The 2009 recruiting classes as of signing day. There are still prospects out there that could make this list change. I've bolded the ACC schools. It was funny reading all the GT fans comments in the Atlanta-Journal Constitution articles on Favors talking about why would Favors even consider NC State and that GT's class was so great. Well look at who's rated higher. Who's the bitch now!

Also did they recruit Glen Rice jr as well??

I refuse to get my hopes up. I just won't do it and get my hopes stomped and pissed on again... but I'm giddy just thinking about it.

I'm surprised Uconn isn't on the could be Top 5 list. If Durand Scott commits, they'd have the #'s 21, 41 and 65 in the class filling their only available scholarships...

I think we a decent season, not win the ACC or anything, but a solid season for what we have to just help the confidence of Favors and Wall.

I think both are going to wait and see how the season shakes out and I've read that Wall is trying to make sure his grades/SATs line-up with all the schools he's considering. So I think these kids are definitely doing the right thing for themselves.

I'm a long-time State fan, so I know not to get my hopes up too much. But I think we have as good a shot with both as anyone else does, just gonna have to hope in the end they pick the good guys.

I wonder when they are expected to announce their commitments, or when they are expected to commit. I know Wall is visiting Memphis on Saturday. Maybe Favors will commit earlier since he already visited UGA and GT.

I can't find the article link, but I read that Scott Wood is already Marion's all-time leader in 3-point field goals and shooting percentage and he still has a season to play. Never hurts to have a guy who can knock down the three.

Well there's also been some big commitments during that time. Those rankings came out in late August. Kenny Boyton committed to Florida, Abdul Gaddy switched to Washington after Olson announced his retirement, Avery Bradley and Jordan Hamilton chose Texas, Ryan Kelly chose Duke, Daniel Orton chose Kentucky, Wally Judge committed to Kansas State, Thomas Robinson and Elijah Johnson committed to Kansas, Tyler Honeycutt decided on UCLA, and Rodney Williams committed to Minnesota. Those are all players that Scout has listed as higher than Lorenzo Brown (I don't agree with a couple of those being higher, but whatever). There were also other guys that committed to programs during that span and boosted those teams' rankings.

Have any of you looked at the "Derrick Favors please go to NC State" and the "John Wall please go to NC State" groups on Facebook? WTF is Cody Hawkins, the QB for Colorado, doing in the group for John Wall? Why does he want Wall to go to State?

interesting comments from Lowe about our signings. Howell is signing Monday with his teammate, but Lowe mentioned that Brown and Wood were signed but that there were others and they were optimistic there were no problems with them.

^ I would be careful reading into that statement that somehow we've got some silent verbals that are going to sign

Lowe got in a little bit of heat talking about CJ Leslie who has not signed a LOI...coaches can't talk about recruits who aren't yet signed, so it may be that he was talking about Richard Howell...but that still doesn't explain the plural of "others"...

probably nothing to see here

Recap of State basketball classes

name - scout/rivals star rating - position - position rank if available - other schools that were interested including known offers in italics

2002
Cameron Bennerman - ****/*** - 23 - SG - Tennessee, Virginia, Clemson
Dom Mejia - ****/** - SG - Rutgers, Seton Hall, Connecticut, Penn State, Drexel, Hartford, Siena, Boston College, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Illinois, LaSalle, Marquette, Massachusetts
Justin Flatt - ***/*** - SG - WVU, Clemson, Arkansas State, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Fairfield, Ohio State, Penn State, Florida
Adam Simons - ***/ - C - Wake Forest, Richmond, North Carolina

2003
Engin Atsur - /*** - SG - Texas, Siena, Clemson, Georgia Tech
Mike O'Donnell - **/*** - PG - North Carolina State, Butler, Furman, Holy Cross, New Orleans, Old Dominion, South Alabama, Stetson, Florida, Florida State, West Virginia

2004
Cedric Simmons - *****/**** - PF - 4/17 - Clemson, Wake Forest
Andrew Brackman - ****/*** - PF/SF (for some reason Rivals had him listed as a SF ) - 7/23 - Arizona, Dayton, Miami (OH), Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech
Gavin Grant - ****/*** - SF - 14/30 - Pitt, Richmond, Rutgers, St. John's

2005
Brandon Costner - *****/**** - PF/SF - 6/9 - Georgia Tech, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Seton Hall, UCLA, Virginia, Connecticut, Saint Joseph's (PA)
Courtney Fells - ****/***** - SG - 9/7 - Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, FSU, Georgia Tech, Kansas
Ben McCauley - ****/**** - PF - 24/22 - Cincinnati, Penn State, Pitt, Virginia, Xavier, Duquesne, Maryland, Ohio State, Stanford

2006
Dennis Horner - ***/**** - SF - 22/19 - Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Notre Dame, Villanova, Wake Forest
Bartosz Lewandowski - ** - C - San Diego

The 2006 class would have looked a lot better had Larry Davis not defected to Seton Hall and Dan Werner not defected to Florida after Sendek went to ASU. The funny thing is they would have gotten a ton more playing time had they come to State, but Werner does now get to say that he was on a National Championship team even though he didn't ever see the floor.

2007
JJ Hickson - *****/***** - C/PF - 3/2 - Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgetown, Illinois, Kentucky, Miami (Fl), Tennessee
Tracy Smith - ****/**** - PF - 18/10 - Alabama, Charlotte, LSU, Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech, USC, Memphis, Tennessee, Louisville
Javier Gonzalez - ***/*** - PG - 30 - LSU, Duquesne, Hofstra, Washington State (I actually heard that they had offered), South Florida, UCF, SMU, VCU, Florida
Johnny Thomas - ***/*** - SF - 40 - Miami (FL), George Washington, Old Dominion, Wake Forest (supposedly they were about to offer right before he committed), Clemson, FSU, Virginia Tech, Xavier

2008
CJ Williams - ***/*** - SF - 28/25 - Clemson, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, ECU, VCU, WCU, Miami
Julius Mays - ***/*** - SG - 34 - Indiana, Xavier(these don't show up on Scout but I found information elsewhere that indicated that these schools had offered), Ball State, Western Michigan, Purdue, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Cincinnati

2009
Lorenzo Brown - ****/**** - SG/PG - 8/7 - UConn, Florida, Memphis, Oregon, Georgia, LSU, Texas, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Miami (Fl), Ohio State, Tennessee, UAB
Richard Howell - ****/**** - PF - 19/15 - Georgia, Marquette, Oregon, Michigan State, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Texas, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Memphis
Scott Wood - ***/*** - SG - 29/29 - Virginia Tech, Miami (FL) (these two schools did offer even though Scout doesn't show it), Butler, St. Louis, San Jose State, Western Michigan, Pitt, Purdue, Xavier, Southern Illinois, Baylor, Dayton, Illinois

2010
CJ Leslie - *****/**** - PF - 4/12
Ryan Harrow - ***/*** (Harrow could easily rise to a 4* guy in the next year) - PG - Wake Forest, Auburn, Chattanooga, Kentucky, Marquette, Florida, Clemson

I think Sidney's recruiting is looking pretty good overall compared to where we were just a few years ago. The 04 and 05 classes should have been great for us, but Simmons and Brackman only playing for 2 years hurt. And well the 05's could still leave an impact this year if they play with the passion that we have seen in the past.

I know, I know, the scholly situation has been discussed multiple times. But I still haven't seen a definitive explanation of how we'd get 2 more players for '09 without someone transferring. Who would transfer? I don't know how scholly's really work, can one be revoked if the coaches find someone better?

so that's anywhere from four to six open scholarships, not including any tranfers, although i don't think we'll see any transfers.

we have three commits."
