Its much less distracting for me to be gone for 5 minutes than for me to spend 20 minutes thumbing away on the blackberry, not paying attention to the matter at hand

As you can tell, I'm on the internet all day...I obviously don't work consistently throughout the day

But when I do, I get things done...I don't spend time on things I can accomplish by other means in a fraction of the time

typing multiple posts ( and waiting for a response for each one) takes a significant amount of time
whereas a phone call would resolve it instantly

Set up a time with a customer in another building (~10 minute walk) to come troubleshoot their computer. When I arrive, they are not in the office and have not left a note as to when they'll be in. So not only did I waste a trip, but have to go back later today.

People who come to the scrapyard at 4:50pm on Friday and wander around for over an hour and MIGHT spend $5 on something. I don't know what makes people think we're on a different time table (despite the big sign at gate listing operating hrs 8-5) and we owe it to them to wait while they dick around.

AND/OR:

Showing up all the time between 12-1pm (during lunch) and bitching that we were gone when we get back (despite a big sign at the gate: Gone to Lunch). Just because you're not eating doesn't mean everyone else is not eating as well!!

I suppose it's too much to ask for an advance phone call if you're planning on coming after hrs?

Workplace annoyance? When you tell your boss you aren't coming in for the day because you have emergency appointments. Then 5 minutes later, someone else calls in because their son-in-law died and the boss calls you back demanding you come in to work anyways because their emergency is more of a priority and he needs someone there... I send my condolences to the co-workers family loss, however, that isn't going to get me to come back in stupid. I hate it when my boss gives me grief because he's short people HIRE MORE CHEAP'O.
