We actually decided to purchase a suit for my fiance at Mens Wearhouse. Turns out the one we liked the most was by one get one free, so we got his brothers suit for the wedding for free! (We were going to pay for it for him anyway, so it really was just a bonus for us... plus he gets a free suit out of it.)

I'd recommend MW on the service we got alone, but I doubt many of yall will be shopping at the location we used in NY. Their selection is really great though (at least I thought so), especially since we weren't going for the typically tux or black or blue suit.

Here's the pic from the store:

and this is the pic from their website (I add it here just because the one above is too dim to see the color well):

Yea we had to shell out several hundred for it, but both him and his brother are getting nice suits that can be used for plenty of other occasions.

now that we're on suits....
i'm gonna let the groomsmen and usher pick out one they like, as long as it goes well together (like the bridesmaids). but i'm having a hard time finding the styles i like.
actually let me rephrase that-i'm not sure where to start.
this is a new frontier for me

something along the lines of this....

should men's warehouse be good???
anyone have any recommendations in general?

my experiences have led me to believe that men's wearhouse has the best selection (polyester to wool, many colors and styles) and a wide price range (~$130 to $600+)

that said, i hardly ever wear suits...i have a several-hundred-dollar charcoal/black pinstripe wool from MW and a black polyester from target that cost a whopping $50 on sale

i had to have them both tailored to fit well (another $50/each), but i really like them both equally...i suppose i don't wear them often enough to know which will hold up longer

i like that idea. Think it looks hot and not so 1980's. Not even sure what that means, I just hate bridal party photos because they all look like

I'm leaving this one completely up to occamsrezr. He knows what he's comfortable in and what looks good for suits much more than I do. He knows what color the bridesmaids dresses are going to be so he can decide from there what he wants his guys wearing. I won't even see what he picked out until the day of the wedding.

At my wedding the groomsmen wore khaki dress pants with a white button up dress shirt. Part of the groomsmen gifts was a sage and white stripped tie to wear. They also all wore sperrys. It was an easy and affordable combo that fit the venue well.

It's not wedding planning, per se

But it's a natural extension of the etiquettehell.com link from above (In fact, I suggested she submit this shit to EH)

mine may look like that, too...i think the less common ideas are cool, too, but they're hardly unique..."retro" style weddings are just as "played out" as classic style, if you can call a wedding played out at all

i attended a wedding in durham (at the green wall in downtown) a few months ago where the bride and groom were dressed as pac-man and the attendants were ghosts...no lie...all of the costumes were home-made, too

that is far more unique than anything mentioned in this thread...classic is classic for a reason and i'm okay with whatever anyone wants to do on their special day

I'm trying to convince Eric to not have his groomsmen rent tuxes... first off, it'll be outside in May. Second of all, I think it would look weird if all his groomsmen were in tuxes and my girls look similar to:

(aka non-matching and not prim and proper)

any ideas on what I could suggest for the groomsmen? I was thinking just a gray suit they have or a black suit they have.. that way they're non-matching too but still look nice

My bridesmaids will be non-matching too. I just told them to go out and find an aqua or red dress.

occamsrezr mentioned doing some sort of slacks and a buttoned shirt. I know for a fact they will be getting ties from Cyberoptixs.

i think that would work out well as long as none of them look exactly alike (or if they do, that they're separated)

i really like the idea of the women wearing slightly differing shades of the same color, especially if the dresses are slightly different...the men can be the same way, but i think the whole thing only works out really well if they're all SIMILAR...too much variation is detracting, IMO

I love the non-matching look, especially on the blonde girls with the tan/champagne dresses....SO CLASSY. Here's a friend of mine and her "non-matching" little black dresses.
I am strongly leaning towards this with emerald green and aqua jewelry since those are my colors.

The bubbles look awesome with the jewelry here too.

wolfpackgrrl, I, too, was going to do red and aqua...love that color combo! Show some pics of how it turns out. I am excited to see

i just wanted to add i don't think anyone here is claiming to be "unique" in their planning
i know im not.

its all about what you want to do.

my main concern for the attendants (which by the way have changed to maid of honor, man of honor, best man, and best woman because of a divorce) is that they are comfortable.
and they like what they are wearing.
if someone doesn't like the way they look - it shows.
combine that with the fact that i have no problem being upstaged by the bridesmaids (bad term but i'm just saying that i have no qualms if they look better than i do, which is a good possibility with both of them! theyre gorgeous!) and there we have it....everyone picks out what they want to wear.
we'll pay for it and maybe they can use it again

^^and the felt flowers are AWESOME!

ive been to weddings where groomsman were told to wear khaki pants and someone showed up in cargos.

paying for the groomsman and bridesmaid outfits is a good gesture i think. i know i couldnt swing that though. this wedding is more expensive than i imagined it would be already.

ah, we have 5 groomsman and 5 bridesmaids.

so for tuxedos i put those 5, myself, 3 brothers, 2 fathers, and 1 grandfather all have rentals.

i think our problem was not having a budget at the start of the wedding planning

purple and green

everyone has black tuxedos...
i have a white vest, wing collar shirt, and euro tie (not into the bow tie thing but i did like the wing collar)
groomsman have a purple vest and tie
brothers, fathers, and grandfather have a black vest and tie
the bridesmaids are wearing purple and the maid of honor has a different purple dress from the other bridesmaids

gimme about 2 weeks and you can see pictures

most of the green will come from decorations.
we put over 5k into flowers

we also hired 2 DJs, 2 photographers, a wedding planner, and a string trio learning songs that i provided sheet music for.

^i agree. we're gonna have to thicken your skin quagmire02
you are gonna have people not like the things you do, regardless of what it is.
but that doesn't mean your idea is any less special or inferior

also GKMatt
purple and green? i really want to see the pics. that sounds like it could be really awesome

i just wanted to add:
i hate this

and my inspirations for bridesmaids have been these pics:

the last pic isn't very representative, but it gets the idea across. i would like for the dresses to be a little more formal, flowy, and vinatage-y. (think lacey!) like these: (but in white/cream/ivory of course!)

and although not what i'm going for....i also think this is really cute:

i also hate the one with the bright color all different colored dresses

i don't mind mismatching

i don't mind different colors

i want it to go together i think even if its different shades of the same colors or 2 complimentary colors or whatever - i want it to flow - that bright neon dress pic just doesn't flow for me. i dunno. maybe its the style of dress, too. i even know someone who did something similar with pastels and i wanted to vomit. then again pastels aren't 100% my thing. i'm down with maybe a sage or pastel green. but throw the pink and blue and yellow in there and i'm just ill. haha

also, i'd like to see someone in real life do something with umbrellas because all the pics in this thread with sun umbrellas have been cute!

i LOVE the pics you posted Joie but i especially love that pinky/coral/salmon?/whatever color in the bottom pics that is on the white dresses. that color is pretty. and i agree while the whole look isn't really my taste i think its super cute. but i just really love that color. and its so perfect for the beach!

yea i don't dig white dresses for bridesmaids either

i don't mind a light neutral color though like the non matching champagne colored dresses someone (Sam i think) posted up there!

but i like color, too. but on the other hand i'm kind of terrified of color (like that for me i'd fuck it up and it'd be really scary and too vibrant haha, but i LOVE other people's colorful weddings. i just feel like i would pick hideous colors or something)

i DO like the aqua and red that you guys are doing and i'm REALLY curious to see pictures from the person who posted about emerald green and aqua. it sounds cool i just can't picture it in my mind!

(i mean i'm not even engaged but since i LOVE this thread by the time that comes i'm going to have all my ideas and know all the secrets haha )

^YAY

another reason i really wanted to go for white is because it would be hard to pair with what the guys will wear... which is a combo of this

plus this

except i will not make them wear all the same colors or anything, once again they'll get to pick out what they like and are most comfortable with.
with the guys being so damn colorful anyway it seems appropriate to have white bridesmaid dresses i think

i agree with LK

i think white looks pretty/clean

i posted i didn't dig white but i kinda meant personally not like for other people i mean personally for me i don't think i'd have white i think i'd have something else (but as said earlier i'm a fan of the champagne color which is still pretty light for bridesmaid dresses - for some people anyway). i mean really, i don't want a white dress for ME...much rather have an off-white or something not stark white. i dunno what my personal prob with white is haha.

but i think it can still look pretty and i'm totally down with it in other people's weddings

PLUS i agree that with your boy outfits (or ideal boy outfits), white will look fantastic.

Wow! Thanks for posting the info on Men's Wearhouse above.

I grudgingly went suit shopping yesterday for my wedding after looking at this thread and decided to check out MW.

I left wholly impressed:

Dude took my measurements seconds after I walked in the door.
The buy-one-get-one-free deal is money--a few hundred bucks for two suits that will last me years.
Sales associates work together to expedite the process. One dude was pulling shirt/tie combos for me while the another was marking my hem lines.
All in all, I was in and out of there in an hour and twenty minutes, [/suit shopping]

I only wish shopping for normal clothes was that easy.

i just wanted to say that it is official.
i have the best bridesmaids ever (well one is the best woman for cody but for simplicity i am still just calling both of them bridesmaids)
they may not be able to throw parties and what not (both are out of town and are really, really, really busy) but they are the closest thing to sisters ive ever had
i love them.
i couldn't be happier with the decision to have them in the wedding.
