Yes, reducing bus service as the number of students going between main and centennial is an excellent idea 8/23/2006 4:20:34 PM |

^ yeah, and he also was about 20 minutes late. myself and 2 other people got to the bottom of kaplan at 3:23 (which is when it is supposed to be at king's ct/gorman crossing), and did not get picked up until 3:48. he had the other 2 buses directly fucking behind him. i know its a free service and i should be thankful, but missing 2 scheduled stops is just not acceptable when people are trying to get to class. 8/23/2006 9:46:03 PM |

I've driven the Wolfline and the AppalCART (Boone and ASU's public transit) in the past and it's pretty accepted at both places that the first 2 weeks will be pure hell either way. Just take it with a grain of salt and be patient until people start skipping classes. 8/23/2006 9:57:52 PM |

^ yeah that is pretty much key. If you can make it through the first week I would say roughly 50% of the people stop riding the bus so then it is not bad at all. I don't know if they find rides to school or just stop going to class. 8/23/2006 10:16:34 PM |

i'm missing the damn centennial bus. i've had this happen numerous times already. i get the bus on crest rd. i've been passed by full buses and they've skipped over 25 students because they were full.
in the past i could ride the centennial and that bus would pick up the leftover people. even with 2 frat court buses running it's not getting the job done. why did they get rid of the 3 centennial routes and replace it with the engineering.
fyi i haven't read all of the thread yet, so if i missed something that's been covered already sorry. 9/6/2006 10:57:55 PM |

I tried riding the busses (namely frat court) into campus in the mornings, but that didn't really work. The buses end up being full before they get to my apartment. The trick is, these buses haven't even run through frat court yet, where there's another busload of people waiting to be picked up.
I imagine it'll quiet down in a few weeks, but still... Hard to consider the bus system reliable when two full buses pass your stop then you have to walk to school.
Oh, there was that amusing thing the other day where a bus driver on the avent ferry route just kind of abandoned the bus on his break, then the bus cut off, then he ran back and called for help. Then we had to walk since all the bus routes were stopping besides the werewolf routes. 9/6/2006 11:15:21 PM |

Back in 2002, they (the company that owns the vehicles and operates the service) wanted to get more busses with the standard transit layout (some perimeter, some forward), but NCSU Trans only wanted to get the perimeter seats (presumably because they can hold more). Bus 4500 was the first one they tried like that. It's the one with the red fabric seats that all face forward.
The busses you're speaking of were probably not bought new, but are used, so they didn't get to pick the layout. The used busses usually supplement the fleet of Blue Birds when they need to run more than they have on hand due to route expansion and/or breakdowns.
When I worked there, We only had one spare bus, so if one was out for service (routine or otherwise) all the others had to be out. They've gotten much better now, they have been increasing their numbers.

Oh yeah, those chairs are cushy and soft. Noise is a little better in them too.
Although if I had to pick between being able to get a ride to school, or a cushy ride to school that's only free half the time, I'd pick the first option. 9/7/2006 7:50:12 AM |

you can get off the facing-inward seat busses quicker as well, especially when full. there is nothing more annoying than waiting for 5 rows of people let the window-person out and then get back in. 9/7/2006 9:47:49 AM |

What annoys me even more though is when there are people waiting to get on at a busy time and the assholes near the back dont fill in the extra space and people end up getting left behind.
When I was a driver, l would make an announcement and people would move back and bill in empty seats. 9/21/2006 3:10:14 PM |

I was riding the other day, where Dan Allen meets Western. If you can recall, there is an area where you are not suppose to have a car if the light is red. Well someone was blocking the way for my bus to go down the street going towards Wolf Village. The car could have backed up, there was one behind him. It ended up that the driver of the bus got so pissed at the guy got out of the bus, went behind the car, wrote down his license plate, and just got back in the bus and drove off. 9/21/2006 3:21:41 PM |

What annoys me is when the trashy bus drivers act like their job position is not refillable. And when there are people at a BUS STOP, the bus does not stop. And when they see you walking briskly or evn running and pull off anyway. I'm sure there are more, and I will think of them later.
I was waiting at the bus stop at the parking deck the other afternoon, and a bus saw me stand up and move to the bus stop sign, and he just slowed down and made the turn without stopping. I threw my hand up too. The next bus comes along and I did the same thing-stood up and moved to the sign and looked right at the bus driver and waved my hand. He acted like he was gonna keep driving. I threw up my hand and said "What the fuck!" And he stopped. When I got on he said "You're supposed to wave me down if you want to get on". I said "It is a bus STOP you know. Did you see me stand up from the bench?" He said "Yes". I said "Did you see me move to and stand at the sign?" He said "Yes". And I said "Well, in that case, I find it hard to believe that you did not see he wave my hand at you or even catch a hint that I needed a ride." He wanted to argue but I told him that I needed to be in class on time and I was not arguing with him about it, I was on the bus and on my way and there was no reason to keep on.

Today a very short Guatemalan student got on the Wolflink and told these two religious black girls that he had just found out that he was a father (apparently his ex hadn't mentioned the pregnancy until very very recently). To which, one of them said, "Are you married?!" He wasn't. "Well I wish all babies could be from wedlock, but a baby is a blessing from God. Do you go to church?" He does, and mentions that he was recently baptized. "Congratulations! You found the Lord at the right time!"
Wolfline conversations are so interesting sometimes.

Will someone affiliated with the wolfline PLEASE read this???? Especially when the bus is packed. The blasting heat will only make the standing people pass out and fall over.
Today there was this obnoxious, overly loud, estrogen-loaded, whiny-voiced kid who shouted at the people in the back to "Move back! Squeeeesh up! I can see y'all back there - you got room!" There was shocked silence and "OH NO HE DI'NT!!!!" from the back...I'm surprised he didn't get his ass beat. Don't you hate it when you are running for the bus and the door just closes in your face and they take off? I had that happen to me Monday. It was the old angry Frat Court driver that always says "Watch your step, exit through the rear". I was always nice to him and exited through the rear but now I'm gonna do my best to exit through the front from now on. 12/1/2006 8:39:43 AM |

The other day I was on Varsity and the driver was stopped at the gym. It was pouring rain and this wild-eyed lady gets on the steps to talk to the driver. She says, "I'm going to Brent Road." Driver tells her this bus doesn't go there, she has to take Frat Court. It didn't sink in because she says again, "I'm going to Brent Road." Driver explains again that she has to take Frat Court. She says, "Court bus??" Driver says, "No, Fraternity Court." She replies, "Does this bus go to Brent Road?"
It seriously took him like five minutes to explain that she needs to take Fraternity Court. There was some kid waiting behind her to get on the bus who was standing in the rain the whole time. ] 12/1/2006 12:00:43 PM |
