Yep I got a friend in DC and he's saying pretty much the same. Anywhere from a couple inches to a foot o more. Crazy. He says apparently there's still a lot of uncertainty about it

I will have to tune out all the naysayers tomorrow at work assuming the precip to the south of us on Tuesday is the main system in the midst of a bust. They are the same folks headed for the doors as soon as flakes started falling this afternoon.

Sounds like consensus is this won't be a snow event in Raleigh really after a casual glance at evening/overnight stuff. Lots of freezing rain though and ice.

Where are you seeing that? NWS Raleigh says it will be a significant storm for Raleigh with a few inches of snow and a quarter inch of ice. If it shifts one way we get more snow, the other and we get more ice. Either way, NWS says it will be significant and disruptive.

tl;dr NWS Raleigh says "significant, if not crippling"

Yeah, I'm still seeing a split in consensus. No one seem to be able to agree on what is going to happen here in Raleigh across the next 48 hours.

Just from the trends and whatnot. I'm not an expert or anything.

I only really even check in when the models update every six hours and it seems there is more mixing even in CLT and Greensboro which obviously isn't good news for here being further east.

Too far north today. Let the disappointment begin. Already pushed time frame back to where we will likely have to work tomorrow so already a bust in my book

Then why is every major news network forecast (as well as TWC's) now predicting 2-6" of snow plus up to 1/2" inch of ice, whereas just mid-day yesterday they wouldn't predict anything.

What's the appeal of shitting on snow predictions? Is being cynical that fun?

It's just an opinion and it's not shitting on it. Again I'm not even a novice let alone an expert.

Look at RaleighWx's latest tweets.

I also think in the end raleigh is gonna end up in the shit spot of the storm. If you have to travel this week though that is considered the good spot. Big snows to our west and north, nasty freezing rain to our south and east. Bit of snow, mostly sleet, bit of freezing rain in our area. This is just one of those years where Raleigh is always just a bit too far (insert direction here) for storms.

Looks like my plan to not be here tomorrow is out the window so now hoping it will be enough to justify an ice day on Thursday. In the end, if it comes to sleet or freezing rain though, I'm fine with sleet because I like having power.

In 2000 Raleigh pulled 20 inches from this same sort of setup. We won't know the exact track of this low until it forms and the smallest change in that track can greatly affect precip types/amounts

Huffman just updated his map and we are still in the "you're fucked" zone of 3-5" of snow and .5-1" of ice so I guess since I trust him for winter forecasts more than myself I retract my last statement.

I looked at RaleighWX's twitter, he has the same general consensus, few inches of snow followed by a lot of sleet.

We just have to keep hoping it tracks more to the east. We're right in the "oh shit" line where you can either have an awesome amount of snow(esp. if it tracks quite a bit east) or a ton of shitty ice(if it tracks just a tad West). Currently imagine we'll see a little snow and a little ice on top of it.

We are southeast of the J region and it's coming down pretty hard right now. There's already an inch or two out there.

Yeah I saw the huge northwest shift, looks like we might completely avoid this. Wow, talk about an epic bust, haha. Guess I'd rather completely miss it than get an inch of ice.

Reporting in from uptown Charlotte and it's coming down at a good pace now. Started coming down here about 20 minutes ago and has picked up significantly already.

Looks like this system is going to pass south of Raleigh, and that the Raleigh dome is in full effect. This is just based on weather.com's radar.

If so that would be nice. Snow? Sure. 0.5 - 1.0 inches of freezing rain, say goodbye to electricity for a few weeks.

^ There's only one system that I can see anywhere right now, and its the huge one moving east and passing to the south of us. Is it supposed to take a turn to the north soon?

If this is the appetizer, the 8-9 inch predictions for Charlotte may actually materialize. Still coming down heavy, but doesn't appear to be sticking in uptown Charlotte though.
