I've been on a handheld Castlevania kick for the past few weeks, and I'm about halfway through Dawn of Sorrow. So far I've gotta say it's probably both my favorite DS game and Castlevania game to date. Can't wait to play Portrait of Ruin and the yet-to-be-announced 3rd DS title in the future

Contra 4 comes out today. IGN gave it a good review of 8.0. The only negatives they really gave it were it being in 2d, didn't try much new (tribute to Contra 1 and 3), and the game is HARD AS HELL. All sounds good to me, can't wait to play.

^^Portrait of Ruin is just as good as Dawn of Sorrow. I can't get enough of the Castlevania side scrollers.

I think it's pretty great. Except that it doesn't fit in the DS' stylus hole, does it?

Texas isn't interested in that shit.

I'm just kidding, pretty sweet that it was free. Anyway, if you are going to have something like that you might want to go ahead and invest in Contra 4 to kind of cancel it out with its raw manliness.

I picked up Contra 4 this evening. It is indeed good, but difficult. Can't beat the first level on Normal yet - easy only. Contra code doesn't give X extra lives though - it only upgrades weapons the first time you use it.

^^ Awesome, I can't wait for it. I'm a Contra champ. I know you won't believe me, but I beat the first one without dying A SINGLE TIME. I was only able to do it once, and it took many many tries.

I can beat Contra 1 anytime though without the 30 lives and no continues though, no problem. Super Contra 3 on the other hand, is a different story. Now that game is hard as hell.

Bought Contra 4 on my lunch break. Haven't gotten to play it yet but I went through the instruction manual. I am so pumped, I can't wait to play. Its so old school, but looks like there's a couple of new features, like the grappling hook, and if you get the same weapon twice it becomes more powerful, which sounds cool.

Game is hard as hell. Crazy hard. Pretty darn fun though. I haven't been able to play too much of it yet, but I think it will be a good time, especially with all the unlockables.

^^Tell them to get their kids a Warioware game. The mini games in them last like 5 seconds... perfect for kids who have short attention spans.

That game will give you ADD if you don't already have it.

As far as kid friendly goes, I'd recommend:

-Kirby Canvas Curse
-Yoshi Touch & Go
-New Super Mario Bros.
-Big Brain Academy
-Yoshi's Island
-Zoo Keeper

So have any of you dudes been able to beat Contra 4 on normal? I've been able to get the the 8th stage's boss, but no farther. Also on challenge #35ish. The challenges get hard as hell. This game is a whole hell of a lot of fun, I just wish I could get a co-op game going.

I've gotten to the middle of stage 9 on normal. The key for me is upgrading the homing missles early and using them often. That's what gets me through most stages and bosses.

Beat Contra on Normal Thursday night. Final stage is pretty difficult because of those mouth things in the cieling and floor, but the final boss isn't that bad - a lot like the final boss of Contra 3

So I'm only two levels into Sonic Rush Adventure and I'd recommend passing on it. You have to replay levels multiple times to earn items and it's a pain.

Anyone tried Final Fantasy 12: Revenant Wings? It looks really good and got good reviews.

Alright so haven't gotten a new game for the DS in a while and wondering if there is even anything out worth getting right now. lately I've just been playing old NES games on it, and trying to finish Zelda.

I'm waiting for Final Fantasy IV to come out, not dated yet though. Any games out now or coming out soon that I need to know about?

It's still a pretty innovative way of incorporating the fret buttons into a portable gaming system.

Playing guitar hero sober, or on anything other than a guitar controller makes you a loser.

Hey, just got a DS Lite today for the wifey - is there a web browser "game" you can buy? What basic accessories/games do I need or are cool to have? I got her Brain Age 2, Cooking Mama, and Dr. Mario for GBA. She likes puzzle or goofy type games like that. I could not find Wario Ware Touched! anywhere... I need some basic info on how to get her off to a fun start with this thing.

WordJong is a pretty solid puzzle game imo.
