Yeah, it's tragic, but we're heading up north to visit family so I have to look somewhat presentable. I want one of these.
^Thanks dude. Hey, while I've got the studio lighting, anyone want their picture taken early in Jan?

Comparison of the Canon 18-55mm "kit lens" and the Canon 50mm f/1.8.

Oh I knew it, I'd just never done a comparison like that. I'm hoping to get a Canon 70-200mm f/4.0 L IS USM in the next month or so. I feel like the decision between the f/4 and f/2.8 is like deciding to get a 42" TV or a 50" for $700 more. If I don't get that, I might just save some $$ and get the Canon 28-135mm IS USM. It's probably what I should do anyway. 12/30/2006 4:07:05 PM |
Ronny All American 30652 Posts user info edit post |
Honestly dude, get the 2.8. The f/4 is a good lens, but if you EVER want to use your lens indoors, or anywhere not in direct sunlight, the 2.8 will be better. Instead of getting the IS version, just get a non-IS 70-200 2.8. That would be your best deal, in my honest opinion.
(Your TV analogy isn't very good. With TV's, bigger size doesn't mean anything but more aesthetic appeal. The 2.8 is a full step wider than the 4.0, which is a HUGE difference in some situations)

kit lenses tend to be garbage. although its kinda unfair to compare most zoom lenses to fast primes.
the nikon kit lens isn't "horrible" i guess but its not really a great lens and compared to the nikkor 50mm 1.8 its like shooting with wax paper. 12/30/2006 8:21:38 PM |

i have a million of buildings and shit of greensboros buildings and homeless people areas and shit... got a badass few of the parking deck at elm and friendly, the spiral... but the way im feeling lately (hate the city) nothing beats this airplane flying over lake brandt yesterday, maybe 4 miles out from the airport. i think i like zoom shots the best
and only 2 airplane pics came out good out of like 5 planes attempted\\\\
oh yeah i took some decent sunset pics at the lake yesterday but they all sucked compared to a lot of these without editing... and i cant bring myself to falsify colors in my pics.]

1) You'll come around to it 2) It's not necessarily falsifying them. I used to feel that way too. Then, on my mac, was iPhoto. That's all I use on mine. Typically, I increase contrast slightly, maybe mess with saturation, and I usually tinker with exposure. Sometimes I alter the temperature of the pictures.
There's also Lightroom, which is more of the same. In either case, it's not really falsification, but enhancement. Very rarely does the picture come off your memory card as vivid or perfect as it is in real life. 1/7/2007 6:39:46 PM |

im saying that if you take a nice picture with a nikon d200 and use a nice printer for a 16x20 or so, then the stuff really does look a lot like it did when you took it. i cant help it that the sunset wasnt the same as they were in the catalina mountains in arizona.
god id love to fly out there for a couple days just to take some of those shots over with a real camera 1/7/2007 6:50:37 PM |

theres a good example of a camera that could never capture the real colors that were there that day.
those tucson sunsets were insane. i thought it was pretty good for a 4 year old camera till i saw some of the new shit out there

Yeah, I'd definately touch that up with a little contrast. 1/7/2007 7:00:08 PM |
ambrosia1231 eeeeeeeeeevil 76471 Posts user info edit post |
contrast, make the entire thing slightly warmer, and increase saturation a touch.
because there's not much detail in the trees, you can get away with those last two. 1/7/2007 7:04:21 PM |
jackleg All American 170957 Posts user info edit post |
like i said, i use better cameras now so i can have the real colors. not the adjusting bullshit. i realize some people like that, but its just "not me" 1/7/2007 7:13:45 PM |
