3/10/2022 2:43:35 PM
Just for fun, I'm trying to get an idea of what he was trying to say, but I'm having trouble. Is he saying that the Deep State is propagating this war for the purpose of making Russian Oil scarce and therefore pushing a windmill energy agenda? And if tensions escalate, we're "playing right into [Deep State's] hands" of green energy?
3/10/2022 3:08:17 PM
Why did he have to call them windmills? Sigh.I think it's plain to see that at this point, he won't be the 2024 nominee.
3/10/2022 3:21:48 PM
I just assumed he didn't even understand the context of the question and made up some stream-of-consciousness bullshit, but then again I don't know how much the Ukraine topic was discussed before that particular question was asked.^Why would that be plain to see?]

I'm torn on whether I want Trump to be the 2024 Republican nominee or not. I certainly can't stand him, and it's not much of a stretch to consider a second term for him as an existential crisis for American democracy. However, it also seems like nominating him gives the best chance to elect almost any Democrat who might oppose him. If Trump doesn't run or somehow doesn't win his party's nomination, we run the risk of a more charismatic "Smart Trump" winning outright, which also wouldn't be great. Thinking through this as I type, however, if Trump is the nominee, he will just claim he won no matter what and as we saw in January 2021, that also didn't turn out well. Probably not worth that kind of risk just to keep a Democrat in office.]
3/10/2022 5:27:34 PM
Not worth the risk. That and I'm sure people were thinking the exact same thing in 2016 but he ended up getting elected. He needs to be as far away from the office of the presidency as possible.
3/10/2022 6:18:23 PM
I'm convinced, but I don't want a smart Trump either.
3/10/2022 6:49:34 PM
^^exactly. There are myriad problems with Trump, far beyond policy. A "smart Trump" would at least mitigate some of those. A DeSantis, as an example, wouldn't be good, but then again neither is Biden, and there's no reason to believe that we wouldn't survive either of them OK. They're both probably the sort of bad that we can, over the long run, represent a speed bump, not a land mine. Trump is a guaranteed disaster at best, and an catastrophic, existential threat at worst. No politics are worth chancing him.[Edited on March 10, 2022 at 7:17 PM. Reason : ]

Gop needs to be boosting Romney If they want to be taken seriously ever again
3/11/2022 12:28:46 AM
That feels almost as delusional as thinking Trump is done. Romney is a relic, he's barely in the party anymore.

3/15/2022 3:08:33 PM
Im not sure how they are done for, they have the Supreme Court for a generation and prob a coin flip chance to win back congress in 6 months. With Biden's approval rate where it is they may be betting favorites in 2024[Edited on March 15, 2022 at 3:16 PM. Reason : Or maybe you just mean there is no such thing as GOP anymore]
3/15/2022 3:14:47 PM
GOP is as viable as ever. The only thing “done for” is the people like Mitt Romney or Liz Cheney that are now outcasts of the party. But let’s not pretend the Republican Party is dying. It may have transformed into something else. But it’s plenty viable.
3/15/2022 4:12:28 PM
And most of the elected representatives aren't exactly new? What percent of senate/HOR is new to office in the last 6-8 years?
3/15/2022 4:28:21 PM
I’m sure there’s polling that would be more definitive than my anecdotal opinion. But isn’t it fair to say that Trump has brought more people to the Republican Party? It may feel like he’s narrowed the base due to his style and the stereotype of the MAGA voter. But there’s plenty of more traditional Republican voters and politicians that haven’t left the party in addition to the new people he’s brought in. Sure, he driven some away and definitely was polarizing to that point that his presence on the ballot increased Dem turnout. I just don’t see how anybody can say he’s killed the Republican Party. Maybe he killed whatever fantasized version of the Republican Party some people had (the moral party for small government, I guess?). But that hasn’t had any material change on the electability and viability of the party in current and future elections as far as I can tell. I guess I’m just asking…is anybody actually saying the GOP isn’t viable? Or do y’all just mean the vision of what the GOP once was is now gone?
3/15/2022 5:56:04 PM
I don't know, I was guessing based on snewfs comment.Anyway sane moderate mitt Romney when discussing a potential covid funding bill basically said "sucks to be you good luck"
3/16/2022 9:15:02 AM
oh I meant the GOP my Dad belonged tothe pro-democracy, pro-America partythey're all criminal autocrats now that pander to white supremacistsI'm sure they'll have plenty of success with that
