im sure you wouldn't call philip rivers a flop even though the only real games he's played in the NFL were mediocre
i can see hating on Reggie Bush if he were a loud mouthed son of a bitch who talked trash all the time, but he's not
and that's why i think youre sippin on haterade- you just don't like him period. 8/22/2006 4:06:08 PM |

- Rivers is a flop so far - Bush got 100x the hype in college that Rivers did...hence people expect more
maybe you're onto something though...I don't think Bush will be a great NFL player, but that view is probably multiplied by the Michael Vick-esque dickriding that ESPN is already doing
i mean on sportscenter last night they broke down every single play by Bush in the game...let him just play 8/22/2006 4:19:55 PM |

yeh on sc this morning they were basically sucking his dick just because he is reggie bush on a play where he didn't really do jack.
I'm sure they will be just as quick to point out any double teams that Mario draws.

OMG, one mediocre game!!!! he's gonna suck!!!
but yeah, i know, he's got some things to learn before he's a superstar. but i still claim that he won't be a flop.
look, bush will be ok. i'm not saying he's the next barry sanders, but he'll be ok. and i'll go out on a limb and say that he could play every down if necessary. he can take the hits. i mean, seriously, size does not equal durabilty in the nfl anyway. what about stephen davis, deuce, edgerrin james, jamaal lewis, fred taylor etc etc?? all of them suffered some serious injuries over the course of their careers, and they're all over 225 lbs.
reggie bush: 5'11", 200 lbs thurman thomas: 5'10", 199 lbs
i don't ever remember thurman missing any major games due to injury, and he definitely played every down. and i've already pointed out in this thread that bush is bigger and stronger than two of the nfl's current most durable backs, tiki barber and warrick dunn. 8/23/2006 12:21:44 AM |

just to do a little devils advocate here,
Edge came into the league at around 205 (now 215) Stephen Davis came in at 215 (now 235ish) I forgot what Jamal Lewis weighed as a rookie, but it wasn't 245 Deuce was 219 (now 232) Fragile Freddy was 223 (now 238)
and all of those guys had knee injuries at some point in their careers. With an average weight gain of 15 lbs amongst the guys I immediately know about, you can see that such an increase affects the knees. Hell, I'm pretty fit; I played HS basketball at 190 lbs, now I weigh 217 and I have knee problems too... and I don't hoop nearly as heavily as these guys play football. All that to say: size may not guarantee durability, but sustained size will.
I honestly couldn't see Bush as the same player at 215 as he is now at 200. 8/23/2006 12:44:28 AM |

It's not the Bears or the Ravens but its top half in the league.
And he had what 119 yards in his first game?

Really? Because Larry Johnson and Shaun Alexander didnt score against two of the worst defenses in the league (Cincy and Detroit)
You dont have to score to be effective.
They won the game and Bush played a huge part in the win.
And for someone who "won't be able to run up the middle in the NFL"
he looked pretty good dragging defenders all over the place.

What's the problem? It's not like he is taking an extreme position by saying Bush will be an all out flop like SOME people are. The guy is freaking talented. I don't know why State fans have to hate on players because they feel one of our own was disrespected (in this case Mario). It's not like Reggie Bush is telling people to criticize the Texans for not taking him

Fair enough, but the reason i spend SO much time trying to validate the hype is because everyone on here tries to discredit anyone who is any good.
I mean its clear that Vick is one of the best QB's in the league. No one would rationally debate that he isn't. But for whatever reason people don't like him and they try to act like he's a bad QB. It's crazy.
Reggie Bush DESERVED the hype. He goes down as one of the greatest RB's in college football history. He absolutely saved USC's ass on multiple occasions. The plays he made were absolutely ridiculous.
Is he going to run for 70 yard TD's every game? No, because the NFL isn't stupid like college football. But his speed/agility/strength WILL turn routine 4 yard runs into 17 yard runs. And that makes him one of the elite RB's in the game. Why would you predict him to be a bust? I mean sure theres a chance he will get injured but even Cal Ripken could have broken his hand if you hit him with a fastball.9/10/2006 7:53:38 PM |

reggie bush sam bowie
ignoring the mario williams dissing entirely, just read the way people write about bush.
also, it should be noted that a Saints rookie scored his first TD today. he was the 5th-to-last pick in the draft. considered by some to be a tweener (WR/TE), most to not make the roster, he's now starting at WR opposite Joe Horn. MARQUES COLSTON. I've yet to see his touchdown catch in any halftime show, postgame show, or at any point of my watching NFL Network. However, I've been treated to various Reggie Bush runs all day. I've been treated to commentators tripping over their words just to talk about Reggie Bush in games that he isn't even playing in. When Josh Bullocks caught the game-clinching INT, a commentator said "BUSH-Bullocks with the INT, and this game is over" 9/10/2006 7:54:51 PM |

Um, a lot?
NFC championship in 2 of his 3 seasons as a starter.
.500 team last year despite having the worst defense in the league.
The year he was hurt they went like 2-10 without him and 3-1 with him.
He's done ALL of this while not having a great defense or having even adequate WR's.
He's a terrific QB, there's no denying that.
