Quote : | "Dear Mickey : I have been a fan of Clemson football since sometime in the 1970s when I attended my first game in Death Valley. I was a frequent visitor to Clemson throughout the late 70s, and attended Clemson from 1982-1986 attending every single game during my years as a student. I graduated from Clemson in 1986, and continue my support of the Tigers by attending every home game and some away games. If you can’t tell, I’m a pretty big fan. I’m also a Tiger fan who has been around a while, through good times and bad. One of the best things about being ‘old’ is the right to reflect and even lecture a bit about all I’ve seen. For the past few years, I’ve noticed a trend among people attending games at Death Valley that is alarming. But never so alarming as what I witnessed during and after the Miami game on October 3rd. In all my years of attending games at Clemson, one of the things our fans have been very good about is not walking out on the team in their time of need. I remember a game a few years back where Clemson lost the game in the very last seconds of the game. Not only did the fans stay and cheer throughout, even when the game was over, many people stayed in their seats to cheer/support/console. It was almost as if we were all waiting for the clock to restart and the players to run back on the field. Strange as that moment was, it spoke volumes about the Clemson fan. At that time, as we had been all my life, we were proud of our team no matter what. Being a Tiger fan meant something. It was about pride. It was special. We were not the type to walk out on our team like Carolina fans. Fast forward a few years and some turbulent times, and I have grown ashamed of our fans. I’ve noticed a new era of ‘fair weather fan’ that has to stop. In the 3rd quarter of the Miami game last Saturday, I was saddened to see people (mostly students) filing out of their seats to leave the game in disgust. It made me sick to my stomach that these people ‘represent’ our school. I was ashamed to be in their company. These people who are so quick to abandon their team in a time of need should be ashamed of themselves, and if that’s how they feel about their team, perhaps they should become Carolina fans. I, for one, have no use for them.
Best, Kay " |

That means you'll have to find some cool places where the game isn't the only game in town. Places with some night life that doesn't involve funnels, and some green spaces without yard lines painted on them." |

so root against them, and just be like "ah fuck it" if they win 10/9/2010 3:57:47 PM |
