You need a visa for Cambodia? I just remember showing up at the border and they gave you one on-site.

So I'm not so sure me and my sister getting married at the same time is going to be all that fun. She gets really jealous and becomes condescending.. Today I was saying how one possibility for me and Eric is to have the ceremony at the arboretum and then the reception at Marbles Kids Museum. I showed her a picture of Curiosity Square and asked her what she thought/if she liked it... She was like, "Well yeah, if you're going for that fun look and not elegant."

I know just reading it sounds like I'm being petty, but yall have to understand my sister. She tries to best the best daughter and shit like that, and the way she said it was like "Oh.. if you're going for THAT type of thing........"

I think it's time for me to keep any wedding thoughts to me, Eric, and my mom. :\

Normally when I vent to my mom about my sister she stays pretty neutral but today when I told her what my sister said, she agreed that I should keep things to myself and that it was a rude comment.. and that not everybody has to have Crystal's type of wedding. YAY Mama

So I feel a little better. She told me, "There's nothing wrong with a fun wedding.. It can still be beautiful."

On another note, I love this dress for some reason

I think that's what they were going for with the professional Disney dress.. the way the bunches go look like how they wrapped the rope around her

They said what the red flower was called something like a red thistle? It was on the weddingbee boards under pictures of centerpieces. The white vases came from Ikea.

My FMIL found an EXCELLENT place to buy silk flowers. We paid $5.49 for a bunch of peonies with 11 flowers. They are beautiful quality and I got all the flowers for my toss bouquet, my bouquet, and some of the centerpieces.

I am thinking of having my bridesmaids carry lanterns instead of bouquets. What do you think of this idea? I am getting married with a nautical theme so I thought the lanterns conveyed that theme. Once we finish the vows, the bridesmaids can carry their lanterns downstairs and place them on the tables. We were already planning to do lanterns on the tables along with a centerpieces but this will cut costs since the lanterns will be doing double duty. Here are some pics.

I can't find many pictures since it isn't as common but here's a few:

I think lanterns are a great idea, especially for a nautical-themed wedding!

this is what that little red flower reminds me of:

Artsplosure does a student art exhibition in the Zanzibar Room of Marbles and they were particular about hanging things on the wall but I don't know much else about them.

Speaking of that area....Does anyone know the deal with that big empty building across from Rum Runners? It is a wedding venue but I don't know what it is called or anything about it.

If anyone is doing personalized water bottle or many out of town bags, you can get water really cheap from Office Depot. They have a 24 pack for $3.00 right now and if you buy 9 cases, your total will be $25 and there's a $10 off $25 on the front pack of their homepage. Source - slickdealz

Alright ladies, I have a question for you.

So my sister has been in that crazy mode in the beginning where you're all "MUST LOOK UP WEDDING STUFF"... Well she had me attached on this ridiculously long thread on Facebook between her, her friend, my mom, Mike (fiance') and her friend TJ. Welllll, it seems like there will be a lot of overlap. I really don't care about everything (because it's things like having pig pickin' cake) but I am worried there will be one thing overlapped.

Earlier in the year I told her how I wanted to give my mom my bouquet as a way to honor her and maybe do a little speech. I know I told my sister... I'm just worried that she's going to use it.

So the question is:

a. Should I bring it up and talk to her about it? This could either end in a big fight by her saying she's older and should get to do it (she pulls this card a lot) or she'll either be like "Well yeah, I knew that was your thing"
b. Should I wait and see what happens? The only thing that worries me about this is finding out like.. day-of that she's doing it.

If it was a friend doing the same thing, I wouldn't care. But seeing as we have the same mother, and our weddings are 6-7 months apart, I really, really, really don't want us doing the same thing that is such a big deal (because honestly, that's something you remember.. not a tiny detail like what kind of flowers I had or something like that).

Any advice would be appreciated.

anyone ever had custom can/bottle koozies made?

my groomsmen and i made beer (which i have cheesily named "bridal veil pale ale" ) for the pig-pickin' rehearsal dinner and i was thinking about getting some koozies made for it (though we're bottling in pint grolsch bottles, not cans)

i can google as well as anyone, but i was wondering if anyone here has had experience doing this for other functions and could give me an idea of total cost and who you used

Look, Joie.

I'm sure you're going to have a good wedding.

But let me tell you something.

It won't be a GREAT wedding

without

a Soul Train line.

I'm not kidding when I say that my dream wedding involves hiring a soul/funk DJ and having a perpetual soul train line for the entire afterparty.

And that's really all I think about when I think about a wedding.

My first instinct is to say, it's your mom and you should both do it but I understand that steps on your toes. What if you allowed her to be a part of it? You could say, "At my wedding, a really special and unique detail I wanted to do was to include mom with a speech I wrote to her. I also wanted to give her a bouquet of flowers. When I read my speech to her, can you be the one to deliver the flowers? I want this to be something unique to my wedding, but I'd also like to include you."

You know your sister better than any of us but I think it's true of ALL brides...contact them about it now because the closer to the day you get, the more likely you are of a hissy fit over something minimal.

So I talked to my sister.. I worry too much

She also wants to do something special without it being the same thing as me..

So, I'm going to do the bouquet thing and she's going to have mama walk her down the aisle (which I completely support, long story)

Sam, I think pawprint has some good advice on your problem.

Only thing I would say in addition is if she does do something to honor your mom, even if it's very similar, while your guests that you'll have in common (probably only your side of the family unless you share many of the same friends) you'll have some guests that remember but many won't notice.

If she's really adamant about doing something and pulls the "older sister" card, ask her if she'll do the honoring at the rehearsal dinner instead of the ceremony or something. That way you both can have it, but it won't be as obvious

haha, nevermind! it took me nearly 30 minutes to type this out b/c my computer was acting up and I was watering plants...and it's been solved in the mean time glad it all worked out

Oh shoot, I didn't see pawprint's post... that was awesome advice though, and I'm glad I didn't come off all bridezilla-ish and people weren't all, "Calm down and get over it" (which seems to happen a lot on theknot.com)

Thanks guys

I even told her how I worry too much because I knew she would want to honor our mom (because well, she's been the rock in our lives) but I didn't want it to be similar to the point where we would look like copycats... she said she felt the same way

OH and I have decided I'm not doing a father-daughter dance. It's bad enough I have to have the awkward talk with my biological father and tell him my stepdad is walking me.

Sooooo, I'm going to have a mother-daughter dance... and halfway through the song (probably something super girly and fun like.. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun ) I'm going to invite all the women onto the dance floor. Then after that, since everyone will be paying attention, is when I'm doing the bouquet thing.

CUTE IDEA - http://www.blurb.com guestbook chronicling the relationship of us. We have to get engagement pics taken but when we do, I think it would be super neat to make a book of us with scanned in pics of ticket stubs, receipts, pictures, drawings, and other special things we have done. Luckily, I am crazy and have kept every snippet of us from the 6 month mark forward. Has anyone thought about doing this?

I also considered a wishing tree but I don't know that I'd ever use the wishes for anything....

^Aww too cute! Glad it worked out for you Sometimes we need to just have a moment!

^ that's awesome... I'm not doing a book, but my guestbook is going to be a painting of a tree (no leaves) with our initials in the middle of the trunk, painted like they were carved in... then each person will use a green ink pad to put their thumb print as a leaf, and sign next to it. I might try to find a semi-matching guestbook where people can write a message, but I'm definitely doing the tree thing (I"ll have a station set up with wipes so people won't have green thumbs the entire time )

I totally stole it from a picture I saw on the knot

here's the picture I saw:

but I'm going to paint it myself and make it bigger since we'll have a buttload of people

It is so fun - I downloaded the program last night and played with it...super easy. There's coupon codes available too (right not liberation and hewlittpackard10 and......another one I forget) so it makes it a little cheaper. If you do it, google wedding blurb book tips...some bloggers are suggesting doing the premium paper and the dust jacket and they offer tips on fonts/formats/etc. There's lots of pics too of completed copies. That's how I found the idea.

A friend of mine used them. Her pics are on their webpage - Tracy and Katie Ball. Here's a link (not sure if it will work...)- http://www.facebook.com/#!/album.php?aid=2347798&id=12718183&ref=mf

They did an amazing job.

I am going with 2+3 Photography. We met with Sarah and Thad at quagmire's suggestion and we loved them. And they give 10% off to educators and another 10% if you use their DJ friend. We are not sure yet about the DJ but we are excited about them
