here is the thing about this....this fence will not solve the problem...its a good start....but ALOT more needs to be done.

1) employers who hire illegals need to be thrown in jail...sure thats extreme..but if that happens 3-4 times...it wont be a problem anymore

2) anyone who is found to be here illegally needs to be deported immediately...if it splits up families, thats tough....you knew that might happen when you came here illegally...and at least your kids are legal residents...that should be some comfort...

3) a wall DOES need to be built and it needs to be gaurded...no one likes the thought of that...but it WILL be effective in keeping illegals out...

You see how it works. It shows how easily the topic is switched.

People are getting all worked up about illegal immigration, and the righous indignation flares. But, this post is not about illegal immigration, which is has a complex array of causes and solutions.

This post is supposed to be about the fence, which is a symbolic, simplistic, election time smoke screen to try and hide that fact that nobody has done anything serious about illegal imigration in 6 years.

Set up U.S. Army weapons qualification ranges on the border. You get moving targets coming at you. Just like in war. Plus, you're defending your country....

Seriously, the majority of illegals are here to better themselves and be good citizens. IMO, the solution is to allow VASTLY more people to come and stay here and to have a probationary period during which they must show they are productive members of society. If they are arrested for any non-minor crime or in some way show uselessness during the probationary period, they are either deported or sentenced to a VERY lengthy prison sentence.
