Hm. So are you trying to say that Jimmy V was no more successful than Herb?

SandSanta, so you admit that the program was in shambles when sendek came in then?

and since you were right there witnessing it all, you truly believe we're no better off now than we were in 91-92 season and the years following?

Seriously. Stop having high expectations of the team just because we won some titles back in the day.

Back in 1973 and 1983, I wasn't even born yet! So while it's nice to know that the basketball team did well back then, I have absolutely no emotional ties to the glory days!

And since I didn't get into college basketball till middle school, back when we sucked and were just fortunate to make the NIT, I see making the NCAAs as a very fortunate thing, and something to be very proud of.

So unless you're at least some 27 years of age, when you might have been old enough to remember state's '83 championship run, you should can all the history talk. The old boosters have more right to complain about that than anyone else.

Ok, so I should just forget what State basketball used to be and be ok with being the third best in the state of NC because I wasn't alive to see it? Wow.

Herb can display that prominently on his resume

No, the good 'ol days were the Herb Sendek years! 44% ACC win %, ONE top-3 finish in the ACC regular season, ZERO ACC tournament or regular season titles, dismal record against top rivals, numerous losses in important games, etc.

The pre-Herb years when we won 2 National Titles and 10 ACC Tournament Titles absolutely sucked!

Can you believe we've had ol Herbie coaching the pack for 10 YEARS now? A decade. What a waste of time, effort, money, blood, sweat, and tears.

The rest of the ACC must be laughing their ass off that we've allowed this bozo to continue as coach for this long.

When is enough enough? After Herb's been here for 15 years? 20 years?

I never said that you should be happy to be the third best team in the state.

Just don't be unhappy because we used to be 1st in the state at a time before you were born.

Be unhappy because you've grown up all your life and we've stayed the 3rd best team in the state (meh, we were 4th best through some of those years).

Just find a better excuse than the history one.

State's basketball tradition is the measuring stick though. Herb does not measure up to the type of program that we have had. I'm not going to cast out 50 years of basketball just because I wasn't alive to see it.

NO! ACCORDING TO HERB SUPPORTERS, HERB IS GREAT BECAUSE ALL WE SHOULD REMEMBER IS THE LES AND HERB YEARS!1 AND HERB IS BETTER THAN LES, SO FOR ALL WE KNOW, HERB IS THE BEST COACH NC STATE HAS EVER HAD!!1!

AND THE HERB ERA IS THE "BEST" ERA IN NC STATE BASKETBALL HISTORY! THOSE PRE-HERB YEARS DON'T MATTER BECAUSE IT'S MORE THAN 15-20 YEARS AGO.

WE SHOULD BE HAPPY WITH HERBUDDHA!!

We shouldn't base expectations on our history

We should base expectations on Les Robinson's era.

Ya know, with thoughts like that... you'd fit in great with the NCSU administration

Who should be more pissed off..?

1. NC State students because they haven't won a championship in over 20 years

2. The state of Texas because the lone championship they have hangs, in all places, UTEP (Formerly Texas-Western).

3. UTEP because they haven't won a championship since the sixties

All three should have some degree of anger. Texas, however, is a state known for their football and baseball success, not basketball. Quite the contrary with North Carolina.

Only Rice's head coach has been at his school for more than a decade, and that is because it is Rice, the one of the smallest Div. 1 schools in the nation, meaning they could not afford to have coaching turnover very often. The next closest is Rick Barnes at Texas, who has shown great success at Texas, more than they have had in their basketball history.

Same goes for us with football. My expectations for football are lower because NC State has never been a football power. That is why I am happy with Amato right now because he has matched the success that NC State has had in football historically.

may i redefine "the State thing" for bennerman and anyone else- they seem to think its some sort of phenomena where the fans never support the coach or the team, but i think its more of a fanbase that remembers NCSU tradition and wants to return to that and an athletic administration and coaching staff that is content with mediocrity, this causes some friction between the two groups and the coach gets the short end of the stick it seems, but I think if the coach cared about the same NC State tradition the fans want back and taught that to his players maybe we'd get somewhere. All the different groups- athletics, players, coaching, fans have different goals, standards and motivations- no ones on the same page so we're stalled- but i still think it needs to come from the top down...

if you think our coach is settling for mediocrity then you are an idiot

its not a case of does he want to be upper tier, its a case of can he be upper tier

I believe Sendek really does want to be successful and win at NC State.

I just don't think he is a good enough coach to do that on the level that is consistant with NC State's basketball tradition and expectations.

we will never be "upper tier" unless we can get a f*ing rebound

we run a small school type offense (not necessarily the 'princeton') with big school talent, hell we run the offense that small schools make runs in the NCAA tourney with... the only difference is we have big time talent.

the reason those small schools do so well is because they get hot from outside the 3-point line for a couple games and make a little run, the same theory applies... when we are hot, we are fine. But when we are not hot, we have no opportunity to get second chance points. I may be wrong, but I have watched state college play ball for years now and to me this is our biggest problem.
