You're welcome to come cheer the new USL team that will start play next year at SAS Soccer Park. Plans are already in place to have a traditional soccer-style supporters club (and sitting all in the same section). That, and 2000 season tickets are sold already.5/25/2006 12:30:20 AM |

so England B-team lost to Belarus today 2-1, and the first Belarus goal was the most ridiculous shit I've ever seen..
English goalie comes in at halftime, 5 minutes later, tries to plant his leg taking a goal kick, falls down in pain, goes straight to Belarus forward, scores in the empty net
England didn't look as bad as the scoreline suggests.. first goal was a nice header from Owen off the post and a rebound (even though Owen looked offsides to me) and they were robbed of a PK in the 2nd half (most obvious hand ball ever, he practically swatted it like a basketball).. Walcott came in, didn't really do much, showed some pace once and got fouled, and had a shot that went right to the keeper.. Aaron Lennon looked amazing, he has really good ball skills, he's really fast.. I would love to see him with an England A-squad midfield 5/25/2006 7:24:01 PM |

most of the guys were on the world cup squad, just not the probable starting lineup.. but I'm not really sure why it was a "B" team, other definite "A" guys played - Crouch, both Coles, Campbell to name a few 5/25/2006 7:58:47 PM |

Flyin Ryan All American 8224 Posts user info edit post |
I think it's just what the media call it since it doesn't have the stars and surefire starters. It's still a cap.
It was supposed to be completely B, but injuries forced some A's to start. So I guess you could say the team was a B+. 5/25/2006 8:12:20 PM |
aimorris All American 15213 Posts user info edit post |
no its not a cap, doesn't count as an international appearance, they repeated that often during the game. the scoreboard in the corner said "Eng B" and "Bel" 5/25/2006 8:33:45 PM |

Fuck. Gibbs is solid, mean, and willing to sacrifice himself for the team (see the deliberate handball against Brazil in the Gold Cup).
Sucks for Robert Green, but he probably wouldn't have seen the field at the WC anyway. For some reason, Sven still has David James on the depth chart above him .
FWIW, I saw the scoreline as England B 1-2 Belarus B, so it wasn't just England putting forth the silliness.

why not on the other side? especially since o'brien hasn't been healthy/good lately... I just think we should fit Convey in somewhere 5/26/2006 10:06:48 PM |

yeah.. maybe move Beasley over.. Convey seems to rely on the left moreso than Beasley.. I heard Balboa talking about how Convey could be pushing Beasley for the starting job.. i personally dont see this happening anytime soon 5/26/2006 10:21:49 PM |

I just picked up a pretty cool book that was just released this month called The Thinking Fan's Guide to the World Cup. 32 essays, one on each nation, including "England" by Nick Hornby and "United States" by Dave Eggers, plus some extra stuff like a 2002 WC recap and all-time WC tables.
It's more about the countries themselves and their relation to the game than the actual teams, but it's worth a read from what I've looked at so far.
