Texas retired Durant's number?

Really?

He won every NPOY award during his one year in college. For most schools the normal criteria is to be named NPOY. Duke has 13 retired numbers, but not all of them are of players that won a POY award.

^he was NPOY that year and averaged like 30 ppg.

that said, I too think it is ridiculous for any school to retire a kid's jersey after only one season. And he didn't really take them that far in the tourney a la Carmelo for Syracuse.

Yeah, I get the automatic criteria

I still think it's dumb to hang the jersey of a one-and-done kid, though

some schools actually require you to get a degree before they will retire your jersey. This will prob. have to be changed though b/c of the one and done stuff now.

Well he did elevate the program on a national level in terms of attention paid to it, which will help them recruit better.

Note in basketball only the numbers 0-50 can be used. This is b/c of the refs signaling to the scorekeepers tables the numbers of players committing fouls with their two hands. Many schools have now stopped retiring the numbers of players. Clemson is one of those for instance. Tree Rollins and some other player are the only two in the school's history to have their numbers retired. Of course this could change if Clemson ever actually had a player win NPOY. Virginia is another school that has decided to adopt this policy from now on.

^ Davidson is the only school around here that I know of that has a graduation requirement for their players to get their number retired. There is a lot of debate on whether they should retire a player that helped take them to back-to-back Elite Eights in 1968 and 1969. He died pretty recently and never got to go back and graduate.

i did like how mike patrick's interpretation of that screen went from "a hard, legal screen" to "forearm under the chin." i expected him to notice other minute details like how neal kicked nolan in the balls on the way down, and shot his dog as well

Memphis playing the only team in their conference in the Top 50 in Pomeroy tonight. Go Blazers! No reason that a team with that shit ass schedule should be in the running for a #1 seed with THREE losses already.

I just replayed it on the DVR b/c I missed it due to posting on here. Holy crap can you get any more blatant of a walk. Atrocious officiating. I would have probably lost it and gotten a T if I was Hewitt.

I don't think Hansbrough will win ACC POY. Well let me rephrase that. I don't think he should win it. There's still a chance that he might win it. Lawson and McClinton have been playing pretty lights out and I think have been the two best players this year.

Seth Davis is an idiot. Calhoun doesn't need to apologize for the way he reacted. He called that guy out for being a jerk.

good game here duke-vtech

vasallo is fucking KILLING it

va tech has had some nasty blocks.

I still think duke is going to prevail simply because they know how to drive to the basket and shoot, but they are shooting cold in the last 3-4 minutes

It pisses me off so much that they get away with that stuff as much as they do (and that one was an absolutely key game-changing call, they couldn't have done a better job defensively)

It would be interesting to see what happened if we rotated out every single one of our referees for completely unbiased ones from another conference

To be fair to Scheyer, there was plenty of contact during that dance as well... they could have called a foul just as easy as a walk.

Besides, if we are even to have a slimmer of hope to get to the tourny (or any tourny) then VT losing is good for us.

To be fair, it's not like it's just UNC fans. Duke is, by far, the most hated team of college fanbases around the country. It's not even close. If I were a Duke fan, I'd probably take that as a compliment, because it's probably mostly jealousy (of course, I'm a fan of a team that always beats them so it's not jealousy from me). Hell, Maryland fans have started like 75% of the funny Duke stuff that is emulated on here and everywhere else...
