Anyone have a clue on why this would be in the awards section of the financial aid website, but not the disbursed awards section?8/21/2006 5:35:02 PM |

Sounds like you were only enrolled for fall. Federal guidelines on stafford loans require that they be distributed over two disbursements, so if you're enrolled for only one semester in a school year, those two disbursements will be spread over that semester, instead of over the school year.8/21/2006 8:11:39 PM |

^paying your tuition with a credit card has no bearing on your financial aid.
and Emily, I'll check on your stafford when I get in the office and shoot you a message on facebook or something.

I don't know how often our computer folks update the financial aid inquiry site. We upgraded our software not that long ago and this new version still has a lot of kinks to work out. If you are interested in finding out your financial aid status, just contact your counselor.

There are a lot of factors involved in determining how much aid a person is eligible for, not just the amount of income a person has. I can't see why anyone would tell you that unless you are on academic probation or suspension. Both of which make you ineligible for any federal aid. There is always a source of funding available for students who fall under those categories in the form of alternative loans. These would likely require a co-signer and will have a credit check attached to it. If you fail that, well then, things are looking so good for you unfortunately. Please note that I do not want to assume that you are on probation or suspended. I am just making a note of the one possible reason why someone may be told that they are ineligible for federal aid.

IM me tomorrow or PM me with your student ID and I'll check to see if all your funds have paid. If they have, then it is only a matter of time before the Cashier's Office (who handles all refunds, not the fin. aid office) sends you your money.

As a side question, to those of you working in the cashier's office (if any) I had some money refunded from summer school tuition, about $630, and still haven't gotton it back despite getting loans/grant. What do I need to do, fill out some form?

Nope, on both accounts. I am a junior, and I have always gotten a few scholarships, plus the Stafford. The past two years, for both semesters, I have received all of my reinbursement back on or before the day school started. I left a message, and sent an email to my financial aid advisor, but she has yet to respond. I even called the office, and they keep transferring me to a voicemail box.8/24/2006 10:15:40 PM |

^We've been extremely busy since it is the start of school. We have had 400+ students coming into the office in person this week. That is not counting the phone calls. Your counselor will definitely be getting back to you. They all have to keep a log of phone messages so I can assure you they got your message. You could just swing by the office when you get the chance and we'll help you out in person. 8/24/2006 10:19:34 PM |

Does anyone knows if the Perkins loans are subsudized or unsubsudized !! 8/28/2006 10:26:57 PM |
J-Me1983 All American 2273 Posts user info edit post |
^Perkins loans don't fall into a category like that. They are need based loans from the Federal Government with a fixed 5% interest rate. Interest does not accrue while you are in school and during the nine month grace period prior to repayment.
Here is what the Federal Gov. website says about Perkins:
Quote : | "Federal Perkins Loans A Federal Perkins Loan is a low-interest (5 percent) loan for both undergraduate and graduate students with exceptional financial need. Federal Perkins Loans are made through a school's financial aid office. Your school is your lender, and the loan is made with government funds. You must repay this loan to your school.
Your school will either pay you directly (usually by check) or apply your loan to your school charges. You'll receive the loan in at least two payments during the academic year.
How much can I borrow?
You can borrow up to $4,000 for each year of undergraduate study (the total you can borrow as an undergraduate is $20,000). The amount you receive depends on when you apply, your financial need, and the funding level at the school.
Other than interest, is there a charge for this loan?
No, there are no other charges. However, if you skip a payment, if it's late, or if you make less than a full payment, you might have to pay a late charge plus any collection costs.
When do I pay it back?
If you're attending school at least half time, you have nine months after you graduate, leave school, or drop below half-time status before you must begin repayment. This is called "grace period." If you're attending less than half time, check with your college or career school to find out how long your grace period will be. For more information on repaying and your obligations as a borrower, click on the "Repaying" section of this Web site. " |
