1. If you knew anything about the subject, you would've known what I was talking about. The goal of the Arabic-focused aspect of the school is to teach language, not indoctrinate. Also, if you knew anything about the subject, you'd know that immersion explicitly requires that only one language be taught to a population of students.

2. The article didn't say anything about it, no. That's where this whole "knowing something about the subject you're debating" thing comes into play.

My frame of reference is learning foreign languages and some foreign cultures in school myself. Did you attend an immersion school? What is your frame of reference, a few web articles? I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that this school is more or less congruent with the countless other immersion schools in the country. I also don't think it's unreasonable to assume that a NY public school will have to comply with the basic standards of education of that state. We also know something about the concept of an immersion school. None of that is special knowledge, it's pretty common sense.

Why build science magnet schools when regular schools teach science? Why build arts magnet schools when regular schools teach art?

And I can fully believe that NY is doing this for the purposes of aiding the political/military systems in the future. The NCSSM got its charter in the Kennedy days of the space race. I would bet the idea for this school is fully supported by the military. You can teach people a language, and have a few culture classes, but this doesn't really compare to an institution that focuses on this.

it is worth noting that there are several federal programs through depts. of education, state, and defense that fund classes in public schools on foreign languages of interest. Specifically, DoD funded classes at NC State in arabic and persian just a few years ago .. don't know if they still do - if not, it's for lack of interest, and i know they are funding these classes at UNC and Duke.
