Its only about 6 years late compared to its generational competitors in the console biz.

One thing that kind of annoys me is that I doubt that I will have any way of playing games I already own on it. IE I have lots of N64 games lying around but I don't think there is any way I will be able to play them on the Wii without having to buy them again.

Sell them on eBay, and use th money to buy downloads for the Wii, unless you just want to keep those game cartridges.

I was under the assumption that you could download the old games free if you bought the Wii.. is that wrong? Maybe they will have certain games you can download free.

they made it sound free at first, but they were talking about pricing plans of some sort at e3.

Yeah it's bogus...they DEFINITELY made it sound free early on, but now I'm hearing like $10 for N64 titles.

Gayyyy....

They should go ahead and just make them free. They've already made tons of money off those games, and you can't even buy them in the store anymore.

I don't think that they should be free(they do have to store the games, provide bandwidth for the service, etc.), but I do think that they should only charge 1 or 2 dollars for these old games. Also, contrary to what many may think, Nintendo never even implied that these games would be free.

nah but other websites did. i had a feeling it wouldnt be. they should do bundles kinda like the xbox points and then have diff games cost diff ammounts. no one is gonna pay 10 for some of those titles, but im sure kart 64 or goldeneye might get plenty of purchases.

No, I remember hearing about that. I can't remember what games specifically, though. Plus it was IGN, half of which is speculation printed as news.

Even if they made it sound free, common sense tells you it never would be. They made a killing rereleasing old-ass NES games for the GBA, do you really think they'd just give up the opportunity to make more bucks off rereleasing their N64 games?

^^I remember them asking Miyamoto or Iwata that, but they only mentioned it as a possibility. I know they've mentioned some enhancements (progressive scan support for one), but nothing's been confirmed.

$10 seems a bit steep.

But, I never thought they were be free, and they didn't really imply that, IIRC. But, I remember reading somewhere that just regular NES and SNES games would belike $2.

i beleive they said it was like 2/5/10 or something to that degree. its a deal considering the old NES games for GBA cost most than that.

goldeneye was good and all, but i have absolutely 0 desire to play it multiplayer anymore. for one, it has been done and two, im sure the controls feel like shit compared to what we're used to today in fps's.

^No it doesn't.

Anyone can download emulators right now and play old games for free. Sure it's illegal, but I really doubt that's stopping many people.

People will still buy old systems and games, regardless of whether the content is available in a new form.

Emulation doesn't provide the console experience, and multiplayer is more difficult. The same would not be true for the Wii. Thus, the point about resale of old games is pretty valid.

"Wii fans, Ubisoft is your new best friend. The publisher has supported Nintendo's Wii console since it was first revealed, eagerly readying such anticipated exclusives as the first-person shooter Red Steel and the action-platformer Rayman Raving Rabbids, both of which are set to debut with the system in a matter of months. But guess what? The French videogame giant is hardly stopping there. It has another five - yes, five games planned for Wii, and they'll all arrive in time for the platform's launch window.

Ubisoft today announced that it is in development with versions of Far Cry, Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII, Monster 4x4 World Circuit and Open Season for Wii. In addition, the studio is bringing an all-new racer called GT Pro Series to the system."

"August 2, 2006 - The Games Convention 2006 is gearing up to kick off in Leipzig, Germany, and Nintendo fans will definitely want to tune in for the event, which has over the years proven to be a miniature version of the Electronic Entertainment Expo for the region.

The GC 2006's official website reveals that beginning at 10:15 a.m. on August 23, Nintendo will hold a press conference from the exhibition titled: "Wii prove our promise." Few details about the conference itself are known, but the title is very telling.
Another, separate event titled "Electronic Arts / Nintendo" is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. the same day.

What can Nintendo enthusiasts expect? Well, if unsubstantiated reports out of France are to be believed, Nintendo may unveil as many as five never-before-seen Wii games. IGN is aware of at least one unannounced new project and we're confident gamers will be happy. "

Far Cry? Is this some new version? I for one wouldn't be bragging about a 2.5 year old port.

And you know which ones are good because you've already played them all on the PC like 5 or 6 years ago.

the story is as follows;

IGNwii came up with the name, starting using it EVERYWHERE. Nintendo's VP of marketing heard it, passed it along, and then nintendo adopted it.

Thank IGNwii's ed. in chief.....not nintendo

IGN also reported that Ubisoft is working on a Prince of Persia game for the Wii, which IMO will be the best of the Ubisoft Wii titles.

^If they properly incorporate sword fighting with the Wii controller into that, it will be very very nice. I wonder where they would pick up the storyline though, they wrapped things up pretty well in The Two Thrones.
