things don't look good for GH today. harmonix has been rumored to have been taken off development of GH3 (since activision bought red octane and MTV bought harmonix) and its been given to the guys who made that piece of shit GUN. looks like the franchise is going to take a nose dive

That doesn't mean much. The control scheme and general format of GH has been established. As long as they maintain the quality of the covers and license good songs, they should do OK. At this point it doesn't take much effort to make a good GH game. Not saying they won't screw it up, but it's not hard for them to do it well either.

Exactly. Now that we have all the modes we need and they perfected the hammer-on/pull-off recognition, there's nothing else to develop.

So for a person who has never played guitar in his life, and has no musical ability whatsoever, is there any reason to check this out?

Yes. My roommate has no musical ability whatsoever and loves GH. Start with GH1, though...it's easier from top to bottom and the tracklist is more accessible.

To clarify ^ and ^^.... You need musical ability. You do not need musical experience. Some people just can't seem to get it.... they're not allowed to drink my beer.

Things are getting a bit more interesting with the next game. Neversoft seems to be the developer of the new GH. They made the Tony Hawk series, so it should do just fine.

The two names, Guitar Villain and Drum Villain, are linked to "computer game software" and "games sold with electronic guitars," both apt descriptors of everyone's favorite couch-jumping rock sim franchise."

Harmonix is officially not working on GH II.

Quote :
"Harmonix Talks Guitar Hero, New Music Franchise

Harmonix Talks Guitar Hero , New Music Franchise Following last week's news that Tony Hawk franchise developer Neversoft had posted job openings for the Guitar Hero franchise on its own website, Harmonix producer Daniel Sussman has confirmed that the now MTV-owned Cambridge, MA studio has moved on, and is in the midst of creating a new music game.

Sussman, one of the key figures behind the creation of the Guitar Hero franchise for now Activision-owned publisher RedOctane, has told Gamasutra, "Here's the official line: Harmonix can confirm that we are not developing Guitar Hero 3" - these duties presumably being carried out by Neversoft.

He added specifically: "We are instead working on a different music game project, one that is a bigger and more ambitious endeavor than we felt we could pursue within the bounds of the Guitar Hero franchise." Further specific details on exact subject and publisher for the game are not being released at this time.

As previously reported, the fate of the enormously successful Guitar Hero franchise had been under question, with various business deals being made around it. Just prior to E3 of 2006, publisher Activision made a surprise announcement in acquiring RedOctane, saying at the time that "...this acquisition will provide Activision with an early leadership position in music-based gaming, which the company expects will be one of the fastest growing genres in the coming years."

Then, in September of last year, Harmonix, with a history for critically acclaimed music and rhythm game innovation, including previous titles Frequency and Amplitude, itself announced it was being purchased by media company MTV, a former marketing partner on the Guitar Hero franchise. This move appears to have split the franchise creator away from the publisher/IP owner, hence the change of developer going forward. "

Just got Guitar Hero II a few days ago. I flew through medium and got five stars on all of them. Then I worked my way through hard without failing anything; so that's cool.

I passed Beast and the Harlot on expert on my first try.

I'm about to start a career on expert in the next day or two.

Oh and is there any way to unlock the stuff you would get from beating the game on easy without actually have to play it on easy. It's just so boring.

That is the Frequency/Amplitude series, but with a guitar rather than a controller.

GHII is gonna cost me $90 to play on 360... ouch

It's worth it tho.

Maybe the extra $10 will be made up for by some free downloadable songs. GH I anyone?

Of course it's wireless, it's for the Xbox 360.

They won't even need a plugin on the console.

i got 96% of all notes hit and no less than 91% on any particular section

is it purely a score thing?

yes, the star rating is solely based on your score.

check the Song Stats section of http://www.scorehero.com to see what the cutoffs are for five stars.

I need some help from some Expert players.

I got this game a couple of weeks ago and have never played a guitar before in my life.

I decided to play all of the songs on easy until I 5-starred them all and then move on to medium.

Did that, now i'm on medium and I can't 5-star Institutionalized. I'm struggling with the string of fast green notes, then four yellow notes, then four red. I've deicded I'm not going to pull it off just using my thumb to strum down which is the way I've been playing thus far because I can't do it fast enough. I tried strumming up and down tonight, but I'm playing too many notes and brekaing my streak.

What do I need to do to nail these notes?

^^ Practice it on a slower speed so you know how many times you actually have to strum. It does you no good to just strum it really fast if there's not that many notes.
