team a pep talk before the game. He talked of the importance of ending the losing streak, of building momentum for the ACC Tournament, of winning for the fans.

"All I can do is apologize to the fans," the sophomore guard said. "I don't know what it is -- we're not playing hard or something."

Trevor Ferguson and Tracy Smith played hard. Ferguson came off the bench in the first half to drain three 3-pointers and help the Pack trim FSU's lead to 32-24 at the break.

Ferguson, a sophomore guard, finished with a career-high 17 points in 21 minutes. Smith, a strong 6-foot-7 freshman, had 11 points, all in the second half.

"We tried to let those guys play as much as we could because they had energy, and they were executing and defending and doing what we asked them to do," Lowe said.

The Noles, winning their third straight game, had a decisive edge in points off turnovers (18) and second-chance points (15), grabbing 13 offensive rebounds. State had just three points off FSU's six turnovers and five second-chance points.

The Pack pulled to 34-32 early in the second half on back-to-back 3s by Fells (12 points).

But Douglas soon took charge, scoring eight straight points and 11 of FSU's 14 in a five-minute span.

State trailed 52-49 with eight minutes left, only to turn the ball over on four of five possessions. A 10-0 run by the Noles sealed it.

What's left for the Pack? What can be done?

"You keep working," Lowe said. "Let's go on to the next one and try to have a better performance. That's it."
