I tried installing this on a spare computer, a Dell Dimension from about 2001/2002, and I got this error:

Anyone know what it means and how I can fix it? Pressing Enter to continue like it said didn't work.

just for the sake of trying, check to see what settings you have in the system BIOS, and maybe tweak a few things. when i've seen ACPI errors, i've had to change weird stuff like USB support settings.

and while you're at it, check Dell's website to see if you have the latest BIOS firmware revision for the box in question. if it's from '01/'02, there's probably been at least 3-4 updates by now.

finally got vista to install...had to break up my RAID 0 and disconnect one of the drives for it to even install

so does this mean all my apps (like games etc) won't run on vista if i installed the 64-bit edition?

I'm thinking about just installing the 32bit version so i don't have to worry about drivers and iTunes not working...are both versions exactly the same 'appearance' besides being 64bit and 32bit? or are there certain features that won't work on the 32bit like the Flip 3D?

^^^ theoretically they should run fine. however, if the developer did anything unusual to get the game to work, you may have a hard time with it. best way to find out is to install and try. keep in mind, too, that you can also set Vista to run certain apps in "compatability mode," which sometimes helps.

^^ Maya on Vista?

^ Yes, same appearance. Vista is taking in multiple factors to determine if you're going to get the Aero Glass interface, as compared to the craptastic low-res version. I'd think running on 64-bit won't be as important, since your graphics card and amount of RAM tend to be what would hold Vista back.

All the features of the 64 bit version are available in the 32 bit version except seeing past 3 gb of RAM

sweet...just got downloading the 32bit version...i think i'll install both versions on two different drives...mainly because i was extremely impressed with photoshop and dreamweaver. both programs open in under 5 seconds and close instantly when you want it to...

put in the sound card that came with the mobo because they had vista drivers online for it and now the sound card installed correctly and everything....but for some reason no sound is playing through speakers or headphones....

anyone else have trouble with vista and sound?

where do you get the keys? i clicked on the slickdeals link and all it did was take me to a login page (and i logged in) and i opted not to fill out the form (it says "Thank you for taking the time to fill out the following online form. If you do not want to submit your information, click Cancel.")...then it takes me to the vista site...i already have rc1 downloaded (not installed yet), so where are the keys at?

and ^
