I dont think many people understand the amount of taxes that brick and mortar casinos pay on a daily basis.

When AC closed up shop in july, the NJ state government estimated a loss of around $2,000,000 per day from what they would have collected in taxes.

And thats just 12 casinos, during weekdays.

well, my thinking was that online gambling taking a hit might give casinos a boost...which might be true in the short term, but yeah, you're right...probably not in the long term.

since you obviously have no idea what the hell you are talking about and babbling off some hippy bullshit, lets lay it out simple.


1.) you play at a casino
2.) you effectively pay for your entertainment either by house advantage or in poker, the rake. (like you pay for your entertainment at thousands of other establishments)
3.) government taxes the shit out of the house take, not the individual.

the us government has effectively lost hundreds of millions of dollars that have escaped untaxed and basically untraced over the last 6 years or so. do you really think that this would have gone on forever? no long term players did. now, who has the claim on those possible taxations would be another story. most gambling regulation is done on a state level. none of the online casinos are based out of the us however, as their operation has been illegal over the wire act for decades. therefore, they are in no jurisdiction to be held accountable for state gaming regulations.

How it has developed however is disturbing. your ability to play if you please is in fact your choice, but it is still against the law no matter what, and already was. you cannot legally gamble outside of sanctioned gambling establishments anywhere in the united states. why should this situation be flexed? thats in states that even allow gambling at all. most states have antiquated laws on gambling completely banning it.

Realize with me that im 100% against banning online play of the game, and thats not what htis bill addresses. it punishes institutions that provide the means for the player to play for real money, theres no wording in this that is geared towards the player. The laws against the player playing have long been on the books, just never enforced. This bill appears to make it damn hard to have the means to play online, which will effectively kill the profitability of the games. The providers are also shutitng down accounts as to not have legal action brought against them, further making it difficult (but not impossible) for the us player to stil play as long or as much as they want.[quote]

well the thing is that the ease of play is what made online beautiful.

anyone could walk up and start in minutes.

you go to a b&m casino and ask around the table, probably half of the players started by playing online. (some tables, like lower limit no limit holdem, it could be up to 90% per table)

it drew so many more players to the game and thats a beautiful thing.

in turn, it drew players to move to live games also, its much more exciting. places like atlantic city have card rooms sprouting up everywhere. borgata opened up their new room, with over 180 tables (largest in the world IIRC). casinos that catered to even the older crowds have been opening poker rooms, such as the showboat or harrahs. the boom has indeed spread to the live game, and is also shown by the propensitiy of home raked games and clubs being more busy than ever before.

hell, there are clubs all over raleigh, durham, and any city these days.

larger cities have some very well run clubs that are all illegal, but cater to what the people want ot do, so theres a market.

the problem is, only a small percentage of the casual online palyer is going to seek out an underground club to go (probably) get reamed at by some seriously sick rounders.

interest fades, fewer planned trips to travel all the way to atlantic city, vegas, tunica or bilouxi.

all these rooms cant sustain not having business, and will shrink.

in time.

as ive mentioned before, that was always one of the draws to the game, was that anyone could do it. you could watch on tv or whatever, then decide that you were good enough, and follow through with it.

you cant decide at 35 to play in the nba to get on tv and make a shitton of money. you had that chance with poker.

The bill doesn't have anything to do with playing poker or the poker sites online or gambling sites. It is only going after American Banks and financial institutions. As long as you can find some way to get your money on the sites, and they stay open to US players, you will be fine.
