Vladimir Putin or Xi Xinping

But I would still only vote Trump if it was a truly binary choice with zero viable alternative.

The Wolf Web has evolved into a rather interesting liberal carve-out of a pretty historically conservative collegiate community. I want to think those of us left here are a little less willing to wholeheartedly accept the social media mind control, but that might have little to nothing to do with it. There are several reformed former conservatives whose shift was galvanized by a "reality" TV presidency and the various idiocy surrounding and in reaction to that. I want nothing to do with it. I can't find anything redeeming with which to identify in a party that willing to cave on any supposed principles to gain and maintain power. I've also had some good discussions here that have meaningfully moved my thinking on certain issues and policies.

The former rabid conservatives got tired of arguing against a barrage of facts they couldn't rightly dispute, and the worst of them who were really just trolling got banned. I don't think anyone was ever purged just for holding traditionally conservative viewpoints.

Yeah, I know. When he said the voting population, I inferred that to mean the population that can vote
And I assume that the polls are polling voting eligible adults?

I wonder how turnout will differ this election. I think it was like 65% in 2020? up or down

Only 2/3?

I'm pretty sure 2/3 would vote for him if he sat in their living room right in front of them and ate a live baby like a slice of watermelon.

It’s crazy that 40% of Americans are essentially in a cult… reminds me of reading Revelations as a kid where it talks about how people will worship the Antichrist as a great Christian, which seemed impossible to me back then since I assumed all Christians would at least try to do the right thing

I think the cult is more like 20%. Maybe 25%. That's still mind-blowing, of course

There are a lot more who will vote for him who don't like him, but there is no circumstance under which they aren't going to vote Republican. I suspect this group has, at least roughly, an analog on the left. This group is also a problem, and they cannot be reasoned with, but they're a different thing from the totally brainwashed, deplorable, utterly detached-from-reality MAGA cult.

https://www.cnn.com/2024/01/13/opinions/donald-trump-iowa-elections-2024-avlon/index.htm

Quote :
"Here’s Donald Trump’s own vice president, Mike Pence: “Anyone who puts himself over the Constitution should never be president of the United States. … President Trump demanded that I choose between him and the Constitution.”

Here’s one of his defense secretaries, retired Gen. James Mattis: “Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people – does not even pretend to try. Instead, he tries to divide us.” Mattis has also said, “He is more dangerous than anyone could ever imagine.”

Here’s one of his former chiefs of staff and homeland security secretaries, retired Gen. John Kelly, describing Trump to our CNN colleague Jake Tapper as “A person that has no idea what America stands for and has no idea what America is all about … A person who admires autocrats and murderous dictators. A person that has nothing but contempt for our democratic institutions, our Constitution, and the rule of law.”

Here’s his second attorney general, Bill Barr: “He is a consummate narcissist. And he constantly engages in reckless conduct. … He will always put his own interests, and gratifying his own ego, ahead of everything else, including the country’s interest.”

Here’s one of his national security advisers, retired Lt. Gen. HR McMaster: “President Trump and other officials have repeatedly compromised our principles in pursuit of partisan advantage and personal gain.”

Here’s another national security adviser, John Bolton: “I have been in those rooms with him when he met with those [world] leaders, I believe they think he’s a laughing fool. And the idea that somehow his presence in office would have deterred Putin is flatly wrong … He’s not fit to be president.”

Here’s another former defense secretary, Mark Esper: “He puts himself before country. His actions are all about him and not about the country.”"
