Everyone wants to blame Amato for predictable play calling, but I blame Evans for being too risky. I liked it a lot more when he just ran the ball when he didn't know what to do. At least he doesn't fumble though, and I think he's better than Stone.

I can't speak for the losses to Maryland and Virginia. I was however on hand for the loss to Tech, so just to be clear... all comments pertain to this last game.

Evidence AGAINST Evans:
Evans badly "missed" ~ten throws during the game. He definitely mis-timed ~3 timing routes to the outside, and had at least 3 balls sail way too high. The rest were underthrows that smoe would argue were due to pressure. For the sake of argument I'll say he should have done a little better on those passes in particular.

Evidence FOR Evans: This I'll have to number...

A Lack of rushing offense killed NCSU til the very end. Tech owned NCSU at the line of scrimmage, and without a running game you can't open up the passing game. A veteran may take responsibility for not passing well enough to open up the run, but it's assinine to blame a redshirt sophmore for not lighting it up against the #20 team in the nation. Evans passed FIFTY THREE times that night. Every now and then a great QB in the making comes along (ala Rivers) who can handle that kind of load. Evans isn't that guy.

The key stat, which has been raised several times, is ZERO INTs. Evans didn't win the game, but he surely didn't lose it either. I continue to be impressed by Evan's decision making despite how many bad passes thrown in the Tech game. Lets face it, the fact that Tech held NCSU without an offensive TD was no fault of Evans. We had no run game, and thus no consistency. You can't sustain long drives that way AND it makes it that much harder to punch it in in the red zone.


Why did we lose this game? We lost b/c Tech won the battle at the line of scrimmage. Evans, instead of playing the supporting role of passing efficiently off a solid running atack (like Roethisberger and the Steelers), was forced to put the offense on his back. He clearly isn't ready for that. Is this acceptable? Yes, considering it's his first real season. Should we expect more of him as his career progresses? Absolutely.

I think Evans can be a solid QB. He's close, but he got a little antsy in the pocket and missed too many throws badly Saturday night. The bottom line though is that everybody has an off night, especially rookies. This is the primary difference between Evans and Earl's lover boy Stone. Stone showed absolutely no progress and was rightly benched. If Evan's does the same, bench his sorry ass too.


Here's a thought provoking question - Why would anyone ride Evans when he was the only productive force on offense all game? I mean shit, he made Stone look good

He diddn't lose it, but he diddn't do ANYTHING either. The offense shouldn't have been on the field. They scored zero touchdowns. 1 td in the last two games is not good productivity on behalf of the offense. Evans is not scoring or converting for us. They are basically turning the ball over via punt (3&outs) there is no difference.

You like facts? Ok, FACT - NC State had FIFTY EIGHT rushing yards. There is a distinct difference between didn't run the ball and can't run the ball. It didn't matter who ran it, Tech held our running game to 2.8 yds/rush. Evans kept throwing b/c qute frankly there wasn't anything else to do. That makes the lack of an interception all the more relevant, b/c Tech was able to drop back into coverage. And, if I'm not mistaken, he had the longest rush on a scramble.

How about more facts? FACT - Marcus Stone had the luxary of playing with the number 1 ranked defense in the nation. NC State won those games. Stone participated, but you'll be hard pressed to provide ONE instance where Stone deserves credit for WINNING a game for NC State. Evans on the other hand can and should be credited with engineering two 4th quarter combacks against ranked teams. That would be two more than Stone btw...

And yeah, Stone sure did win our bowl game by going 9/19 for 127 yards and one score. Magnificent stats really...


Stone at QB = no passing attack. Did you watch last season? The passing game was a joke. We lived and died on the run. State ran the ball well late in the season and won, period. Anytime we faced a real opponent he folded like a deck of cards.

Find me one game where Stone made the difference between winning and losing. ONE.

I think you skipped the attemps category. You would see that our attemps were almost or below 15. That's not tryin to run the ball, thats giving up on the run. If we actually tried to run the ball that game, we would have had something like 20-25 rush attempts.

- Attempting to kick a 49 yard field goal on 4th and 5

- 2nd and 15 = Run up the middle which didn't work all night
