Quote : | "Davie's Martin twins commit to N.C. State
By: Mason Linker | Winston-Salem Journal Published: October 11, 2012
The N.C. State's men's basketball program received the best package deal available from the high-school class of 2014 when junior twins Caleb and Cody Martin of Davie County committed to play for Coach Mark Gottfried.
The 6-7 brothers — who helped Davie reach the NCHSAA 4-A Western Regional Tournament for the first time in March — announced their decisions Wednesday night.
"When we went down there for team camp, we had just taken a visit to (North) Carolina," Caleb Martin said Thursday.
"It just felt different. I felt more comfortable at N.C. State. I liked the coaches there, and we feel comfortable with the players there."
The twins recently had secured scholarship offers from Tennessee and also had offers from Wake Forest, Virginia Tech and Virginia Commonwealth, according to Coach Mike Absher of Davie. Absher also said that North Carolina had recently started recruiting the two.
Absher said that last week, coaches from Louisville and Georgetown were in Mocksville to watch the brothers work out and that he was also in contact with the staff at Indiana.
The brothers look nearly identical, and their games are also hard to tell apart. Caleb is ranked No. 34, and Cody is No. 35 in ESPN's top-60 rankings for the Class of 2014.
Both can play shooting guard or small forward, and they'll bring versatility to the Wolfpack.
Caleb Martin missed 14 games last season with a broken bone in a foot and wound up averaging 18.2 points. Cody averaged 14.4 points, 8.6 rebounds and 5.3 assists.
"That's was the thing that made this recruiting process different," Absher said. "They had remained strong about wanting to go together. In some cases that eliminated some schools. Schools were honest about it and couldn't recruit them because they play the same position, or lack of scholarships or whatever. They held with it until they made their decision.
"They haven't taken an official visit (to N.C. State), but they have been multiple times on unofficial visits. They have been there enough to get a feel for the whole place."
Caleb Martin said that he and his brother were sure they wanted to attend a school close to home and that N.C. State's resurgence under Gottfried had their attention.
"When you look at the classes coming in, they have some of the best players in the country," Caleb said. "They have seven in the top-100 that they've signed, and the classes they have coming in, you can tell they will be one of the best teams.
"It feels good, so now we can just focus on our school and focus on getting stronger and better and things we need to improve on instead of the recruiting and all the other stuff."
The Martins can sign binding national letters-of-intent during the early signing period in November 2013." |

Rumor on packpride that Theo Pinson committed to UK.
This is contradictory to most beliefs as people had it between NCSU and Duke, and he hasn't visited UK to anyone's knowledge (or even been offered by them officially)
There were some strong vibes over the last week that we would get both Woodson and Pinson, so this would change things. He is a 2014, so plenty of time left, but it would suck to miss out on a NC talent that was seemingly very interested in the wolfpack. 10/16/2012 10:43:24 AM |

From Rivals' basketball recruiting mailbag:
Quote : | "Why would Baylor bring in Dominic Woodson and Yanick Moreira on the same weekend?
-- @Hoopmanx (via Twitter)
Sometimes schools prefer to bring in major targets alone, or at least at a time when there isn't somebody they might be competing with for a spot.
Others like to get them together on visit, dangle the spot out in front of the prospects and hopefully create a little competition for the spot.
Either way, what is clear is that the Bears would like to land either four-star prospect. A native of Louisville who spent some time in Texas before settling in at Huntington (W.V.) Prep, Woodson is the No. 37 player in the class of 2013 and a big space eating interior player with soft touch.
A four-star junior college player from Levelland (Texas) South Plains, Moreira is a more lean, lengthy and athletic big guy. N.C. State and Oklahoma appear to be the primary competition for Woodson while SMU and Texas A&M are among the many others chasing Moreira." |

BeeJay Anya is visiting NC State this weekend.
Sounds like Anya's specialty is shot-blocking / defense, while Woodson is a good shooter and rebounder. I'd rather have Anya just because Gottfried has already brought in several guys who are known for their offensive prowess. We all know that Purvis, Warren and Barber are gonna be scorers. An unselfish, premiere shot-blocker in the paint would really round out the team because there are only so many shots to go around. 10/22/2012 6:42:51 PM |

Defensive/Rebounding types are typically safer too as long as they aren't poor athletes...
The scoring types there is more uncertainty for a big man if it will translate to the next level.
Either would be great, but I agree we could use a defensive stalwart to pair with an obviously offensive minded TJ Warren frontcourt pairing (I think he'll see some minutes at the 4 when we go small since we have so many wings incoming).
Anytime you're recruiting against Baylor you know there's an ATM nearby and there's ground to be nervous.
We need to close our eyes, hold our nose, and think like Buddha said
