Morganton Arms is in a nice location...a little furhter drive for you...maybe 10 minutes...this is near Haymount...an older complex but surrounded by nicer housing areas.

^completely forgot about morganton arms. it is easily in the most desirable location of the 3 mentioned. when I looked at getting an apartment there early last year they weren't going to have any available for 2 months or something.

plus living in morganton arms would get you indoctrinated to the haymount/vanstory culture which would save you from making the mistake of buying a house elsewhere!

1. Buckhead (new development from Caviness and Cates, a big homebuilder in the area).

2. Haymount Court

3. Adam Lake

4. Glendale Townhomes

5. Lake Clair

6. Tree Top

7. Hidden Lake (another Caviness place)

Any comments on those?

also, haymount court is not far from me ..walk by there alot... they have some age to them but the location is great...it's on a very nice street in haymount...it'd be worth your time to go look inside...the outside isn't much to see


oh just thought of another small complex in haymount...i actually think a bit nicer than haymount court...it's called Highland Apartments...i did a google street search and grabbed the number off of it...def call IMO:

I've been in units at Tree Top, Glendale, and Lake Clair, but god, it's been years - probably wouldn't be relevant even if I could remember what they were like...I do recall Lake Clair being pretty nice

we lived in Village Gate apartments when we first moved to Fayetteville, probably 20 years ago, just down the street from Lake Clair

there's also some tiny complex on Pinecrest, can't recall the name - google search doesn't give anything and the sign is blurred on streetview, but it's near the 230 address

if you happen to get in a bind and need a short-term place, I've got a friend who lives in a small 2 room off S Churchill who rents his extra room on occasion

Back in the late nineties I stayed in that neighborhood off sycamore dairy rd behind the omni theatre. Weekends were definitely fun living two blocks from mini golf/dollar theatre/arcade. That was over 10 years ago, who knows what the area is like now, but you could throw a stone and hit fayetteville acadamy from there.

Damn a lot of these apartment complexes have no availability. I am used to being able to just call and there be something open. Lake Clair is full, Haymount Court full, South Main (Hope Mills) full.


^^^^I tried that number, but got some weird answering machine. I left a message, but I doubt it was to an apartment office. I cannot find any info on Highland Apartments other than a real estate listing selling the whole building (maybe it is vacant while on the market?).

That apartment complex behind kohls is pretty nice. We toured it before we picked lake clair about 4 years ago. For the price at the time Lake Clair was a steal. My wife has a friend that still lives at the place over by kohls and seems to like it. It was new when we were looking at it.

What about the new apartments over by Millstone?

^Jens (yens) Klemsche at Highland Country Club is the head pro out there...very good..probably 40 or 50 bucks...or Robert Wilson at Cypress Lakes..he kills me - very laid back and kinda goofy...

if you are just learning, any PGA professional would work...I've gotten lessons from both guys above and I would say Robert could probably break it down easier for you but Jens definitely has more potential b'c he uses video analysis

outside of fantasy lake I'm not sure what's in Fayetteville like that...30 min away near Elizabethtown is White Lake....very popular destination for a lot of folks around here...I have a few friends w/ places there.

Okay so I have been in Fayetteville for about 6-7 weeks now and so far I am pretty disappointed with the town. I know I'll get to like it more once I discover some more areas, but man I just don't see the appeal so far. The majority of the city is just so poorly planned that it drives me nuts. Strip malls everywhere, poor traffic flow, barely any green spaces, power lines everywhere, etc.

Obviously I chose to move here so I have no one to blame but myself, but I am really questioning my decision. I love my new job, but not Fayetteville yet. There is no shopping at all, most homes are overpriced IMO, and the selection of gyms really sucks balls. The downtown area is okay, but still has a lot of vacant fronts and buildings. There seems to be a lack of good restaraunts for a city of Fayetteville's size. I guess I am being overly critical, but I drive around for 1-2 hours every night checking out neighborhoods, trying to learn the area, and each night I come back to my shitty apartment and feel unimpressed.

Seriously do any of you that live here know of any gyms that have basketball courts? The Y off Fort Bragg rd has one, but that gym could be tough to get to on daily basis for me. The Y in Hope Mills is pretty horrible. I could not believe that was even considered a Y.

Not trying to poo poo on Fayetteville, just being honest in my two month assessment. I'm still looking for a home in the area and am torn on the whole Haymount/lesser home vs. outskirts/nicer home deal. The fact that there are double taxes inside the city sucks too.

There are basketball courts at the rec center on honeycutt (right across from the Y on ft. bragg rd. unfortunately) and there is a court at the healthplex on skibo. They also have smaller half courts at the sportscenter on cliffdale. Other than that, you are looking at schools/churches/etc. for bball courts.

I've always wondered about the lack of non-chain good restaurants myself. Some non-chain restaurants I like -- Sakura (japanese/sushi) on cliffdale rd., Little Italy on walter reed rd., El Cazador on Skibo, Fresh Cafe and Mcduffs Tea room downtown, Cape Fear Chicken and BBQ.

Living away from the middle of town probably colors your perception too. Although places like Hope Mills are growing, they don't really have anything besides Walmart and fast food. That's one of the main reasons to live in thick of things, IMO.

Honestly, though, Fayetteville seems like a big town only because of the military. I don't think even the native Fayettevillians are going to call the city impressive, but once you get used to it, it's nice enough.

For what it's worth I just bought a house in Haymount. I was in the market for 3 months. The right one came up and a bought it within 5 days of it being listed. When your shopping in the area it's very hit and miss. As far as being overpriced, the military does keep the Fayetteville housing marke floating a bit more than other places.

The Omni is probably the best gym in town but no Bball courts, the health plex has a really nice court, but there isnt enough gym equipment but they do have a pool to swim in

Fayetteville is definitely missing a lot of different things considering it's size (4th largest metro area in the state) shitty grocery stores, sub-par parks, shitty gyms, shitty site design even on new construction, but to continue on decent food places:

Bella Villa has pretty good pizza.
Mi Casita is a bit legendary for Fayettevillians. Not necessarily the best mexican of all time, but pretty good and consistent.
Mashhouse is pretty good.

A few decent bars downtown. Paddy's on Raeford Rd is usually a good time, and quite a few decent sports bars though chains (Ale House, Kickin chickin, kickback jacks plus the obligatory hooters bw3 and smokey bones).

ok, i know the bar sucks, but they have fired macaroni and cheese, its awesome

and for pizza if you like NY style i highly recommend Brooklyn Pizzeria in Utah shopping center
Bella Villa is also good and Elizabeth's is good

Mash house is def a good place for a date night, either there or Circa

also a must check out that hasn't been mentioned is Latitude 35, could be a great night out because it is right next to the Cape Fear Regional theater so you could do dinner and a show, but it is small so get there early or have reservations

Fayetteville is definitely an example of what not to do when it comes to urban planning and layout. If the BRAC expansion boosts the population by 40,000 I can only imagine the nightmare traffic will become, especially on 401 (Skibo Rd.).

dubcaps I am living in a so-so apartment complex called Buckhead. It is right off All American Hwy and Cliffdale. Makes my commute only 10 minutes or so.

Still keeping an eye on Fayetteville housing, but not in a position to buy yet as our home in SC is still on the market. May even take it off the market and try again next spring as it is 95% likely that my wife will continue to teach down there for the next school year.

The closer you get to base, the worse the area gets. Horrible roads, ghetto neighborhoods, sketchy areas, etc.

I went to Jack Britt and I love that area. It's quiet, but close to major roads and shopping. Far from what you see elsewhere. If you're looking to buy a home and would trade a tad bit longer drive to work for a much better place to have a family, look out that way. I know the area is expanding and neighborhoods are popping up everywhere.

^^ There are decent apartment complexes all up and down morganton near there. It's an alright area and as far as I can tell, most of them are more or less the same. I have a friend who lives in one (can't remember the name) a few blocks away and he hasn't had any problems. If you are at all concerned about school district, I'd find somewhere else. Westover is near the bottom of the barrell, even for Fayetteville, which says something.

Other than that, it's close to shopping/restaurants/etc., a 10 minute or so drive to downtown and relatively close to base as well if that is a concern.

King's Cross is actually pretty nice. I worked for a moving company once and moved someone out of that place. The place across the street is much better in my opinion though. I believe it's called Westlake at Morganton.

we lived there for 6 months after our house burned down in high school. it's definitely on the more expensive side, but it is a pretty nice place. we stayed there mostly because you could get a fully furnished place. it was gated and had a rent a cop posted after 6 pm when we lived there. the biggest complaint would be living on that side of skibo and having to deal with the crappy stoplight at the skibo / morganton intersection.

^^ Not a bad idea. Speaking of Fayetteville, I was playing basketball last night at the Health Plex and a couple guys starting talking about how they went to State. They said to each other "Yeah I am UNC fan even though I took classes at State". So I approached them, told them I went to State and said they should be ashamed to be UNC fans if they went to State.

Unsurprisingly neither actually graduated and both threw out the worn out "I grew up a UNC fan". They then tried to justify their Walmart UNC affliation by saying that State never puts anyone in the NBA. Lame as fuck.


Back on topic, is anyone on here that lives in Fayetteville involved with any City Council functions or organizations in the city. I am looking for some networking groups as my plant's business relies heavily on relationships with other businesses in town. I am in recycling BTW.
