What's odd about that?

It's a book about a teenager's latent psychic abilities.

"Not to mention that both of the wings snapped off the plane in this episode, but in the Pilot, the right wing is still attached to the fuse. It falls off and almost lands on Claire and Hurley, IIRC.
Several oversights in that scene for a show that is typically very devoted to those trivial details.

Oh well, no biggie.
"

Maybe its another plane!!!

But Im like you, It doesnt seem like they would over look something like that.

when the Earthquake happened, Ben immediately ran outside as if he knew to be looking for a plane.

Perhaps this isnt the first plane that this has happened to?

^AHAHA. Exactly what I was getting at.

Just watched it on my DVR, and the right wing actually doesn't break off.

^yeah, right wing did not break off..

and i can't remember, but didn't the plane enter into some sort of turbulence, etc... BEFORE it split in half...?

this could be the reason it was so low when it split in half. it was already in some turbulence, etc... and then split..

i can't remember though

also i just watched the beginning...

the chick at the beginning is juliette...

Also, when her and Adam are arguing about the book club she says,

"Here I am thinking that free will still exists on th... " and then she is interrupted by all the shaking.. she is clearly getting ready to say "this island" but is interrupted. She gets the "th.." sound out and you can read her lips also....

so evidentally there is no free will on the island...hmm

^noo...he really didn't.. after the earthquake everyone ran outside, what would instintively happen if you lived in a small "village" like that...

other people were looking up as well and he just looked all around and then looked up.

i don't think he was "looking" for a plane, per se.

^^^^^yeah, earlier a poster was saying that Ben was Juliette's husband and used that conversation as evidence, but I agree with what you say, and think he's more of a Big Brother type figure. It seemed to me the man was saying that Ben would not approve of the book being read, more so than that Ben wouldn't enjoy the book. Her crying at the beginning, the rebellion with her book choice, and coldness towards Ben at the end definitely gives the impression that at the very least she does not approve of everything that is happening, and could end up helping the survivers. Interesting start to the season, hopefully they'll keep things moving a little better than last season.

I don't buy that Desmond and other dude were solely responsible for the plane crashing on the island. Remember they were way off course...waaaaay off course. But the hatch only went crazy for a like 30 seconds.

So why was the plane so off-course?

THATS A LUCKY BREAK FOR THE LOST CREATORS 5-SEASON-PLAN, ISN'T IT

i want to know how danielle hasn't found their camp after living on the island for 16 years (it seemed pretty visible from the one overhead shot). i also still want to know about the damn monster, that's what got me hooked from the first episode. :sigh:

I think there was a lot of electromagnetic energy released that acted as a beacon for the guys in Anartica. As to why Penelope had them looking, I have no clue. I thought that was the most interesting aspect of the episode and I hope to get at least some explanations before the season is over.

She's looking for Desmond... the real question is how did she know to look for electromagnetic anomolies unless Widmore is involved with the Darhma Initiative and she snooped on some information she wasn't supposed to see.

I'm still trying to figure out the separation between Dharma and the Others. They keep dropping hints such as Juliette playing a CD where Desmond put on a record (in the hatch), Ben or somebody saying that Dharma was a long time ago, etc.

Maybe I'm making too much out of this . . .

ethan's dead now, so the chances of this being a different/new plane is pretty slim

well i'm not arguing either way, but it is entirely possible that was some sort of flashback to a different plane crash from before the current one. obviously its not gonna be one after the current one cause goodwyn and ethan are dead. even if that was the current plane crash, i dont see how the fact that ethan is alive means that this has never happened before.

You think this was a flashback

to a different plane

the body of which also separated in midair

the wing of which came off

with Ethan going to the front section

and Goodwin going to the back.

Yeah, I bet that's happened like twenty times.

pretty sure i just did

i'm not arguing that either way is the case, i'm just sayin that his point is stupid. obviously if ethan is dead, then this plane did not crash AFTER flight 815. but who's to say this wasnt BEFORE flight 815? can you not refute a stupid comment without taking a side?

most of you guys still can't figure out what's been shown right in front of you and you come up with the most off the wall and ridiculous claims

This is one of the few times I'm actually in complete agreement with CharlieEFH.

Reading 2 pages of debate on how many Bens there are on the island is making my head hurt. Maybe you people should stick to watching reruns of Everybody Loves Raymond, this show appears to be operating miles over most of your heads.

but this season i want to try something different

I mean I always assumed CharlieEFH was just a huge asshole for always talking about how he's so much smarter than most of you, but really, you continue to set the bar pretty low for the guy.

I watched the episode and had a pretty good feeling like I knew what was going on, then I came here Thursday morning to see TWW's take on things, and it's like I had missed something. You guys were talking about multiple Bens, and marriages that didn't exist, and secondary planes, and for just a second there I thought perhaps I was the dumb one here. I went around to other Lost message boards and poked around, and found out that nope. In fact I'm not. You people are.

Maybe Charlie's idea is a pretty good one. If you don't have a clue what you're talking about, maybe you shouldn't participate much in the conversation.

no doubt. i think your best bet is to watch the hour long show, and then watch the next hour a week later. dont spend the week in between trying to figure out whether the number of times jack blinks during a conversation factors into the dharma's mind control experimentation. (i just made that up, please nobody actually look into it)

I don't think anyone's trying to quell the discussion completely. That's one of the best things I like about this show is how much discussion it can spark from week to week.

It's just...come on people...TWO BENS???

Seriously.

We saw the plane crash and were talking about how fucking obvious it is that there was only one plane crash.

Charlie shot him about 6 times in season 1.

And yeah, this is starting to be a stupid thread. Out of all the Lost episodes, there was almost nothing special to find in the episode. No crossovers in the flashbacks, no subtle clues... it was just straightforward, and debating how many planes/Bens/the distance from the village to the campsites is a big waste of time.
