Did I miss the part where they point us to those studies? Because I don't believe that I have an immortal soul, I'm interested in the study that says that I do. In fact, they later cite a study that showed that 13% don't believe that there is a spiritual element to humanity, which seems to be in direct conflict to the quoted statement.

The rest of the stuff makes sense and isn't shocking, but that quoted statement is the leap that is necessary to support the author's point and it's not really supported anywhere in the piece that I can see.
