Even on what?

Are you so deluded to think something unfair went down in this fine UVA game?

wtf are you talking about. they showed very clearly there was exactly 1.0 second left

well then wouldn't it have been uva's ball anyway, since mcclure was dicking around and lost it?fff

Yeah, but folks like Aristotle think Duke could make a steal and a shot for the win with .0000000000000000001 seconds left.

nah reynolds knocked it from mcclure and it bounced out and then rolled and a coach picked it up on the bench as the horn sounded. from that horn i deducted that the ball had been out at least 1 second maybe almost 2. After all the clemson stuff the refs were probably scared to dare add the right ammount of time because if duke somehow scored it would be their fault for winning the game.

this was like the acc taking their time back from the clemson game.

I'm not bitching and am not going to do what you guys did and say it "directly changed the game" or some shit because thats not why duke lost. It was simply a clock error and i'm pointing it out to show you that it happens alot and anybody can be on either side of it.

would you feel better if you had lost to clemson and beat virginia?

cause either way you went 1-1 in those 2 games

deal with the questionable officiating that all the non duke and non unc schools have to deal with every game

^^At that point in the game, if the refs had added 3+ seconds to the clock and that extra time allowed Virginia to win it in regulation, you'd be able to compare this game to the other Duke game.

As it is, shut the fuck up.

^^His comparison isn't even valid.

It woulda been Virginia ball and since the refs didn't add a bunch of time to the clock, this game is the complete opposite of the last one.

Aristotle, Duke got lucky in that last game. Don't feel guilty about it. It happens a lot for your team. Just accept it and enjoy the wins.

just dvred it was .9 when it hit out for sure. im just gonna assume it didnt hit anything else out of bounds before it hit that for sure and say it was .9 left.

^well that would have been robbery if uva got the ball considering uva knocked the ball out

^Were we watching the same game? Nelson lost it, and Duke was obviously the last one to touch it.

Trust me, if it was going to be Duke ball, Coach K woulda been demanding more time.

Think.

Now...am I going crazy about the end of this game or what?

duke lost fair and square. at first i thought there was time when the ball went out, but when they showed the aerial view...the ball was bouncing when time expired.

virginia made a great comeback and duke didn't finish it, that's the bottom line. i'm a duke fan, but you have to close the games...they were lucky to get such a great look at the end, but paulus couldn't knock it down.

it is VERY, VERY clear that a team with TWO GREAT GUARDS gives duke an extremely tough time. mcclure saved the game previously with a great block, but singletary and reynolds are too fast for paulus, nelson and mcclure.

next year duke will have a quick defensive guard in nolan smith that will help out in this area, until then...very quick, athletic teams are capable of beating duke any night. that's why they play the game.

Is there a reason the clock stops after made shots in the last minute? Is it just for the sake of making the end of the game more exciting? It just makes no sense for it to stop in the last minute and not for the rest of the game.

" Clemson may get extra time from NCAA committee

The timing error from Clemson’s 68-66 loss on Jan. 25 at Duke will be taken into consideration by the Division I men’s basketball committee during the NCAA tournament selection process.

“It becomes one of many factors that would be discussed at that point in time that Clemson is brought up for discussion,” Craig Littlepage, the committee chair, said Wednesday.

Replays of the game showed that officials failed to promptly start the clock when Clemson’s Vernon Hamilton stole a Josh McRoberts pass. ESPN’s video analysis estimated that 2.4 seconds should have been put on the clock after Hamilton’s tying 3-pointers.

Instead, Duke had 4.4 seconds - just enough time for Jon Scheyer to set up Dave McClure for a winning lay-in at the buzzer. ACC officiating coordinator John Clougherty later acknowledged that a timing error had occurred.

Littlepage, the Virginia athletics director, said there’s no way to tell whether Duke could have set up a play to win in 2.4 seconds, or whether Clemson would have won if the game went to overtime.

“We just don’t know what would have happened,” he said.

But when Clemson is discussed by the selection committee, the circumstances of what could have been a win over a top-10 team on the road will be brought to everyone’s attention. -- Ken Tysiac "

^^^^Stopping the clock after baskets for the whole game would be a tedious process, and really doesn't make much of a difference as it does in the last minute of the game.

One of the reasons I would continue to stop the clock after baskets at the end of games is because of the way kids from all schools refuse to take the half second to pick up a loose ball and hand it to a ref. It really is annoying when players act like they don't even see the ball right next to their foot and let 5 or ten seconds roll off the clock so a ref can run over and get the ball.

^Good point...if one team scores but the other has the lead with say 42 seconds left, the time from the ball being handed to the player and the 5 seconds he gets could allow them to get the clock down to 35 so the team thats behind has to foul, making the shot clock useless. I see why its needed in this situation plus the whole making the game much more interesting, but its still odd...kinda like how a quarterback can take a knee in the NFL and the play be considered dead even though a play isnt dead until a player is down by contact.

Cause players would "accidentally" knock the ball away in the last minute, and it would be a controversial call for the refs to have to decide if it was intentional or not. I guess we could have ball boys that are always there with a fresh ball, but then you're counting on them. There's enough potential for human error in the game...no need to invite more. So we stop the clock. Stopping the clock also kinda lets us see the teams compete in a different sort of game.

^^I actually don't like it when a player picks up the ball and hands it to the ref. It's the refs job to pick up the ball, and it lets them control the in-bounds ritual a bit more.

^ Really?? Even when it is really obvious that the player is purposefully avoiding the ball to kill time and/or be a dick? Maybe it is only a pet peeve of mine.
