Hopefully Netherlands wins and we get a Brazil vs Argentina 3rd place game. That would be entertaining.

One can't help but feel sorry for Brazil. Any football fan would tell you this isn't supposed to happen. The Brazilian National team is the most sacred entity in Sports. Watching today's game was like watching a holy shrine being vandalized.

I think I'm the only one who doesn't feel that way. But, full disclosure, I swore my childhood allegiance to Argentina.

But even still, Brazil has absolutely dominated world soccer tournaments for decades, now. Not just world cups, but time and time again, they coast through tournaments like Copa America or even Confed Cups by not playing to their full potential and still come out on top. I can't tell you how many times I have seen Brazil not send their best starting 11 to Copa America and still beat other South American sides who send their best squads. It's kind of satisfying seeing them finally get embarrassed, I have to admit. They looked poor all tournament, but they still find ways to win despite their poor play. They looked average against Mexico, and probably shouldn't have beaten Chile. Yet they still made it to the semi-finals. It's rewarding seeing them get thumped by a German squad that has done everything right for the past decade (but has failed to win the ultimate prize).

The Maracanazo in 1950 and now this (and this game today will also live for 64 years, at least). Brazil's never going to host the World Cup again.

Listened to a BBC podcast and a Guardian podcast reviewing the game. Both had different Brazilian pundits on and both independently stated the same thing: that Brazilian soccer needed this humiliation because the game there is ran in an incredibly shit fashion, the Brasilerao has declined mightily in quality because everyone has left, the development of players and coaches is poor, the attitudes of players, coaches, and administration is wrong, etc.

Lol at Brazil press naming David Luiz MotM. I guess a good cry wipes out what was one of the worst defensive displays a person has ever had. His heatmap is that of basically a box to box midfielder.

I still can't believe those god damn idiots in Paris gave Chelsea so much money to improve there team for a third choice "CB." Stinks of oil money collusion.

He was overpaid as hell, but he's still a dynamic player that could get in pretty much any side in the world.

You make him sound like shit.

That's the thing, he isn't a very good CB. He couldn't get in over Cahill regularly and while Cahill is good he is far from a world beater.

Luiz plays more like a DM, which is fine... But not what PSG bought him for.

I watched this last night after I got home then I watched the 10-40 minute stretch again as soon as I was done just to see what a team that completely quit looked like. Once they went down 2-0 they knew they were done and it showed. Most professional teams at least attempt to keep playing for pride, but that was just embarrassing. I get all the pressure and then losing Silva and Neymar to make matters worse, but damn have some pride in your country. By the end of the game to hear all the booing and brazil fans cheering Germany says it all.

If I were president of the CBF (Brazilian football federation), I would declare that none of the starting 10 field players will ever wear the gold and blue again. I think that's really the only thing they can do to appease the Brazilian population after yesterday.

Messi has had some shit-tastic balls on these set-pieces.

Romero sure doesn't like catching the ball in traffic. That's a ball-punching mofo.

Lulzz I'll bite, Wenger was loitering in the beach while LVG took his country to the WC semis. Not the best response, but can we stop with the LVG trolling?

You can't advance twice on penalty kicks. Just can't do it.

I don't remember them making a big deal about it during the game, but Higuain was definitely onside on the called-off goal in the 2nd half.

Makes me feel better about Argentina advancing on PKs. Up until then, I thought it was a fairly even game. I'd give Argentina in the edge in regulation, but Netherlands seemed to have a few more chances in Extra Time. Robben probably should have netted his once chance at the end of regulation...but I guess Palacio should have let the ball come to his feet instead of that weak ass header in extra time as well.

Pretty solid game for a nil-nil result.

Higuain's shot hit the side netting. Didn't go in.

Ref's flag was up for a goal kick.

I may be thinking of another play.

Got every single call all tournament long and still couldnt finish in top three.

Too much Chelsea scum on that team. Fuck them. I hope the Dutch humiliate them.

One more goal from the Dutch and this will turn into another Red Wedding for Brazil.

Also, lol at Fred being left off the pitch. Poor sonofabitch has been on the receiving end of all the Brazilian frustration for their lack of attacking flair this WC cycle.
