i think it will come down to coaching once again. i think we'll probably hang with them the entire first half and maybe even the second half, then Coach K will change something and game over. that's what happened both games last season

^^^that aint happening. you have to go through about 10 illegal screens to catch up to JJ. he'll be waving his gay hand pose by then. and have you seen the refs call fouls on Ced? if he so much as touches Shelden Williams, it's a foul. they will have their way, believe me. what we have to do is shut down everyone else. there's always somebody scoring alot unexpectedly during Duke/State games for Duke (Dunleavy a few years back, Melchionni last year) and we cant have that. if we can hold Melchionni/Paulus/McRoberts/Dockery to less than 20 combined, we have a shot.

^^That strengthens my point. Hodge scored a lot of baskets and went fucking crazy over them (especially early in his career). Melchionni doesn't get a whole lot of PT, so it's not as common to him to drop a lot of points. It's pretty hypocritical as a State fan to make fun of Melchionni for celebrating insignificant baskets and not Hodge.

sheldon williams can be shut down. especially by this particular team. the key is to keep paulus from penetrating and dont commit more than 1 guy to jj. shutting him down is virtually impossible and most teams end up giving sheldon easy looks by trying to umbrella jj. the best time to double jj is when hes inside. doubling a guy on the perimeter leaves way too much open.

if melchioni is guarded he wont do shit(but left open he can be lethal). dockery wont do anything if you guard him. nelson probobly wont play with the injury and mcroberts wont be able to create on evtimov. but if you help off him or let paulus create something is the only way.

the reason duke is so tough is because its pick your poison. i think this is the best strategy but its assuming you can stop paulus and sheldon without alot of help

1 guy on jj- no umbrellas or help on picks. make him drive then help inside. hes gonna get his regardless

contain sheldon(ced could hold ground without even use of a dt, if you have to dt who do you leave open?)

dont allow paulus to create (ncstate has been great at pressuring guards with the exception of hansborough in the 2nd half so i think this will happen)

if ncstate does those 3 things it will be a close game. if ced is in serious foul trouble the game is over.

on a side not has anyone every thought about attacking jj on offense and trying to get him in foul trouble? that seems about the best solution because even if hes not scoring hes a huge decoy being on the floor.

I just think it's funny, because everyone outside of NC State made fun of Hodge for meaningless celebrations like you guys are doing with Melchionni.

What it boils down to in this case is jealously. Deep down, everyone knows we're going to lose to Duke, so everyone is trying to get their potshots in to make themselves feel better about the loss. It's ok to accept the fact that Duke will beat NC State.

melchioni decides to contribute every game but his role is not to come out and score as many points as he can. the thing with coach k coached teams is different than any other coached team guys have roles and he only wants his best scorers to do the scoring. a play will never be ran for lee melchioni but if you leave him to help his role is to knock it down.

State fans need to do something to escalate this rivalry a bit, like the way UNC comes over here and tries to paint our tunnel. I'd love to see the benches around their campus painted red. Hell it'd be nice to just hear about some State fans driving around over there on gameday and harassing the Duke students as they're walking around campus.

I like hearing about how the trumpet players go to Chapel Hill and start playing the fight song, and red and white song really loud in front of the dorms and annoy the UNC students.

My hatred has NOTHING to do with jealousy. It's pretty obvious that on top of being a State fan first I'm also a UConn fan. I'm relatively certain UConn fans don't have ANY reason to be jealous of Duke considering the near annual beating of them.

I think we can hang with Duke.. Maybe not win, but this Duke team in my mind isn't even as good as the 2003-2004 team which we beat once.
