haha won my opening match game. ZvP ... went 1 base slingbling and he went fast phoenix.
He was pissed, and now won't report the match score and put me on ignore. lol. 10/27/2010 8:31:10 PM |

Well my main reasoning for doing so was because I had just played a realllly long ZvP game that I lost, so I didn't want to do the same thing again. In the first game I had FEd then scouted a 4 gate and massed roaches early waiting for the push only to have him roll me when I tried to attack which resulted in quite a long game.
Haha well done^ I was just gonna go try and figure out what tournament you had signed up for and sign up myself

Just gave zags the play by play..
I managed to win my first 2 games in the tournament and ended up playing Fenix.
He is really good. I got owned. But what a shitty map draw... steps of war is such a bad zerg map. I tried to go 1 base lings/bling. But he sniffed it out pretty easily and then killed me with a banshee that he got super damn fast. But cool to get to play him at least. Saved the replay as "Fenix Owning Me." His Average APM for the match was 250, mine was 50... just glad the game wasn't casted lol. 10/27/2010 9:32:20 PM |

Having fun doing this vs terrans. What I do is delay building lings to kill their scout until a little bit later then throw out some lings around 18 supply, before I chase their scv out I build a roach warren where I know they will see it then cancel once the scv is out of sight. I then swap to banelings and and go for a bust. This last guy was trying to fast tech to banshees and it caught him completely off guard. So far I've pulled this off twice and both have been easy easy wins, this is at ~1500 diamond, so not that high of a skill level but certainly people who are better/faster then me, I just have to out think them 10/27/2010 10:42:06 PM |

^ I have a similar idea going to start trying. Because Roach is so popular now and people are working so hard to counter that, was thinking about starting to proxy my spire but show the Warren. I typically get one anyone after I go mutas.
Basically flying an early game OL to a spot on the map off and out of the way, send a drone before the lair pops and then dropping creep at the proxy OL and laying the spire. I think it would work well. 10/28/2010 2:20:58 AM |

I think it could work well but I would just be worried putting my spire so far off and having a random observer/medivac fly over it. 10/28/2010 6:47:49 AM |

day9's newbie tuesday is playing a 2v2 where one of your guys gets knocked out early because of a rush. 10/28/2010 9:29:24 AM |

What about a 1v3 where both your teammates get knocked out by a rush? Little does the enemy know they left one of the team mates with 3 stalkers...
I really don't watch too many of the day9 dailys as they are soo long, but this last funday monday had an epic match (second half, second match). He was doing the single unit team battles again and it was ghost/mothership/baneling, it was pretty crazy.
Idra got knocked out, apparently theres a new build floating around consisting of getting three quick overseers to keep contaminating the zergs hatchery, this stops spawn larvae from working and really cuts into the zergs production. Personally I don't really see the damage it could do as it should come after you have a decent amount of drones and you can just transition into a less larvae intensive unit like roach/hydra until you can kill off the overseers. However it did work against idra, but there were bigger mistakes he made in that match. 10/28/2010 9:38:16 AM |

Tried to watch the GSL games but fell asleep so will watch the Idra games tonight. Interested to see what his opponent did in the ZvZ matchup. 10/28/2010 1:06:15 PM |

So I had like 15 minutes today before I had to go, decided to play one 1v1 and either 6 pool or bust depending on map/matchup. Playing on Shakuras (my fav 6 pool map, people who dont realize you cant spawn vertically often waste time scouting) against a toss so I go for the quick pool. The dude scouts me at 7 supply with my pool 75% done. I figure I'm fucked. I get to his base and he has just summoned in 2 gates and a forge at his nat, not blocking anything off. They were all at like 40% completion. So after the autowin (he didnt pull his probes) the dude raged sooo hard about how I was bad for playing with cheese and a 6pool is just a-move. His exact quote was "what kind of zerg builds lings at the start". Turns out hes like 1500 diamond with 400 wins. 10/28/2010 3:56:06 PM |

On Shakuras you can't spawn directly above or below someone, only the opposite corner or horizontal. If i send my overseer to the horizontal position he gets there just in time to see if they are at that spawn, if not I know where they are. It makes it a little different then otther 4 player maps but lots of people still treat it as one and dont expect early rushes. I personally hate the map late game, not due to anything with the map but ive just had bad luck on it lately in long games so I try to end it early. 10/28/2010 6:17:24 PM |

not sure why anyone playing 1v1 on this map would assume their opponent would be anywhere OTHER than opposite-diagonal

titans78 and I played a bunch of 2v2s last night, raping some folks double zerg style. We had a super effective build of early lings/blings then he goes to mutas/roaches while i stay ling/bling. Worked great to knock out one opponent and constantly harass them till we overwhelmed them.
Had some pretty epic banelings, we had this one game against two terrans who were hitting us pretty hard early, we had both just gotten our xpos up and my army consisted of about 16 banelings. I had 10 burrowed near the entrance to our expos and up comes the terran with around 50 marines. Boom, 45 dead marines instantly Also had another nice one where I had my lings in a different control group from my blings, he had a few thors and a ton of marines at his entrance, I ran the lings in right in front of the blings to take the initial hits then burrowed them, blings ran right over and took out all the infantry, lings unburrowed and raped the thors.
Also discovered titans owns me in macro, one game i was at like 50 supply and he was at 150 10/30/2010 11:29:50 AM |

yeah we are rolling now, like 35-15 but will be harder now that we are diamond.
Nice thing with double zerg is how flexible it is in 2v2. Covers the whole spectrum, easy to double FE all the way to double 6 pool. Generally one of us would expand quicker while the other stayed 1 base and put pressure on but we mixed it up. We lost our one double 6 pool attempt.
My favorite game was one where we took out the terran, and the toss went cannons(actually tried to cannon me but zags caught it). So we work to contain him while we expand and I'm trying to scout and see what looks to be a templar build, but then my OL saw a void ray before we saw DTs(keep in mind the guy is one on base). So we both switch to hydras and then dts show up so now I'm just like is he going to make one of every unit? Next thing we know there is another attack with a void ray and a carrier, then a mothership shows up. I really think the guy made 1 of every unit off one base. 10/30/2010 2:28:09 PM |

with the current state of the game, double zerg is very strong. between toss' troubles with muta (especially if they don't have good hand speed) and terrans troubles with early expoing zergs post patch, you'll be able to win a lot of games with 2 competent zergs. 10/30/2010 3:55:47 PM |

How did your tournament go?
Anyone here play much Dota? Or SOTIS whatever its called. I've been playing more of it lately, at first I really liked the goliath with his swarms, but lately I'm loving the stalker. I very rarely see anyone playing him so I wanted to try him out and holy shit does he own. When you get to around level 15 with decent items you can run in and rape their entire team in like 3 seconds flat, I think he has the most unlimited potential of all the characters. 11/1/2010 4:08:19 PM |

i play it wayyy too much, it's hurting my laddering just because I have a million bonus points.
last night I had a game with a guy i play dota with, it was a 5v3 (we were the 3) he was like 14-2-? as the shadow guy, and I was 6-0-like18 (people kept stealing my kills, but they couldn't kill me) as zeratul.
i'm getting pretty good at zeratul, have a pretty solid build and strategy. he's excellent at ganking. 11/1/2010 4:23:45 PM |

Lost in the first round of the tournament to a decent protoss. Actually should have won. He cannoned my natural on scrap so I took the gold without him knowing. Problem was I did a poor job spreading creep and the 2 bases so far apart was hard to rally. He pushed w/ voids and stalkers and I had like 2500 minerals and no units. I just play horrible in these dumb tournaments. 11/1/2010 7:02:59 PM |

Just watched game 1 of fake boxer v kyrix. Good fucking lord. His marine micro is absolutely insane. For one the match is crazy with absolutely non stop action behind both players taking ~4 expands, but he would go into fights against overwhelming odds with just marines/medivacs and completely devastate the zerg. 11/2/2010 8:30:11 PM |

Alright, I played some SC1 but was honestly basically awful at it (comparably atleast, I could obviously beat retards and people who never played) and am just recently getting into SC2 and I suck, but I have a question.
Would I be better off figuring out what race would be best for me (not even sure how I'd go about that) or just playing all of them through my practice matches and deciding then and also getting used to them anyway for when I fight them? 11/2/2010 11:17:46 PM |

also watching the ghosts of coaching showmatch between NonY and Idra, everytime I start to think NonY is losing it like White-Ra has seemingly done (because white-ra got married and I think NonY is engaged or something) he comes back strong. Excellent forcefield control, and impressive blink micro... Basically between him and tester it's what I wish I could do vs. zerg.

titans78 All American 4038 Posts user info edit post |
Yeah I started following that Team Liquid thread about that guys build order optimizer early on and it was really interesting. It comes up with some neat ideas that you'd never think of, like in a lot of builds getting a much earlier pool then you'd normally expect.
The roach build it came up with is something I've used and it works quite well, but you still have to be able to micro the roaches on the ramps and if it doesn't work you are pretty much screwed economically. Zags and I double roach every few games if the map is right and it works well.
As far as being a new player, especially if you weren't great at SC/played it much, I'd say to pick one race and learn it well. Trying to learn the general game mechanics while also trying to learn all 3 races can be tough. I'd say pick toss or terran and then from there once you have the basics of the game itself down(hotkeys, some micro, etc.) move on to learning another race or all of them. 11/3/2010 2:38:00 PM |
dzags18 All American 5694 Posts user info edit post |
I mean the races are really different enough that it doesnt matter too much which one you pick. I was not a SC player by any means when I started SC2. I picked the zerg because I liked their style and at the time they were probably the least popular race. Just pick a race and stick with them for a little while, you will probably lose, but you will at least be able to see whether you like the races mechanics/units. After a while you will start to figure out the race and things will click, you will start getting better. 11/3/2010 4:42:32 PM |

still completely ridiculous that you can dominate gold for as long as I did or silver as long as you did and not get promoted for a long time.
i also need to get around to playing more 1s, as I'm 90% sure I'd get diamond pretty quickly. I don't think it's possible for me to lose a PvT or PvP against <diamond (maybe plat if I screw up) right now, and zergs aren't scary when i'm actually playing well and microing properly
