I just heard Lacuna Coil for the first time in a while and I think I'm into the whole Ghostly women's voice mixed with some serious guita numbers and I was wondering if anyone around knew other bands like that??? ^^Otep is not what you're looking for. They sound nothing like Lacuna Coil. They have more of a slipknot (nu-metal) sound with a girl lead singer. She mostly just screams.

i have nothing more to add on the Otep subject...pretty much what's been said: a self-inflated nu-metal chick screaming at shit only she cares about. and it think she was molested as a child or something, she writes some fucked up stuff. I never could get into Lacuna Coil, it just never did anything for me as far as originality/creativity, but to each his own.

Just to let people know, some places are finally selling Enslaved's new album (Isa) in the US. Haven't found any local chains with it yet, but http://www.theendrecords.com has it.

Pick it up if you have any interest in black or death metal. This is their best since Mardraum, in my mind. The way I'd describe it is a heavier, more talented, better produced Darkthrone with an Opeth-ish edge. It definitely sounds Enslaved all the way, but it's quite different from what I expected.

a friend of mine heard a friend of his and their band cover the song in a basement at a party, and when the time came at the beginning of the song, the singer screamed "COCK PENIS TITS FAAAAART"....i cried i was laughing so hard.

but yeah, anyway... your list looks good, if not all exactly metal (i know i know, the nu(b)-metal at the bottom is not metal, but it's a guilty pleasure of mine anyway)...but atreyu? i dunno man that's stretchin it.

bloodbath needs to hurry up and release "nightmares made flesh" in the US...i've already got it reserved at schoolkids but I want it now, damnit. "Eaten" is such a badass song and Peter's vocals fuckin kill.

I just got Dark Tranquillity's "Character" album...it's good if you like that Gothenburg sound. It sounds pretty much like an extention of "Damage Done" with a little added dynamic, but it's still the same stuff. I was never a huge fan of the gothenburg school (the originality and dynamics are kindof lacking, but maybe some of you can introduce me to some less-known bands of that sound?), but it's a decent album and if you like them you should definitely get it.

I also got Kataklysm's "Serenity in Fire"...pretty sweet album. It's still your standard head-banging crunchy death metal sound with ridiculously fast drumming (hyperblasts...whew) and loud double bass, but they mixed it up a bit on this one. There's a definitely black metal presence in a couple of the songs, and the album as a whole tends to be based on a rhythmic foundation that would make for an insane live show. Two complaints: the blastbeats tend to sound a little too triggered as it's obvious he recorded on an electric set, and Maurizio's screaming vocals kinda suck (his growls are great though). It's a good album to get into them with, and an album that previous fans should like too.

On another note did you hear about Akerfeldt joining Bloodbath for their only and last gig at some German festival? I'd love to find a bootleg of that after they play, should be fuckin sweet.

On a side note...Peter's vocals are INSANE and I dare say that, for Bloodbath, I like him better than Mikael...but their two albums (full-length albums, anyway) really have different sounds to them so it's kindof a tossup

Just picked up Bloodbath's "Nightmares Made Flesh" because it was finally released in the US early this month...and, as we already know, it fucking kicks ass. Go get a legit US copy now

I also got Disincarnate's "Dreams of the Carrion Kind" ('93) and it's also pretty good. James Murphy definitely brought his influence to the band, but the guitars are really the only thing that stand out...he's pretty precise and technical (not overdone though, except for some fucking blazing solos) and a little melodic. The drumming is good but nothing too exciting, and the vocals have the same story...they're good, but not too enthusiastic. But there's something about their sound that just grows on you...it's pretty good, even though the production could be better. If you're a fan of Death and Obituary, or just oldschool melodic death metal, then I'd recommend this album. You can forgive them for being a little generic generic since james murphy had a lot to do with the trend toward modern death metal anyway...

Yeah I'm heading to LOG Thursday ... pumped, saw 'em on the opening night of the last tour at Tremont, they were incredible. Only other times I had seen them were at festivals where they played a short set, so I'm stoked about this show.

Great show, the played a fairly long set, hour and 15 minutes or so, played a good 6 songs off the new cd, a couple BTP songs and a lot off of New American Gospel. Naturally, the monitors were screwed up (happened the last 3 shows I've seen at Ziggy's) but the crowd was great, Randy was going insane, you could honestly tell that they were having a good time up there ... Randy had lots of good crowd interaction, he jumped in/leaned into the crowd numerous times and was accepting cigs and beer too ... pretty funny ... interesting moment at the end of the show, someone had thrown a shirt on stage that said something like "Going to Iraq in 4 days just want to meet L.O.G." and a security guy gave it to Randy, and he freaked out trying to find the guy and then brought him on stage ... I should try that some time.

All that Remains was actually really good too, sounded very tight live.

Just got Gorgoroth's "Twilight of the Idols (in conspiracy with Satan)" and it's a damn good album in my opinion. If you're a fan of Gorgoroth or TNBM like Immortal and Darkthrone, I think you'll be happy with this album. I dont know much of Gorgoroth's older stuff except "Incipit Satan" but I like their sound on this album. It's got good production for a black metal album but it still retains that raw sound...Gaahl's vocals are better and more diverse than a lot of BM vocalists, IMO. The main thing I like about this album is its brutality...some of the shit seems like it'd tear your face off if you turned it up loud enough.
