only way i can think of that the waiter in the original post is (somewhat) in the right..

if the CC receipt said "on table" or "cash" where the tip section on the cc receipt is.

^UH did you read my post, dumbass. and i'm a bartender.

SI people tend to tip better. I've gotten anywhere from 3-100 bucks on ONE drink before. so it all depends on the person you're serving.

it's not YOUR fault i bartend, just like it's not MY fault there are many cheap fucks like you that go out.

if the service is acceptable or above average I tip 20% + round up. I always leave the same denomination on my bills, because I've been fucked multiple times at bars by people throwing on an extra 4-5 bucks on my tabs.

If the service is really good, or the wait staff made me laugh and or otherwise entertained me, 25-40% is not uncommon.

If they sucked, were obnoxious, fucked up repeatedly, et al, I leave them a fucking quarter.

I completely agree with people, if you are too damn poor to afford the WHOLE bill, dont go out

so we're supposed to dick our establishment over for our tips? That makes sense.

i am a dumbass??? the "you" in my post was a general you, and not directed at YOU specifically. after all, you are the one who said:

just like you used the "you", so did i, DUMBASS. what should i say to that... I AM NOT MAKING 2.50 i understood that was a general you, and you should have understood that mine was too.

jesus, you have a gem of a brain, don't you???

This shit used to piss me the fuck off when I waited tables. Sometimes if a table was cool, I would hook them up with free drinks etc. One time I got a table like $15 in free shit and they left me $5. FUCK YOU!

Nope, my husband said that he just drew a line through the spot where you write how much the tip should be on the CC slip and then wrote how much our bill was on the "total" line.

On another note, I usually leave 15% if the service I receive is normal (the server didn't go out of his/her way to be friendly, but was nice, usually kept our drinks filled, got the food out properly, wasn't standing around talking to other servers, etc). I will leave 20-25% if the server was exceptional (really friendly and conversational, never let our glasses come close to empty, checked on us frequently, did anything possible to make sure our dinner was wonderful). Once I left a 50% tip when our waitress was just completely awesome and made our night.

I think there has only been one time that I intentionally didn't leave a tip. The waitress we had was incredibly rude, messed up our order (she wrote it down wrong--manager said so), didn't bother bringing us our rolls at the beginning, didn't fill our drinks once (the manager actually ended up bringing us our food and drinks), and stood and talked to someone where I could see her the entire time we were eating. She only had two tables and it wasn't busy, so I know she wasn't doing her job correctly.

I'm not saying I won't tip well if you don't, but for example I went out last night and my old boss voided everything except the bottle of wine, making it $14 each for me and my friend. We both tipped $6 each.

lets change gears a little,
Since the tip is affected by what happens before you sit down,

Reservations,

1) If you call 1 hour before you want to be seated that is not a reservation, it's call-a-head seating and we don't do that
2) If you call at 5pm on Febuary 14th, I assure you all the tables are taken, no there's nothing we can do, have fun, i hope you can cook,
3) yes I do know who you are, and it will still be a hour wait for a table, you pulled this same thing a month ago, Hi Mr. xxx I was your server and is this Mrs xxx, i suppose, because the young lady you were with last month.........
4) "Is our table ready yet?" Well...we told you it would be an hour, it has been twenty mins...so...no

These are some observations I have had, while working as a host, from what people have posted about tipping this could be funny. Common sense people thats all we need

theres a diff between us being cheap and you expecting too much for what your job entails.

for example-
always tipping 10% is cheap
waiters expecting 20% normally is just dumb on their part (as is bartenders wanting a buck or more a drink)

i ate at a pizza inn a while back (you take the bill up to the register to pay), and left the tip in cash on the table. so i take the bill up to pay, put a dash in the tip spot, then write the total. the guy ringing me up, who happens to be the manager, says "nice tip"...i said "it's on the table jackass". he doesn't apologize and we leave.

i would not tolerate this from a teenager working the register but would not be as surprised...but from the manager? jesus christ i was so pissed

it was the manager's fault, not the chick waiting on us. she picked up her cash as soon as we left the table.

and yes, that would be the PIZZA INN in rocky mount, just so we're clear here.

in regards to the very first post, the waiter was incredibly rude. If you don't get a tip...oh well. I'm a waitress, and have been a hostess before as well, both for average restaurants. I've had people stiff me (where I have to pay their tab) and one guy even tipped me 40 on a 30 tab (which i was surprised by but I assumed he was trying to impress his date), then came back 2 hours later and asked for the tip back.

Some waiters have good days and bad days, but there's no excuse to go chasing down a customer imo unless they're walking out on a tab.

damn you people always wanting freaking bread/chips/whatever. you get one serving with your meal, not 20 baskets of chips. that's why mexican places start charging you for more.
on topic:
i've chased someone out who took the credit card receipt (the copy you sign) because i'm responsible if i can't prove you paid that amount. but the guy in the first post shouldn't have done that. if you remember his name, go back and talk to a manager about it. chances are he's done that to other people too.

if i ask for more bread or chips, it's because i want more bread or chips. if you want to charge me for it, fine, but you better bring me some more fucking bread.

why is that hard to understand?

I just hate it when ppl demand bread as soon as the waiter/waitress approaches them . . that pisses me off.

but I dont think asking for more is a problem at all

wow thats fucked up.

but you know, i'm not surprised though. it's PIZZA INN for gods sake, about the nastiest pizza place ever. at least the ones in raleigh were. i can only imagine that R.M. is as bad or worse, being the shithole that it is.

still, I'da been like "yeah, what's your name asshole? and what's your district manager's name?" and i would be lookin peeps up in their corporate HQ directory too.

Yeah, I never demand it. However, if I look around me and see all the other waiters/waitresses bringing rolls/chips/whatever to all the other tables around me, I want the same done for my table. When it doesn't happen, yes, it definitely affects the tip.

a group of friends and i were leaving waraji and our waitress came out and asked why she didn't recieve a tip. it's not that the whole table didn't leave a tip, just one group (two people).

we told her the truth, that her service and communication were terrible and that sushi shouldn't take an hour to come out.

waraji's manager didn't seem to care all that much.

that's sad that one of my fav. sushi places is off limits now.

sushi thai it is.

I should start tipping 10% and telling the server I'll send the rest to the IRS, since they wont.

I know that there aren't a lot of servers that report their tips like they're supposed to. I always tried hard to though...

one guy at work today picked up a book and said "i'll be right back with your change ma'am"
she said: "keep the change, it's 2 pennies"
its alright if you didn't like their service, but don't be a bitch about it.
^^ that would be so funny. i think i'd laugh if someone said that to me.
