the US is not a police state at all

"The sheriff of [Jefferson Parish] is the closest thing there is to being a king in the U.S. I have no unions, I don't have civil service, I hire and fire at will. I don't have to go to council and propose a budget. I approve the budget. I'm the head of the law-enforcement district, and the law-enforcement district only has one vote, which is me,"

Just because we have the highest incarceration rate in the world doesn't mean we're a police state.

the articles said no guns were confiscated, because they weren't listed in the warrants. both WRAL and the wilmington star reported that 3 longarms were found in Peyton's room, but not anywhere near the boys during the time of the raid. they can't just go in and confiscate things unless they believe they were illegal or used in a crime and stated on the warrant.

one article i read said no guns found. you may be right but where are you reading that?

and i hope you arent implying that owning a long gun warrants calling a fucking swat team.

the whole point of me saying that was to rebut halfwit's argument that I was full of shit. most of what he has posted has been pure bullshit coming from someone that hates cops first and has a bleeding heart second. I already mentioned that there is nothing wrong with owning firearms on the first page, but that they would have been mentioned in the warrant had the armed robbery been at gunpoint and not a beatdown. since that wasn't the case, the cops couldn't confiscate them.

I can't believe 24 hours later

"oops, we made a mistake, you're free to go now"

if I had "accidentally shot" someone through a door , I'd be in jail

he needs to be treated like a civilian in a situation where he took someones life because of carelessness

matter of fact, LEOs should be held to a higher responsibility than that

I'm not even trying to hate on police, but shit like what happened down there bothers me and makes me wonder how many other ones there are like that

Exactly, they should be held to a higher standard than civilians because they've been given more power.

I also just want to assert once again... Had they used tazers, neither peyton nor the dog would be dead right now. Also, if cops faced harsh punishments for shit like this I think they'd take tasers into serious consideration for situations like this.

I think a police officer needs to be willing to risk their life to prevent the loss of innocent life. Seems like there was some sort of saying.... "Serve and protect" maybe? Sometimes that means waiting long enough to verify if a subject is a threat, rather than just worrying about your own ass and filling them full of lead. If someone isn't willing to take that risk, they should probably reconsider becoming a police officer IMO.

yeah, I agree

law enforcement isn't what it used to be

^
they had already crashed the door in "supposedly"

plus people would just bitch about cops using tasers

"well, why didn't you just fistfight with the suspect instead of tasering him, waaah waaah"

**I'm all for using non lethal weapons to prevent things from escalating**

i think tazers for the swat team would be a horrible idea. if he had been a real threat and actually was shooting at them tazers wouldnt have done shit.

the problem was using such excessive force

I think it's a load of bull. The claim is that they went to knock the door down and when the battering ram hit the door, there was a loud pop. Cop thought it was a gunshot and fired. Of course there's gonna be a pop when you hit a fucking door.

^^ Well, not necessarily for a swat team, but this situation didn't require a swat team.

That "wrong checked box" shit sounds like some "hanging chad" bs.

Does anyone really think a second-degree murder charge would really stick? It sounds a lot more like a manslaughter case to me, although my knowledge in this area is pretty limited. Any chance the cop will be charged with something else?

HAHAHAHA

They are saying that they marked the wrong box....

They meant to check that they disagreed with the charges, but they actually checked the box that said charge him.

I guess this grand jury is from Miami-Dade County Florida.

and then they got away with it...

Quote :
"RALEIGH, North Carolina (AP) -- Officials dismissed a murder charge Tuesday against a sheriff's deputy accused of shooting and killing an unarmed teenager who authorities believed had stolen video game consoles.

A grand jury foreman said he had checked the wrong box on the indictment paperwork, triggering the dismissal."

How 'lucky' for the officer...
